I'm finding this........it's like a secret society here at the moment. Went into wollies to buy bits for a sensory room - didn't mention the words 'sensory room' but the assistant was chatting away for ages....turned out her son also has Aspergers, the lovely security guard who saved my sanity in Tesco by reacting so calmly to M....told me afterwards that his daughter is Autistic. I have met quite a few people now - just going about my buisness - it's always great to speek to someone who understands what your going on about!!!

Hiya Tylers-Mum, I can remember M lining up his thomas trains...by colour, by name, by number..... But only ever with the thomas trains, the rest of his toys he didn't. This morning......M has made 24 lego cars.....in a line...... "I've made 24 cars, using 98 pieces". I love lego! So in comes mummy, all exited.. "ohhh, can we make a lego house??" M looks at me as if i've come from mars........"Don't be silly mummy, only cars.....".

Who the..?? What the.....??? Honestly.... I start up a nice, friendly game....and look what happens when i leave you to play............. Baddad - Your a bad influence.....go sit on the naughty chair at once!

M was finally diagnosed at 6 (AS), but it was one hell of a battle. o - 1yr; i didn't have many concerns, just a 'feeling' that all wasn't right. But M was born at 30 weeks - emergency section, so i and the HV put it down to prematurity. 1 - 2yrs; I was begiining to worry - he didn't react the same way as other children - again, i counldn't put my finger on it....but i was getting concerned. HV said - "He's just like your brother" - yup, She was MY and my brother's HV!!!! so needless to say - not too helpful. 2 - 3yrs; Major problems at pre-school. They dragged in same old HV......"just like his uncle.." I asked for more help - not provided 3 -4yrs; I finally left my abusive partner - horrible time for me and M . And the reason for his behaviour according to the HV..... 4 -5ys; School...School Action immediately - School Action Plus within a term.....at this point i began to shout/scream/throw a paddy... 5 - 6yrs; Finally getting assessed - Diagnosis at 6yrs 6mnths..... 6yrs plus..........hmmmm, where's the cavalry???

Wow - reading through these comments - i'm beginning to panic about M's future school life now. The only special school near to us is mainly for physically disabled children or children with huge learning difficulties. Where does that leave M? , who has a massive IQ, but is unable to do most everyday things for himself....

Today, M has had a cousins birthday party. The party was at a local ski center - sliding down the slopes in one of those doughnut rings. M is terrified of heights - not brave - gets unsettled by crowds of people/children.... He was fantastic!! It took a full 20 minutes of chatting and reasuring him to get him up the slope, and another 20 minutes to get him to sit on the doughnut...he went down sitting on his aunties lap. He got to the bottom - anounced to me 'i did it' with a huge grin on his face. I asked if he wanted another go............'no thanks ' I am so, so proud of him for having a try, it's a huge thing for him and us.

Dusting......hoovering.....biting nails.....sleeping - NOT!.......pacing.......wondering.....driving yourself crazy..... Erm, not too helpful, but i know how you feel xxxx <'>

Hi MumTee, My son is 6, diagnosed with Aspergers. He's in mainstream school and i'm afraid it's a contunious battle to get the help he needs. I'd love for him to go to a mainstream school with ASD unit, or a ASD special school, but the choices are limited in my area - and it's a huge fight to get him in, if at all. Mainstream schools can work - last year my son was well looked after. This year, same school, but new head and hopeless teacher

My son constantly does this too. But, it's usually only in social situations, ie; when we're out, when we talk at home he is very clear. So i've put it down to the stress of the moment. Mind you - still not so good with names!! It's still 'that boy' or 'that girl' - and those are his classmates (who he's been with for three years !).
