  1. Hi there my sister-in-law gets DLA higher rate personal care and lower rate mobility, as far as im aware you have to fill out an adult DLA form, L also gets income support im not sure what age you apply for that L is 27 and her money gets paid direct into her dads account or she would have no money he gives her pocket money to use week to week. Hope this helps Lizzie x x
  2. Thanks Kathryn i have not seen my Gp for ges only seen the midwife due to a good pregnancy luckily touch wood, so i did not think of that, all i can hope for is that when ss come out yet again to see us as on this occasion i have told them as of May i can no longer provide care they will lookm at the other areas i.e when i first got pregnant L took it very badly no help in any areas in the end i went to her GP and told him unless he helped id throw my self off a bridge sorry but id had enough he sent us to the mental heath department no for me actually but for L after talking to a physcologist we were sent away with some tablets which has worked wonders he then refered L for a re-assesment at an adult assesment unit which we are currently undergoing now so....................... hopefully this will go for us you never know?? I actually asked ss back in Oct when L became a handful what was there for me they said nothing ? So i said what happens if i throw her out??? Oh well put her in a hostel, they are not stupid they know i wouldnt ever see L like that hung up in a hostel with druggies they use it to their advantage. Anyway thanks ill see how we go Love Lizzie x x
  3. Hi guys im disgusted im 30 weeks pregnant and in a difficult situation and i might have to bring the MP into our situation and even a solicitor this is ridiculous i cant believe theres no help out there and im shocked that people like yourselves have been through all this stress what a mess. I fought the system 2 yrs ago when my mother-in-law passed L 's full time carer i had to get her from low rate DLA to high for personal care as i knew her needs were that greater than a low DLA recepient and social services i delt with then. In the end with advice on this website i went to my local MP god dont they shift their butts then??!!! But y should it come to this????? I was appauled of what a social services worker told me when i first got pregnant and i asked for help then you know respite take a break that sort of thing im still waiting because she doesnt meet the criteria she has the wrong disability, i thought i mis-understood the woman how on earth can you have the wrong disability??? Well she said if your sister-in -law was born with say downs syndrome she would meet our criteria? HOW WHAT Y I ASKED???? Because down syndrome is a learning disability L shows by our records the assessment we did she has not got a learning disability however if you are born with Down syndrome you automatically have a learning disability??!!! Born with aspergers doesnt automatically qualify you for having a learning disability. By then i was so upset with this woamn i gave up. What more can i say?? Thankyou everyone for your help Love Lizzie x x
  4. Hi everybody Sorry I have not written in a while I have been really busy. Hope you can help with dilemma. I currently for my 27 year old sister in law who suffers from aspergers syndrome. I started looking after her in March 2005 after her mother suddenly passed away. Her farther is unable to look after her due to working away from home. Her Brother (My Husband) also works long hours. I have reached a problem due to me now being pregnant and due very soon and i feel I can no longer care for her and the new born baby. The family network is very poor so I don't know where to turn, Since getting pregnant L has found it very hard she is currently under a phycologist and under medication I am also currently getting her re-assessed as she was last assessed at 14. She lives we me during the week and with her farther at weekends. She attends a college course Mon,Wed and Thursday so primarily care is needed evening nightimes and some days. Social services are as much use as a Chocolate teapot as L does not meet their criteria as she has a learning difficulty not a disability even though she is on the higher rate care and lower rate mobility though he DLA. All the parents fighting for DLA for there children now, What happens when they get older are they expected to live at home and who cares for them ?? L can live at her family home during the week but not alone she cannot cross a road, boil a kettle alone so who is expected to help her ??? Can we get in a private carer and if this is so who pays them >?? Yes ok her benefits will but will this cover someone for 5 days a week and up to 75 hours per week. Look forward to hearing from anybody with ideas Lizzie
