  1. Makes me wonder what musical passions I'd have ended up with if I'd ever had a relationship. Perhaps I might even have been motivated to learn a "proper" instrument by now.
  2. Will you be able to continue with that in Bristol?
  3. Bach, Cantata BWV 106, "Actus Tragicus"
  4. On a point of information, people do not "suffer" from Asperger's syndrome.
  5. I mean people who think they can be anonymous on Facebook are likely to be proved wrong. Remember, it only takes one so-called "friend" to reveal your identity to the world.
  6. Wagner, The Ride of the Valkyries http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aKAH_t0aXA
  7. I keep thinking I ought to do an evening class, but I keep missing the opportunity to sign up before the academic year starts. Either that or I don't want to commit myself because I don't know how much longer I'm going to be living in a particular area. Damn this uncertainty!
  8. If they think that, they've got another think coming.
  9. How does he feel about moving to Berlin?
  10. FWIW I've been single all my life. I wish I played in a group. How long / how often do you have to be here to be classed as a "regular"?
  11. Whatever you write, remember to spell-check applications!
  12. She was already volunteering for a museum. It's not clear how likely they were to offer her a paid job.
  13. Das scheint sehr anders als Softwareüberprüfung.
  14. Christine McVie, I'd Rather Go Blind
  15. I did an undergraduate degree in joint honours maths and philosophy, followed by a master's in applied maths. Since then I have worked at a building services consultancy (5 weeks), scientific civil service (7 1/2 years), environmental consultancy (5 months) and, finally, an internship at an electronics dotcom (October 2011 - February 2012).
  16. Although she was already working for free at a museum. In fact according to some reports she had been working there for seven months - much longer than her stint at Poundland - and returned to the museum position after her two-week retail stint was up. It makes you wonder why the museum isn't being accusing of exploiting unpaid workers. Ironically, there are far more lucrative opportunities for geology graduates elsewhere if only she hadn't restricted herself to this rather niche job market. Options with a geology degree
  17. So often on this forum and elsewhere people dismiss retail work, even as a stop-gap, as beneath them. But would you go to the extreme of a court case to uphold your human right not to work in Poundland? One thing I find surprising is that I was signing on at Exeter jobcentre for a year (May '09 - '10) and not once did they play the "take this job or else we'll scrap your benefits" card with me. Maybe that's all because I had several years' of NI contributions behind me - that and the fact that the advisors couldn't understand what my last job was about so were prepared to give me the benefit of being A Specialist. Or maybe the system has changed considerably since the change of government... Seriously, back then the advisors didn't seem that bovvered whether I'd applied for anything. At one of my signing-ons the advisor actually asked "Do you want me to look up some jobs for you on the computer?" - the implication being that she was quite happy just to sign my form and wish me a nice day! But enough about me... Cait Reilly in her own words
  18. St Andrews for first degree, Oxford for master's. Incidentally, Spinnaker Associates (the link in my last message) are unlikely to be of any help for finding work in Bristol: I just received a reply to an email I sent them yesterday saying: I only found about them via the list of exhibitors at last October's Environmental Trade Show (another link), most of whom were from the Bristol area.
  19. Would these people be any help for finding you work?

Is that (Ridgeway / Oxon) where you were on holiday?
  21. That was Solsbury Hill, not Salisbury. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVmxtJSd3SQ

I've learnt four, but I don't speak any of them fluently (see earlier thread) Hm - a tad implausible, given that E and L are pretty much at opposite ends of the qwerty keyboard. (bl00dy Aspie attention to mundane details! ) Funny the way Americans use coed to refer to a person as opposed to the educational philosophy. Is it also used to refer to a male student at a formerly all-female institution (i.e. the American equivalent of St Hilda's College Oxford), or has that scenario not arisen yet?
