Guest hallyscomet Report post Posted July 18, 2006 (edited) Baddad that was Roy Harper 'When an old cricker leaves the crease' And all remains, in the groundsman's pains, For the rest of time and a day. There'll be one mad dog and his master, pushing for 4 with the spin. On a dusty pitch, with two pounds six, of willowwood in the sun. When an old cricketer leaves the crease, you never know whether he's gone, If maybe you're catching a fleeting glimpse, of a twelfth man at silly mid-on. And it could be Geoff, and it could be John, With a new ball sting in his tail. And it could be me, and it could be thee, And it could be the sting in the ale.........sting in the ale. ...... Hi Baddad I have to admit I remember the words but had to get some help with his name. My family were cricket mad back then I think we must have had every cricket and footie song ever released you end up learning by rote as you here them so much, cricket and footie songs were top of the list for my brother and his friends, he used to dance around the house to some of them or down the backyard, my brother was a nutter. something vague Report post Posted July 19, 2006 BD, I'm not a tiddler, wish I was. I remember the Roy Harper song from about '79, '80 so it must have been an old song by then! curra Report post Posted July 20, 2006 Don't know if the title is "That's what friends are for", but it's one of the lines. Was it Dionne Warwick the singer? here are the lyrics: And I never thought I'd feel this way And as far as I'm concerned I'm glad I got the chance to say That I do believe I love you And if I should ever go away Well then close your eyes and try To feel the way we do today And then if you can remember Keep smiling, keep shining Knowing you can always count on me, for sure That's what friends are for For good times and bad times I'll be on your side forever more That's what friends are for Well you came in loving me And now there's so much more I see And so by the way I thank you Oh and then for the times when we're apart Well then close your eyes and know The words are coming from my heart And then if you can remember Curra

mossgrove Report post Posted July 20, 2006 I confess I googled and found out. I think the reason everone is struggling is that it isn't a well known song here in the UK (I can't remember it at all). It maybe it was popular and it passed me by, but I don't think so. It was sung on American Idol but that show has never been very popular in the UK. something vague Report post Posted July 23, 2006 Thanks Suze, I can answer yours David Bowie - Life on Mars As for Baddad, I think young American is in there somewhere and the original song that he mentions with the lines 'Waiting so long, I've been waiting so long' are gonna drive me mad cos I know it, i know i know it. Anyway lets just bypass those obscurish lyrics. 'waiting so long/speaker was an angel' is 'Look back in anger'... Then there's a bit of 'African nightflight' and the last track was 'I am a DJ ( I am what I play)'... Boom!!) easy peasy Love&Peacy BD YES EASY PEASY, Its PINK FLOYD...................but I've forgotten the name of the song, it was the last song on the album and the album had a brilliant line drawing cover. My brother was pretty annoyed when I coloured the picture in. The next verse: - I know a room of musical tunes' Some chime some ching most of them are clockwork, Let's go into the other room and make em work. Then lots of wierd mechanical noises that i cant spell. Oh and there's a verse about a bike. The album also had Julia Dream, Arnold Lane and a really dreamy track about pillars of something. Maybe the album was called Pink Floyd, and the track might have been called Bicycle or maybe just Bike. Heres another easy one......... mossgrove Report post Posted July 24, 2006 ...and I think the Pink Floyd song started "I've got a bike you can ride it if you like" and was called (surprisingly enough) "Bike".
