New here, hello!

Recommended Posts

Hi,gosh i never knew there were so many people having the same problems as us! Our son as been having problems with behaviour etc since nursery, it's took us 9 years to get ASD diagnosed!.When he was 5 we got referred to child development then CAMHS who told us to 'get a book off the internet' as the psychiatrist was leaving... i suppose she could'nt be bothered,we've had educational etc prof, going into school to 'observe' his 'bizarre' behaviour few times.Filled the checklist in twice for ADHD,tho bad never got anywhere.

When he was 8yrs went back to CAMHS (we/school still had concerns)the so called prof told us he's doing it because he wants to be naughty,he never spoke to our son to see 'what the problem was' our son had 'behaviour probs & was an engima' it said on reports.

2001 got put on SEN,2005 we got a statement!

Even the SSA at school could not cope with him 'all day' went to a Pupil Learning Centre for behaviour, made him worse! school called for a 'home visit' must of thought we were 'bad parents' we got predjudice from teachers at school etc who could'nt understand him & took it out on us! he was due to go to Secondary School i told them he would'nt cope as we saw another woman who may 'help us' she waited till the last day of term then said 'O he can't go to high school they cant meet his needs, we'll put him back a year at a primary school with a unit for ASD', tho he had'nt been diagnosed yet..

because of CAMHS saying there was nothing wrong in 2004 and 2005 when we had gone back to CAMHS she had to refer us again to an ASD expert this time again at CAMHS.

we waited a year to see him,tho she could of referred us when we first met her. Then he was seriously ill in hospital the day before we were due to see the ASD specialist,so here we are 6 month later diagnosed ASD but we still have'nt received the report. Our son will be going to a High School with a unit in Sept so i dont know what he'll be like, hes been suspended 3 times in the past for his behaviour, they just send him home for a few days, what good does that do tho? he goes to school in a taxi & is on his last warning it just never stops! hes 12 now...

Hi everyone again, thanx for the replys, yes were all in the same boat! i've survived 9 years up to now :wallbash: I've received the psychological report from the ADOS assessment and it states he's got ASD with sensory problems! if only they would have listened to us/parents years ago :fight: hes our only child so we could'nt compare him to other siblings, we even had prof asking us how long we had been together! :o even tho its 18 years! i dont know, we can only hope things get better for parents like us all..

hopefully now he has been diagnosed he can get some proper help, glad you found the forum, weve been throw the sytems too, very frustrating and time wasted, but in some ways its made me stronger and more determined to ensure J gets his rights met.

Its a struggle sometimes you forget that there is other families struggling the same because its a personal situation and depends what support/family you have around, I know I felt at times terribly isolated, thought no one could possibly understand, especially in the big wide world where all we where confronted with was, oh hes just naugty, or something on those lines, so i felt incredibally alone, but when i found the forum I knew others where going throw similair issues, and its a really helpful site, Ive found loads of useful stratagies and interventions that have really helped, my son.

What does his statement say he has, it may need amending, to include ASD, you could request further advice from IPSEA to look into weather the LEA need to look at alternate transport and have you been to see the ASD unit, yet and the school?

what ever happens from now hopefully you wont feel so alone, and you have a place to come to talk.

A warm welcome, nice to meet you.

Hi hi

You know these so called experts make my blood boil!!!

We were very lucky to get a great doc, (He looked like a little scruffy chap and i said to my hubby, aww, i wonder whats wrong with his child?) I nearly died when we walked in the room and introduced him as the child psychologist

I hope you get the help your son needs
