Autistic music help

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys.

Please dont think im strange, but i am after finding some songs which relate to autism and aspergers, but not nesecerially in a direct way. An example would be 'About a boy' (theme to about a boy) and 'something to talk about' (same film). I already have these, But was wondering if anyone knew any other songs along the lines of autism. as i say im not totally obsessed but i rather like listening to these two songs, as i can relate kieran to them, so if you have any other songs you have heard about could you please let me know...

Thanks so much.

See what happens when i am left on my own for 2 minutes, i get hair brained ideas.. I blame it on living here !!

Hi Pingu,

I'm strange too so your not alone

A while ago there was a discussion about the lyrics of a Coldplay song - LET'S TALK from the x&y album

Also TOO MUCH OF EVERYTHING by the Who from the Who's Next album.

Another tho its a bit soppy - TRUE COLOURS by Phil Collins, I dont know the album because I dont particularly like any of his other stuff.

Give me a few days and I'll give you a very long list. :D

God I'm such a sentimental old fool  but every time I hear The Hollies and 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother' I think of my beautiful ASD son and his two lovely NT sisters and I just want to :crying: . Hears hoping they take the words to heart.

Kate Bush,Running Up The Hill

Helen Reddy, You And Me Against The World

REM, Everybody Hurts

and something from Bjorks first album but I cant remember what its called.

Not music I know but a scene from Bill Murrays, What About Bob, in which he utters the immortal line ....careful, youre frightening the straights. Always mutter that to husband when son has a public meltdown.

it's quite obscure and not everyone's cup of tea but there's a beautiful folk song by a man named dick gaughan called "what you do with what you've got"

the courus goes: it's not just what you're born with, it's what you choose to bear,

it's not how big your share is, but how much you can share,

it's not the fights you dream of, it's those you've really fought,

it's not just what you're given, it's what you do with what you've got!

well worth listening to even if you don't like the song itself as the lyrics are so inspirational, it always leaves me feeling more positive :D

Two songs for the parents ...

Lee Ann Womack

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,

Never settle for the path of least resistance

Livin' might mean takin' chances but they're worth takin',

Lovin' might be a mistake but it's worth makin',

Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter,

When you come close to sellin' out reconsider,

Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance,

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance....I hope you dance.

Elkie Brooks

We don't cry out loud, we keep it inside, leam how to hide our feelings.

Fly high and proud. and if you should fall remember you almost had it all.

Hi,

A song comes to mind when I remember my son at 16 was totally in love with this girl in his year, but the way he described things was like he was looking at her through a looking glass and could never even pluck up the courage to say hello, so he just looked at her from the distance for about six months. So when the song by James Blunt "Your Beautiful" was first heard, oh, :crying: it brought tears to my eyes, as the words to me; were about my son and this girl. Because of his ASD anxiety.......I guess I noticed a lot of his friends had girlfriends and even the counsellor worked on him for 5 months just to how to say hello, and gave him tips on just to be yourself, but, he just couldn't do it.

Here are the lyrics

James Blunt - You're Beautiful Lyrics

My life is brilliant.

My love is pure.

I saw an angel.

Of that I'm sure.

She smiled at me on the subway.

She was with another man.

But I won't lose no sleep on that,

'Cause I've got a plan.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.

You're beautiful, it's true.

I saw you face in a crowded place,

And I don't know what to do,

'Cause I'll never be with you.

Yeah, she caught my eye,

As we walked on by.

She could see from my face that I was,

F**king high,

And I don't think that I'll see her again,

But we shared a moment that will last till the end.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.

You're beautiful, it's true.

I saw you face in a crowded place,

And I don't know what to do,

'Cause I'll never be with you.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.

You're beautiful, it's true.

There must be an angel with a smile on her face,

When she thought up that I should be with you.

But it's time to face the truth,

I will never be with you.

