  1. Hi I understand where you are coming from. when Matthew was 4 and at school nursery I told the teachers that I was taking him to the gp to be refferred as we thought as or adhd. he never wanted to be in nursery always cryed and tantrumed on the floor there and everyone had to step over him to get in , their responce was ' Oh you've got to do what you've got to do'! my theory is the mum knows best!! anyway I took him to the gp he was referred to a centre near here and 9mths later he was diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome (he also has ADHD). go with your gut instints, schools are not qualified to make any judgement at all!!
  2. Hi No Matthew's head was average sized and stayed the same throughout. actually he has always been pretty small for his age although catching up now.
  3. Hi Matthew was walking by 13mths, he started to walk at 12 mths but it took him a good few weeks to really get going. (at 12 mths could walk about 15 steps) he was saying words from about then too and by 17mths was talking in 2 worded sentences. (no different to my other 2 really)

    ADHD

Hi all thanks for your opinions!! will try that website. I will put M on meds if need be but am scared because of all the media etc. (especially Ritalin) Matthew has been on the eye Q fish oils since last summer now, they help but only a tiny bit.

    ADHD

Hi well Yesterday we saw Matthew's psychiatrist and finally he agrees and was able to dx Matthew with ADHD too aswell as his AS. just thought I would let you all know. we aren't going to put him on meds right now. he is due to start his new special needs school in sept and we will see how he goes first. not really sure what to do really about meds, I see them as a last resort. what are your opinions on meds? thanks
  6. Hi my son is left handed, just like his dad, grandma and auntie.
  7. <'> <'> Hi sounds like you are going through a similar thing to us. our son Matthew is always getting excluded for things he really can't help, it has been a really rough time so I am empathise with you I really can. and now his finalised statement is through too and has a place in a special school come september. let's hope our children are now going to get the help they so desperatly need!! Liz
  8. Thank you everyone!! Liz
  9. Hi everyone sorry I haven't been on here in months and months! been so busy, hectic and hard times with Matthew. he has been excluded quite a bit from school due to his behaviour, throwing stuff etc and since november he has been in part time school, just 2 1/2hrs aday in the mornings in a room on his own cause he couldn't cope with the classroom etc, been very difficult for him and all concerned. well finally today his official statement came through (proposed was weeks ago ) and has has been given a place in the special needs school which isn't too far from our house!! at last!! waited ages for this, so he starts in september!! Liz and Matthew
  10. Hi again, thank you all for you support!! I just remembered that we have a fibre optic lamp I put away so have put that in his room and sorted out some classical music for him, sadly we don't have much space in our house so his bedroom (which he shares with his younger brother) is the only place he can go! hoping to move soon so a small room.cupboard of even his own room if we can afford will definetly be considered!
  11. Hi I am on anti ds too, I have been on and off them for almost 9years now. since after my first child. I suffered with postnatal depression on and off for years. now for the last year of so been on a low dose of them and can't see ever coming off them really.
  12. Hi my son likes to either just strip off at home (and trys to at school too) he will just go around in his under pants, can be a bit embarrasing when people come to the door lol. his other obsession is shirts, he has loads in the ward robe, about 16ish, he will go through a few at a time and when he is finished with one shirt he just flings it on the floor! (button through shirts, short or long sleeved)
  13. Hi everyone. I thought I had done this topic the other day but can't seem to find it so I probably didn't post it lol. (hi bagpuss, was nice meeting you the other day!) right well we had a meeting at school last week with senco, head teacher, teacher, learning mentor and Ed psychologist, everyone involved with M at school and of cause me and hubby. we came to the decision that because of M behaviour in school M is to go to school just in the mornings for now until he gets his statement (which could take up to 6mths) so been really stressful around here lately! he isn't going into his class now either. he has a seperate quiet room and either a classromm assistant of the learnign mentor will work one on one with him. M has also created his own sensory room using tables for a den, a small christmas tree with lights and puts classical music on when he is feeling stressed (at school this is) the school have decided to to make there own sensory room! he is still having real bad days though and hitting, kicking throwing large heavy objects etc (am worried, need this behaviour to stop, as he gets older he is getting bigger and stronger ) he also runs about the school turning all the lights off. he is really obsessed with lights at the moment! there is someone coming in from the local autisic school and giving some good advice to the school and are going to allow M half an hour on a thursday to go there in their sensory room. (someone from school will take him) so hopefully that will go down well! anyway that is all I can think of for now, am sooo tired!
