  1. I am a governor who has responsibility for sen. It used to be ok but now I am having so may problems and feel mistakes are being made. I want to represent all kids with sen but it is causing problems. I want to remain a governor but dont know if I can continue with the present attitude.
  2. Just wondered if anyone manages to juggle lyalty for our kids with the responsibility of being a school governor?
  3. The monetory value of units can go down. This is not specific enough and you need clarifiction, it is not for you to worry about funding thats schools responsibility. You need to know what is being put into the statment as per your childs needs. It is confusing though isnt it?
  4. Jus t read this thread, how awful. Its a joke that you have had to put so much energy into trying to get someone to just do the right thing. Good luck. Keep strong and have a good christmas.
  5. I dont agree that special schools are the correct option for all chidlren with learning diffficulties. Likewise I do not thisnk the policy of including all sen children in mainstream is correct. Children and families need and deserve choice, whether its units within mainstream, special mainstream etc. Its time we looked at whats going on in other counties as many offer much more flexibility and choice for families. Our kids deserve much more than the inflexible and oppressive system now which cares more about protecting budgets and staff than the best education for special kids.
  6. In our area the sen budgets have been devolved for the first 12 hour after that there is a additional budget their hope is to make it so complicated parents wont apply for a statement for effectively no funding. However the statement does offer some protection for the child, so I would advice getting one. I would agree with writing a letter and copying it to the COG these are important issues and his attitude regarding the insecure playground is ridiculous. I had to write and it took my child escaping several times before they put gates on the school grrounds.
  7. I am just guessing the reason. I was in school for the review in nov and nothing was mentioned about postponing the review until summer, and it should have been - I think. School have gone from being nice when my child was initally ill to very defensive when I have asked questions ie work to do at home, professinals in etc. It is this postponement that has really got to me especially as I feel I have found out about it by accident. Like you I have had trouble getting the p results and was told that for numeracy I was an intelligent person and can work it out myself.
  8. Does anyone have any feelings re sen governor?

    P Levels

This query regarding p levels really relates to some of my problems. At my childres review I asking about p levels. In the report there were levels for everything but maths. A phonecall with the head a few days later when I asked about resulted in me being told I knew what the p levels were and I was an intelligent person who could work it out myself???????
  10. Just being able to talk to people who dont think I am over reacting is brilliant. That you guys. Should I contact ed psych?
  11. Welldone. Are you going to explain to the chair why you wanted a copy?
  12. A friends school spoke to her and it was decided to have an informal meeting where parents were invited to attend. They were told all about asd and it was also made clear that her child was a welcome addition to the school. SHE THINKS DEALING WITH IT IN A POSITIVE LIGHT HELPED HER BUT IT DEPENDS ON THE SCHOOL.
  13. That didnt sound right. Who wants what is best for the child and will speak up if that is not what is best for the school.
  14. Mine would be someone I could trust and who is working towards what is best for my child not the school. Someone who talks to me and not at me!
  15. Theyve not put her review back but are thinking of asking the lea, I think part of the reason is the deputy has just left and the class teacher/senco is now acting deputy. When they said about it I was a bit taken back and said I d no strong feelings but now the more I think about it the more concerned it is about schools convienience and not my childs.
  16. Shes been at this school all her school life. Its getting worse. I think the head is blaming it all now on personalities of her old support assistants who were both leaving at xmas. She thought the sun shone out of their bottoms before ! She has 2 new supports starting and I thought brill get the training in early. I wanted it their second week so they could see her and then be getting advice. I feel to wait until feb half term at earliest for them to get to know her and see if problems reaccur is madness. School has broken up now . Should I be talking to ed psych now or is that only going to make school more defensive.
  17. I was thinking that I need to write. My childs been off school ill for weeks and just started coming intio school for visits. Its felt like they prefer this . In her sen review no mention was made off postponing visist indefinetley or putting off her annual review due in march until summer. I found this out last week. To be told behaviour wasnt major concern and that it was bigger picture they want advice on is a complete turn around. I was told in review behaviour was blocking her learning and stopping progress. So what are they on about???? ED psych said school staff negative and were putting forward mixed placement which I dont agree with. Are they setting her up to fail??
  18. My daughter has a statment which states she needs fulltime support. Every year we fall into the same pattern the first half term is hard work and it is usually takes until after xmas for them to listen to me handle her differently and things to settle down. This year within the first 5 wksI was asked to see head 3 times, a behaviour plan was done and school keen to get outside agencies involved(always been reluctant to do this in the past) I was told support didnt like my child. They seem surprised when I pointed out if they were negative with her then this would have an impact on her behavoiur and self estem. I had an hr long meeting with ed psych who was pleased school was bringing in an expert I recommended. Spoke to senco to check when coming in and told head had cancelled them indefinetley. Spoke to head who says behaviour is not now main issue but the bigger picture ie life skills. What is going on????