'Don't Cry Out Loud' is a fantastic song. I have it on CD but sung by American Idol finalist Diana DeGarmo. Had it sent to me by a friend I have there and I swear, that song was made for me. :D

Another 2 songs I love is 'My Way', I think was sung by the Beatles but might be wrong and the other is 'Bad Day' by Daniel Pelzer (sp?).

Eddited to add 'Bridge Over Trouble Waters' is another excellent song.

Here's an old song by Gloria Gaynor that I think my son likes although he never expresses his opinions about lyrics:

I am what I am

I am my own special creation

So come take a look

Give me the hook or the ovation

It's my world that I want to have a little pride in

My world and it's not a place I have to hide in

Life's not worth a damn till you can say

Hey world I am what I am

I am what I am

I don't want praise

I don't want pity

I bang my own drum

Some think it's noise

I think it's pretty

And so what if I love each feather and each spangle

Why not try and see things from a different angle

Your life is a sham till you can say

Hey world I am what I am

I am what I am

And what I am needs no excuses

I deal my own deck

Sometimes the ace

Sometimes the deuces

It's my life and there's no return and no deposit

One life, so it's time to open up your closet

Life's not worth a damn till you can say

Hey world I am what I am

And I found this song by Russell Watson from the album "Encore" (Where my heart will take me) it's a very nice song and inspiring when things go wrong and I need to gather my strengh again, so I'll post it here for the parents:

It's been a long road, getting from there to here.

It's been a long time, but my time is finally near.

And I can feel the change in the wind right now. Nothing's in my way.

And they're not gonna hold me down no more, no they're not gonna hold me down.

Cause I've got faith of the heart.

I'm going where my heart will take me.

I've got faith to believe. I can do anything.

I've got strength of the soul. And no one's gonna bend or break me.

I can reach any star. I?ve got faith, faith of the heart.

It's been a long night. Trying to find my way.

Been through the darkness. Now I finally have my day.

And I will see my dream come alive at last. I will touch the sky.

And they're not gonna hold me down no more, no they're not gonna change my mind.

Cause I've got faith of the heart.

I'm going where my heart will take me.

I've got faith to believe. I can do anything.

I've got strength of the soul. And no one?s gonna bend or break me.

I can reach any star. I've got faith, faith of the heart.

I've known the wind so cold, I?ve seen the darkest days.

But now the winds I feel, are only winds of change.

I've been through the fire and I?ve been through the rain.

But I'll be fine ...

Cause I've got faith of the heart.

I'm going where my heart will take me.

I've got faith to believe. I can do anything.

I've got strength of the soul. And no one?s gonna bend or break me.

I can reach any star. I've got faith, faith of the heart.

lots of

Who I Am

------Jessica Andrews

If I live to be a hundred

And never see the seven wonders

That'll be alright

If I don't make it to the big leagues

If I never win a Grammy

I'm gonna be just fine

'Cause I know exactly who I am

I am Rosemary's granddaughter

The spitting image of my father

And when the day is done

My momma's still my biggest fan

Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy

But I've got friends that love me

And they know just where I stand

It's all a part of me

And that's who I am

So when I make a big mistake

When I fall flat on my face

I know I'll be alright

Should my tender heart be broken

I will cry those teardrops knowin'

I will be just fine

'Cause nothin' changes who I am

I am Rosemary's granddaughter

The spitting image of my father

And when the day is done

My momma's still my biggest fan

Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy

But I've got friends that love me

And they know just where I stand

and It's all a part of me

And that's who I am

I'm a saint and I'm a sinner

I?m a loser, I'm a winner

I'm steady and unstable

I'm young but I am able

I am Rosemary's granddaughter

The spitting image of my father

And when the day is done

My momma's still my biggest fan

Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy

But I've got friends that love me

And they know where I stand

It's all a part of me

And that's who I am

I am Rosemary's granddaughter

The spitting image of my father

And when the day is done

My momma's still my biggest fan

Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy

But I've got friends that love me

And they know where I stand

It's all a part of me

And that's who I am

That is who I am
