LEA said NO!!

Recommended Posts

There was an early year panel yesterday where my son was discussed. He has got about 50 words and is putting 2 words together. Short attention and concetration and behaviour problems.

They have decided to do NOTHING!!! They won't put him forward for a statory assessment or even allocate him an educational pdychologist.

When both my girls were his age, they both had an educational psychologist. His speech is worse then the 7 year old when she was his age.

This was the second blow off the day from them. The first one being is that i finally recieved DD7 report from their specific learning teacher who only went and assess her again for dyslexia.

DD7 was screened 7/8 months ago by an independent specialist teacher who was funded by her statement.

Then i went private and got the diagnosis from a specialist educational psychologist. The LEA weren't happy about this and have been trying to disprove it since.

Hence their own specialist coming in and testing DD7.

In the report there was no mention or comparison of the previous test.

So iwent and comparied the latter report to the former test paper.

The test has 12 sections to it.

Since the last test DD7 has deteriated in 3 area's.

The posture wasn't mention in the latter report.

The bead threading in the former test was scored as 2 and she marked it as ---. which means very high at risk.

In the latter test DD7 was able to do 4 beads, and getting scored 0 which is normal?????

In the backward digital span, the former test she scored 2, which was marked as --. In the latter test she scored 3 and was given 0 again?????

Any experts on the harcort screening test for dyslexia on here??????? Or has anyone child taking the test and seeing if there child scores match up to mine???

sorry chic i dont know anything about dyslexia so cant help with that...

were the panel discussing your son who is three years old? they are probably hoping that he will miraculously learn to speak hundreds of words and full sentences by the time he starts school....in which case they won't have to provide him with a statement..... :wallbash:

Yes it's my 3 year old son. It's so stupid, them doing this as my older 2 have got statements. It's a genetic thing.

I had speech therapy on/off until i was 16. I spent 2 years in a special school, had special ed until i was 13.

And yet they still think that somehow my son is going to be "cured" within 2 years.

My middle one speech has improved, BUT with her it's like peeling an onion. In the way that as time goes on, more things come to light. Especially this past week. She has got visual stress / Meares-Irlen Syndrome.

Which was discovered last wednesday and then this monday there was a phonecall from the OT to say that DD7 has been referred for sensory intergation therapy. As she has got sensory processing difficulties.

How on earth can they strike him off like that. They are such a bunch off 2 faced %%$%.:angry:

In our area Col the practice seems to be to refuse and then hope the parent doesnt try again with more evidence. One of the cases we had at the last sen regulation meeting I went to which looks at these decisions by the panel was the parents 3rd attempt but she got it!

Dont give up!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems very relevant doesnt it after the row about Ms Kelly!

I would ask them in writing how they came to this decision and definetly want someone with me at the meeting - professionals gang up again!!!!!!!!!
