**Debs** Report post Posted December 7, 2006 i have looked and havent seen the answers to these questions or i am going blind to everything 1. am i right in thinking you are supposed to get your letter of exclusion within 24 hours of your child being sent home 2. is it up to the teaching staff to supply work if they are at home for 2.5 days? 3. who is supposed to phone to tell you they are excluded? and when you get there who is supposed to tell you of the decision? sorry but these are questions that have arisen from my sons newest exclusion and the last 2 of them. the head teacher has been no where to be seen when he has come home from school (not that i mind as she is ummmmm sorry no polite word springs to mind). I have had no letter last time and this time and they were both for 2.5 days although this one should be 3 days as i got there before 12 lunch time. He has been given work on one occaision then another he was given a reading book to last the 2 days and he read it in half an hour leaving me to trawl the internet to find worksheets etc for him to do. This time nothing again!! they are failing him i know but i feel i am banging my head against a brick wall with this school (same school his older brother had problems with). Sorry for the moan. Jill Report post Posted December 7, 2006 By no means an expert on this, but I do believe you should get a formal letter from the Head Teacher within 24 hours of exclusion. This is out of my knowledge boundaries at the mo I am afraid - The Boy starts school in January, so we've these sorts of things to "look forward" to. annie Report post Posted December 7, 2006 (edited) Hi Debs, Welcome to the forum This link to IPSEA's website should be able to help you. http://www.ipsea.org.uk/exclusion-support-sheets.htm Only the Head may exclude (if the Head is absent it should be the most senior teacher who is acting as Head)..........................taken from ACE's site http://www.ace-ed.org.uk/advice/booklets/FixedExclusion.html Annie xx Edited December 7, 2006 by annie

**Debs** Report post Posted December 7, 2006 Thanks for those links I am not happy with the school ..... his form teacher has excluded him the last 2 times not the head or the deputy and she and the secretary phone me on the exclusion days. I think the head cant be bothered to talk to me regarding the exclusions as i had a confrontation with her 3 years ago when my oldest son was excluded numerous times and her attitude stank. The last 3 exclusions have been with no letter!!! two of which were for 2.5 days with no work except a reading book nothing this time. sorry about the moan and groan i just wanted to check what was official and what wasnt before i jump down someones throat on monday morning
pumpkinpie Report post Posted December 8, 2006 Dont jump down anyones throat, complain in wtiting to the head and governors! The school and governing body is on shaky ground legally and I suspect they arent aware of what is going on. Put it in writing its much harder to ignore!!!!!!! **Debs** Report post Posted December 21, 2006 i think i have confused the chair of governors with this one!! i sent a letter into him last week regarding the exclusions (following advice from a senior education welfare officer) and i have recieved a letter yesterday saying they are gathering information relating to the exclusions and there will be a meeting for all concerned in the new school term. The EWO's advice was to write to the governors and also lodge a complaint to the LEA via the online form as i (and the forum) was correct in thinking it was an illegal exclusion, yes only the head/deputy/or someone acting up in both of their absences can exclude and the fact that homework should be given but it is our responsibility to get that work back to schoool to be marked.
