Flora Report post Posted November 14, 2008 There are things that have occurred behind the scenes on this forum that most members don?t know about, and of course it should remain that way. However, it means that things are said sometimes that have more significance to some than they appear to have at face value. When this occurs it is impossible sometimes to remain objective. I speak for myself here, not for others, because I know there are those who have the ability to remain objective at all times? unfortunately I do not. For this reason, I no longer want to moderate this forum and have already resigned. The latest incident has attracted input from members who had nothing to do with the originating dialogue. One of which I can see clearly why they made their input and has personal origins so while it was disappointing, it was not surprising (and I'm sure nobody wants me to open that can of worms). The others probably took at face value a dialogue which they didn't understand and saw me as the aggressor. I can live with that, but I really don't want to continue to be on the receiving end of it. This forum doesn't really figure in my life enough for it to justify the aggravation. It is hard to go like this and not give the whole picture but I am clinging onto my integrity, preventing myself from spilling the beans to vindicate myself at the expense of the privacy of others, most of whom do not deserve that consideration. The small number of people who are my friends here know exactly who they are and we will stay in touch in r/l. Flora
baddad Report post Posted November 14, 2008 Hi flozza I'm gonna refrain from responding right now because, frankly, at this point, I am too ###### angry about this to remain 'objective'. I am really, really sorry to see you making this decision, but fully appreciate the reasons why you felt the need to make it. I am sure the majority of members will agree that the sound advice and input you have offered as a member and a mod has been hugely beneficial to all. I hope that in the former guise you will feel able to continue to do so at some point. I'll leave it there for now - lest I say some things other people choose to judge as things I should have reason to regret <'>

Clare63 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 Flora I can not thank you enough for all the support and encouragement you have given me in fighting the LEA and finally getting my son a place in the school he deserves. Your advice has been so valuable and I don't think I would have achieved this without you. The exeriences you shared with me helped me no idea and I now think its will be a huge loss to others who may come along in a simular position and will not benefit from your wealth of expereince and knowledge in this field. Wishing you much happiness in the future, I will be in touch. Clare x x x

Flora Report post Posted November 15, 2008 Thank you to all who posted/pm'd messages of support. Just to clarify a few things. First off this wasn't an 'I'm leaving' thread and it wasn't a 'stroppy decision' that I chose to step down. I stepped down because when an internet forum starts to influence how you feel when you're not on the internet then you need to remove yourself from the cause; this happened to me several weeks ago but I stuck around, promising myself that if it happened again I would take action, which is exactly what happened yesterday. I'm glad I had the opportunity to moderate, but I'm hugely relieved now not to be doing it Do not underestimate the mods on this forum... at times it's like sitting in on a war council, with all the diplomacy and tactical decisions that go with it (many of which go against your natural human instincts ) I'm not leaving the forum but my only real input here now when I find the time to come online is supporting people who are going through tribunal and keeping in touch with friends (some of which overlap ) Flora

mossgrove Report post Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) Flora I am sorry that you have decided to go, but I fully understand your reasons for doing so and I have often considered doing the same myself. You have made an immense contribution in your time as a Mod and I would like to thank you for that. I have been on this forum for slighly over 5 years (I was the 5th Member to join) , the last 2 years or so as a moderator. I thought it might be helpful to clear up some misunderstandings about running/moderating this forum: This forum carries no adverts, no member has EVER been asked to contribute any money to running it and as far as I know that will never change. Despite this some members here repeatedly imply that the Mods and Admins are part of a conspiracy to try and prevent Autistic People and their families from discussing issues that mattter to them. They might wish to reflect that running and financing this forum (in the case of the Admins) and Moderating it (in the case of the mods) is a mighty strange way of achieving this objective. Moderators are members too. We all started as members here and we have the same stresses, strains and time pressures in our lives that you do, but we have chosen to spend some of that time helping this forum to function. Plese bear than in mind before you judge us and don't set the bar too high in terms of what you expect from us. Sadly the mods and admins have had to deal with circumstances where things have been done with the express intention of causing trouble on the forum. This causes a lot more stress behind the scenes that is ever seen publically. We do not ask to be treated as saints. We are no more and less than fellow forum members who have volunteered some of our time to help. While we do our best we will occasionaly be slower to respond that you would like, or we may sometimes deal with things in a way that you disagree with. Thats life, we are human after all and we all have our own perspectives. If people like Baddad and Flora and KarenA (to name the most recent departees) had not stepped forward when they did, this forum would have either ceased to exist or descended into anarchy. We are now at a point where we have very few active mods so please be patient with those you have left!
