Where is ASD mentioned in your Statement?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering where/whether you have your child's ASD/ADHD/ODD etc etc mentioned in the statement of SEN. If so, where about is it mentioned in there?

L's is written in under part 5 of his Statement - Non-educational needs. Just wondering if this is the 'norm' or not?

Bill's is detailed in part 2.

If your son has a statement due to difficulties related to ASD, then I can't understand why it is written into part 5... because it is an educational need surely?

Doesn't make sense does it?

If its only in Part 5 then the provision relating to ASD won't be dealt with in Part 3 which is where it needs to be. His diagnosis and difficulties should be in Part 2 and provision in Part 3 Contact IPSEA asap. There is a good book by ACE about statements.

Hi.It would be a very good idea to push very hard to ensure that ASD and any support relating to ASD is included within educational provision. It is very difficult to ensure that any provision under ''non-educational'' needs is provided or to challenge the LEA if it is not.The provision could be withdrawn at very short notice if budgets are reviewed or the needs of the service dictate it. :wallbash::wallbash: Karen.

Agree with all of above.

ASD is always going to be an educational need. The only non educational needs are usually purely medical, for example a heart condition which does not affect the child's ability to learn.

Sometimes needs can be mentioned in part 2 and again in part 5, but only part 2 is leaglly enforceable.

Agree, T's was in part 2. If it is in part 5, it will not be taken into account when choosing a school. What have they put in Part 2?

In your position, it would be good to have AS put in, rather than ASD (if your son has AS), as it will affect which schools will be considered/will consider him.
