  1. Hi Shaz Areas of concern - Reading. phonics. Spelling, keywords,Handwriting, pencil control/letterformation Maths Number. Targets:- Be able to spell 5 keywords correctly Be able to read 10 new keywords be able to form letters correctly when writing Everything you said above is exactly the same as my k the except the last two things as he is on medication for his adhd which seems tp take the edge off it abit. On the assesment from the OT she said that he was below average for everything, yet he hasnt got a ILP either which i would if thought they would of started doing because of this, however they are waiting for a place for him in the learning support unit in another school as they feel he would benefit this more. With k its the opposite way round to your keiran i think i've told you before he has ADHD but is waiting to be assessed for AS. I find this hard to get through to the school as they say that he needs to try harder and thats the only feedback i usually get from them. Yet in the next breath they say that they feel its his communication thats the problem he cant understand them and vice versa (never) They also stopped him staying for lunch, as they said his behaviour was too disruptive and when he learned what was acceptable they would think about letting him return. THEY HAVE NOT GOT A CLUE!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Hi Mel Its just my k took had seizures for a while not constant maybe a few months apart thankfully he hjas,nt had any for approx 2yrs now, but his were actual fits were he would jerk, clasp his teeth together each time he would stay in the fit longer, the longest being 45 mins(which was the last) this was also the time he wet himself. I was told its not the actual seizure that does any damage its the amount of time they are in it as there is not enough oxygen getting to the brain. Just wondered if this could be linked that was all
  3. Hi again Just me, could anyone tell me has any of your children ever suffered from seizures at all????? I was just wondering if this is common in kids with asd???
  4. Hi At the risk of sounding stupid Can someone tell me what this means when you say they are over formal when they speak?????/
  5. Hi Just wanted to ask, before i say anything else i just want to say i do not in anyway blame the children, but is it true that parents of children with an asd are more likely to suffer from depression?????
  6. Hi all Just wanted to ask your opinion on something. Went to school the other day and stood for half an hour talking to k's head teacher, after discussing quite a few things (sorry me telling her a few things and her not really listening as usual), i said that i was concerned that k was alone in the playground and that i felt they should be making more of an effort to get him involved more or at least give him the opportunity to, as it was the only interaction he really had with other kids (hes spends all his time in his room at home). She suggested that she would speak to the home link worker and see if she could get him some time at the out reach centre but this time with other kids as the last time he went it was just one on one, (or should i say k playing her watching, i dont think he had much interest in her really). The only thing is she said maybe after school this time, and last time it was only for a few weeks and when it started i had a right carry on and even worse when it ended. I tryed explaining this to her but she was insistant that it was a good idea. I have tryed explaining to her a few times that i think k has ASD but she looks at me with a blank expression, you would think that she would of at least looked at it to get some idea of what i am talking about like i've said before i think its a case of basically we dont have time for this take him somewhere else!!!!! Dos anyone else think this is a good idea should i let him go?????
  7. Hi aro When k had his assesment it involved the educational psychologist, myself and k in a room and he was asked to perform different tasks namely: Stand on one leg Skip round the room Catch a ball Draw different shapes or copy them She also built some blocks up and asked him to use the ones that were left to copy what she had done. He was also observed in the classroom for e few hours. Its basically an assesment of there abilitys, eg fine/large motor skills, level of maturity, there understanding of speech and language, how they interacts with others. From what i understand its basically to outline what particular areas they need specific help in. Hope this helps. Claire
  8. Hi all Yes definately don't i know it waiting for a date coming through (Implement behavioural stratergies) Do they not think i havent already tried? its not as black and white as it seems!!!!!!
  9. Hi LouLou My k tells me all the time, although i dont think he knows what it means, i think its just his gran used to say it all the time and when she sais it she would say to him now you have to say love you too. Would love to think he knew what it meant though
  10. Hi all Just wanted to ask if this is the assesment i need to get a diagnosis? Took k to see his specialist last week and she due to the griffiths assesment carried out last year on k which showed delay across all areas of his functioning (plus all other assesments ). She felt that it would be helpful to carry out a full cognitive assesment. Is this the assesment depending on the outcome where i may get a diagnosis? If its not which one is it he needs?
  11. Thanks loupin Its not the labelling im bothered about its not getting it and him not receiving the help he needs. Its all taking to long its been going on for approx 2 and half years now. The school dont keeo me properly informed or anything, as far as i can gather from the discussion i had with his head teacher the other day, they are determined to send him to another school for the mornings and back to theres on an afternoon. Everytime i asked about something or tried to tell her something all she kept saying was when he gets to this school which she is 99% sure he will get a place he will be able to get all the assesments i want done there. From that response all they seem to be saying is we cant help or wont so send him to someone who can be bothered
  12. Hi Just wanted to ask, What determines a diagnosis is it the length of time they have showed behaviours? How many signs/symptoms they have ? The type of symptoms they have? I asked k's doctor a while ago what they would look for and i was told that all are different, however she also said that some kids have ADHD and alot of the signs of an asd but dont get the label and because they dont get the label people assume there is nothing wrong with them so they dont recieve the help that they need. Has anyone come across this? How can they justifiy this it is ridiculous to think that unless you are labelled you cant have help!!!!!!!
  13. Hi Everyone Well shopping went okay he didnt take his music, i could only find 2 songs what he liked to download and by the time we went he didnt want to listen to them anymore. However because it was late when we got there, was hardly no-one in the supermarket which made it alot easier for him, he did still run around and make his noises and stuff, although it wasnt as bad as the last time he came with me.
  14. Hi All I was asked by the OT to fill in a sensory profile on k awhile ago now, yet i still havent heard anything back, has anyone else done one?? Do they tell you the outcome of it or is it just for there reference?
  15. sorry to sound so silly but what is PECS?????
  16. hi Thanks for that i have just had a look they look great, i think ill order one too like you said you have to try
  17. Hi all Have to go shopping today and take k with me which i usually try to avoid, however trying to find things out from him is harder except yesterday he asked "why were we not going shopping?" anyway i explained i was going today instead and that he would be coming (usually i follow it up at this point with something like we have to get them nice biscuits you like) but he just said will you tell them not to shout , at the trolley" I think he means when hes walking beside the trolley or thats what hes meant to be doing anyway then i asked who shouts and as usual he said i dont know i think he means he doesnt like the noise of everyone in the supermarket talking. K will sing along forever to the songs in the car do you think if i gave him some music to listen to on a walkman while we walked around he might like that better??????
  18. Joining this forum was one of the best things i have done, the advice i have been given has been great This morning as usual k was walking round and round the sofa waving his arms, repeating things hes heard from his films and computer games, jumping on sofa, walking up to things eg the lamp, the unit, curtains, tv, anything and everything basically saying something to them for a few seconds then waving his hands around again while making his swooshing noise that he usually does. Usually this really gets at me and im forever saying to him sit down and watch tv k, and try and be quite, only today instead i let him carry on and just watched him, although i dont know why he was doin it and still dont understand for some reason it didnt get to me in fact i found it quite interesting to watch. Isnt it funny how if you look at something from a different angle how you, somehow find something that really does get at you most of the time isn't that bad after all.
  19. You just click on the link it starts automatically or it did for me!!!!
  20. HI brook That was really interesting my k does it quite alot, inthe car while in his room, if we go to someones house even when hes eating whilst waving his fork around, at the risk of sounding silly i could swear hes having a conversation with the dog sometimes dont hear her answer him back though
  21. K had an OT go out to school to see him and i also had to fill in a sensory questionnaire, dont know whats happened with that though? Im sure ill find out in 6mth or so