  14. Hi well done. Matthew gets the same!
  15. Hi I cannot believe they wouldn't assess him, I agree why didn't they diagnose adhd? My son has problems with behaviour too and also lack of concentraton so basically when they assessed my son they just gave him more time, it took a little longer to assess to get out of him what they required. That is just awful that they have left you like ths with no help and no diagnosis, how is that goning to help you or your son?
  16. Hi Your discription of you son is like mine. Matthew has Aspergers syndrome and has extreeme difficulties with his concentration too. school think he has adhd too but when he was diagnosed they said it wasn't adhd (the Psychiatrist) anyway he can't and won't do anything he is told at school and is behind alot. he is 6 and well I think he is bored with school, I also think he can't concentrate because of everyone else in the class, too many people. I have started him on eye-q fish oils and am hoping they help a bit!
  17. Hi yes another one, Matthew ill not do as he is told (rarely!) and school he doesn't think the rules apply to him. he only does what he wants to do!!
  18. Hi the emoticons were just on here, if you just press show all you will see more! Glad you taught that teacher a lesson!! I agree you cannot put autism in one box and expect everyone to be the same! well I spoke to the senco after school and she said they will do all they can to fight this as he needs it as he just isn't gettign any education! I think M has given up in all honesty, he sees no reason to have to learn, he said to me earlier, when you are older you don't need to know about cat and mat and words that rhyme, I had to explain to him that you have to start with small words then go onto learning bigger words.
  19. Matthew loves them! he wanted to put some more emoticons on before he goes to bed...
  20. Thanks for all your help!!!!
  21. No not yet, basically the school were gathering 'info' and getting evidence together and have just sent off it off, the LEA have received it and then meet on the panel in november to decide whether to take things further! matthew is sat right next to me and wants to put an icon on here
  22. hi thanks. well just tryed ringing LEA. they were as useless as a chocolate t-pot! they said there is no way to hurry things on and that if he gets a long term exclusion then that could slow things down! well the whole system is letting me and my down left right and centre and no support in between! she said in November the panel will sit down and decide if Matthew will get a statement! what happens if they decide not to!! what will happen then, is my son doomed forever?
  23. Hi well at that happened was we went into the heads office she sat us down and said to M are you going to be a good boy, are you going to join in and do as your told because we don't want naughty behaviour or running around the classroom, in this school, cause that is what it is and then we took him to his classroom. those were her words, so basically she expects a child with AS to join in without support, she has no idea!!! (she has working with AS kids before believe it or not!) so I just feel quite anoyed about this. I have now got the official letter saying he was excluded etc etc, he should have got this letter yesterday but it says he can't in that time go into school or on the premisis in that time, now I didn't know that part, I have no choice I have other kids so I still had to pick my daughter up. if this happens again, I don't know what to do as I have my youngest in the nursery there too, what do they expect me to do, leave my 6 year old at home on his own while I come to the school??
  24. thanks everyone!! well I will be going into to see the head with M tomorrow first thing, am dreading it in a way. I have no idea if M will be going into school tomorrow, so I will have to put his uniform on pack his lunch etc. what the head is saying is she thinks M is manipulating the situation and says that his naughty ness isn't necessarily to do with AS as he knows what he is doing and plans to be naughty, .........(but maybe it is cause he is very intelligent!) anyway will let you all know what happens tomorrow!
  25. Hi no he doesn't have any support in school yet (he has had his diagnosis over a year now) the school are gettign some info from the local school for autism and the EP is getting M referred back to where he was diagnosed. yes he is in mainstream at the moment!
