Tally Report post Posted November 24, 2007 If he won the election then presumably the majority of Australians are happy? From what I've heard though, a lot of people are also very unhappy.

No its a BIG MISTAKE based onstupidity and ignorance. Mainly they were tired of Howard and didn't like Costello. Rudd's policies make my skin crawl - they were dirty tactics - also he is a SMUG so and so. Big mistake I actually feel sick

Bard Report post Posted November 25, 2007 With all due respect Frang... Australia is celebrating!!!! Evaxx But let's forget politics, hey! From what I've read, he's got more than half the seats 83/150? He's going to pull troops out of Iraq, sign the Kyoto agreement, sort out unfair labour laws, not be so chummy with Bush and try to be a president for all Australians. It will be interesting to see how many of his promises he keeps, but I think a lot of Australians must have been happy to take the risk after a decade. That's politics! I remember the euphoria when Thatcher fell, and how devastated my in-laws were. Freedom to choose is wonderful. Ask Pakistan.
brooke Report post Posted November 25, 2007 I heard he even lost his own seat which is a shame and the new leader wants a referendum on the Queen being head of state
J's mum Report post Posted November 25, 2007 First post on here (have read the forum for a while now) but I'd just like to say that not all Australia is in mourning and that not all Australians voted out of 'ignorance or stupidity.' Must be great to have such a low opinion of your fellow countrymen/women.
Frangipani Report post Posted November 25, 2007 (edited) With all due respect Frang... Australia is celebrating!!!! Evaxx But let's forget politics, hey! Sorry Eva I have to disagree on this one. I will zip my lips and say told you so in as little as 12 months time. I remember what it was like running a business and paying off a home and the interest rates were up to 17% I could go on and on. <'> Fxx Edited November 25, 2007 by Frangipani
Bard Report post Posted November 25, 2007 Ahh politics! As I said, when Thatcher lost, a certain portion of the country mourned, and another rejoiced. It depends on your circumstances, and how much you have to lose or gain. Sometimes it's hard to tighten your own belt in order to benefit the wider community, and the country. Sometimes you think you've voted for change and improvements, and all you get is another politician. I know that my in-laws still await the return of the far-right in Britain with breathless anticipation and hope.

Eva Report post Posted November 25, 2007 Frangipani, we were thinking of driving over to Malvern (posh conservative area) singing The Internationale out of the car window. It was a LANDSLIDE victory Frangipani. As Brooke mentioned, Howard even lost his own seat!! Eva
