kirstie Report post Posted October 27, 2006 Ophelia, Lovely name by the way, my son is in a language unit attached to a primary school. I'm so delighted i sent him there as it has done him the world of good. He is far happier more confident and the change in him is amazing. He is also accessing the carriculum and doing verty well. He joins the mainstream primary 2 class every day for maths and reading/phonics and sometimes for lunch and breaktime and maybe the odd other class ie- P.E. bit by bit he is being integrated and it is suiting him very well, however his review is next week and i think they might want to kick him out and into mainstream full time, not if i can help it they won't, anyway thats another story just wanted to share my experience with you. Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Kathrynh Report post Posted October 27, 2006 Good luck. My son is in a unit attached to a main stream primary and I was really relieved when he got the place because I think its the best of both worlds. He has access to the necessary specialists and excellent staff pupil ratio plus he gets the opportunity to mix with NT children and learn from them. dippydawn Report post Posted October 27, 2006 Always trust your instincts. Gut reaction is always correct! My ds went to mainstream primary and did very well. When time came to choose secondary school I must have visited a dozen, mainstream and special school. Was immediately drawn to the special school but didn't follow my instinct as thought wouldn't be doing him any favours as he'd done so well in mainstream up to that point. Choose the best secondary mainstream school, he weent there for 6 weeks and all hell broke loose. Ended up giving up work and taking him out of school all together. He's now in a special school just out of our area but within a week of getting in there was so settled, calm, not anxious or aggressive. What a relief! It took nearly 5 months tho, so wish I'd gone with my gut to start with....learning curve for us all i suppose! Good luck!