  5. Thanks guys i think its so hard you fight the system all the way throught the years it never stops , i just feel that we are expected to provide care forever without help. I think its important that all parents fighting the system for DLA and statementing should be aware that even in their teens and in adulthood we as family are expected to provide accomodation, care its silly ? Someone once told me that if a dependant person has a family member who will help provide care ss turn their backs which i think is true. Lizzie x xx

  9. Hi there i currently look after my sister-in-law whom is at college as she is 26 and unfortunatly the problem stays with them as they get older i have been into college so many times since the start of term they know me so well i do feel though she is not getting the right tuition, the others are behind her in class i feel the problem lies with the school collages etc as they do not understand the extent of Aspergers or autism thus making them feel unsecure at school/college and feeling misunderstood. Maybe seek out how much your childs teacher knows about his condition this way she can make him feel more comfortable at school and not saying hes ill? Hope this helps Lizzie x x x x x
  10. Hi there everyone hopeing you can help as you did with my sister-in-law whom has Aspergers syndrome, im writing on behalf of my friend Tiny who again is also a member on here for her younger son with ADHD. Maybe i should start from the beginning just two weeks her husband died suddenly at the age of 45 now she is left with two children with disabilities im hopeing someone can tell us where to turn her younger son is on middle rate care and lower mobility. But i am convinced that her older son should be eligable for benefits too am i right? He suffers from ADD and has been diagnosed through the doctor and is 15 years old he currenlty is on anti-depressants Fluxotine (spelt wrong sorry) and other medication im not sure of the names sorry and sees an Anger managment therapist surely he can get DLA? Or am i wasting my time getting her the forms? Can you also tell me what she is entitled to am i right in thinking she can get Berevement payment, and widowed parents allowance depending on her husbands national insurance contributions? Is there anything ive missed she cannot get carers allowance as she works but if she gives up work for the boys will she get two lots of carers allowance if her 15 year old is diagnosed? Please any suggestions or comments please help? Thanks for reading Lizzie x x x
  11. Hi there i hate to tell you this but this problem goes on well into their twenties my sister-in-law who has Aspbergers is constantly going im coming to the stage where i am constantly asking her why? its so many times a day its unbelievable and it s like shes in a routine for it i have tried many solutions talking about it explaining about it but it seems to be all i do. The worst is obviously when its the time of the month as its more times a day then, ive come to the conclusion that i am going to take her to the doctors and ask them to have a chat with her if this behavior continues ive even though t to myself shed be better with a wee bag that way its connected to her and she can go whenever. No honestly i think its a case of just letting them get on with it i cant think of a solution just thought i would let you know you are not alone. Good luck and Take care

Thanks guys and clair for filling in for me when i was away on holiday ahhhhhhhhhhhhh the Turkish sun ahhhhhhhhh but im back now to reality at that ,with more paper work than ever ( ps if anyone has a Social worker ask them about a company called take a break they will take people with disabilites out for 2 hrs a week to give the carers a break) i appealed the disision as Clair said if you do guys try and get the Mp involved that is what we had to do to get a good response. 20. Hi eveyone thankyou very much for your replies, we are just so woried about appealing incase the low rate she already gets, is also taken away from her, all we want is the middle rate as if im right in thinking you can then get carers allowance which would help me then, good luck Helen filling in those damn forms again, best advice i have for this is speak to a friend who has recently been awarded the middle rate or higher rate as they will know what to put down, or go along to Citizens Advice Bureau they will also help, ive been told to go to CAB with help for my appeal forms is there anyone else who knows of any other organisations to help- with this? thanks guys Lizzie x x x
  21. Hi everyone just wondered if anyone out there has put in an appeal against a decicion for DLA recently, my sister-in-law is currently on the low rate but we appealed when her mum sadly died at the beginning of April as she has unfortunatley regressed, and things are more difficult however we filled in the forms in a big way giving lots of details/information and unfortunatly we have been refused which also puts a dampening on the carers allowance aspect, i just wondered if anyone out there has appealed before and can tell me what to expect. Thanks Lizzie
