DLA.......Won new award!

Recommended Posts

Woooo Hooooo! :thumbs::clap:

Yes!, El has been awarded DLA again, still at middle rate (we saw his Consultant this week and she is adamant he should be on High rate and is submitting the DWP a letter stating so!), but with low rate mobility which is what we have been fighting for!!!

And even better we don't have to fill in the dreaded forms again until 2014!!!!!!!! ......I sternly worded on the forms his disability will NOT go away, and that I almost have a breakdown at the sight of them forms!

They recieved our forms on June 29th so we have been fast tracked .......lucky for us!

I only rang them up to ask about the Consultants letter and who should I make it FAO for, and got told this!!!

I wasn't cheeky enough to ask if they would be backdating the mobility, though!

That was fast. Great news too. We are waiting for ours to come through. I too hate filling in those forms, it took us 2 months to finally send it off. With a DX now we shouldn't have any problems getting it renewed, we had middle rate witout mobility, but with a psychiatrist on the case we are hoping to get mobility this time too.

Thanks Wicce! >:D<<'>

Yes, extremely fast! El's first DLA Award was done a month before his dx two years ago, so maybe that's why no mobility was applied? But this is great, as I said his Consultant is of the opinion that the DLA should be high rate, but we'll see what happens!

Just so happy that we don't have to face them again for seven years!

I'd had the forms since March but hate the filling in process, it feels to me like going through all the tears and upset all over again....and having to redo them every year or two years is soul destroying. I had a major moan about that on my extra notes I placed in te envelope, luckily it seemed to help!

Good Luck

Hi for high rate the care and needs to be both day and night, if you care and meet your sons needs both night and day then he should get Higher rate so just keep that in mind, Js needs in the night are due to Anxiety, unprodicatable behaviour and increased aggression, from needing reasurrance and assistance getting back into bed, J regulary wakes up throw the night needing attention and his needs attending to also supervision to ensure he is safe.

Its how you word a lot of the needs constant, is one that I use a lot, it sounds like the consultants letter will make a difference, as well.

J is recently getting assessed for a blue badge as well as this can go with him with who ever is caring for him, so remember even with a low mobility he can still be assessed for the mobility blue badge card too.

You may be also be entitled to carers allowance and once you recieve DLA there is also the Family Fund to apply to for extra equiptment that he may need to help aid his development, I have recently applied for a sensory weighted blanket and a specialised Trampoline.

I am so relieved your son has been awarded his DLA as it will really help to pay for things that he will need due to his disabilities.

Thanks JsMum,

This is actually a Renewal claim first awarded two years ago. El has been on middle rate since 2005 with no mobility and I have been recieving Carers allowance in that time too. I have a Family Fund application in discussion and review at the moment!!!!

I am a old hand at this now!! El had a massive meltdown at the appointment, and had to be taken into a soft play room with sensory lights to calm him down as he was so distressed and the Doc was very shocked, she has only ever seen him placid and smiley (Typical!!!), so I think this also had an effect on her offering to write this letter!!!

I was just expressing happiness at actually getting the renewal approved, sadly we have friends who have been knocked back recently and it seems to be happening more and more.... :(

He is still in a (specially made extra long) cot due to his lack of awareness with danger and fear, and nappies....so yes, we have to attend to him at night as well, but he does sleep well once he drops off!

Thanks for the advice anyway!!!

You should write a help leaflet! :)

Thats brilliant news Lisa. JP gets his till 21, at which point, if he's holding down a full time job, we hopefully wont need it anymore. I sent them a thankyou card at our last renewal as we've always been treated well by them.

Mr pearl used to assess DLA claims so there are some good 'uns out there!

He is, isnt he? That was how we realised we probably qualified for DLA in the first place. He's currently on front line at job centre, dealing with some very abusive peeps etc. But worth it he says for the genuine ones he can really help.

Our summer hols began weeks ago as JP left once his coursework complete! He's getting a bit moochy now, still only 3 weeks to go till work. I was thinking how weird, after this summer we wont be thinking in school terms any more after nearly 20 years of it. And it will be strange having time on my own, he's around all the time at the mo.

Hope you survive, nay thrive, this summer! Enjoy the party!!

I'm applying for DLA for the first time. In section 2 of the form what category does Aspergers come under? Is it *has a learning difficulty* *has a mental health problem* or *has a long term illness?

I'm not applying under the Special Rules so do I still have to send in a doctors DS1500 Report?

I would tick all three if you feel they apply! But I write a lot in these darn forms! In my son's case he is affected by a learning difficulty (He is non verbal, and globally delayed) Mentally? (Definately, As his ASD is severe and it affects his mental view on how he percieves things/processes life) Long term illness? (Well, long term disability....it isn't going to be cured!, so yes, though illness is the wrong word!)

And don't send the DS1500!

Best Thing to do is go along to your local CAB and they will help you fill in the forms!

Good Luck!
