  6. I have this problem with my almost 7 yr old AS son, i have often told him that other children in his class most likely get dressed themselves. he found this hard to believe, although they all get changed for pe at school, my son included. i asked his teacher if she could do some kind of poll, not directed at my son, but to involve all of the children. because i thought that maybe he wasnt understanding the concept that most children his age will get dressed by themselves, i thought maybe as he didnt see them getting ready of a morning, he thought that they didnt???? In school thay say "we get dressed" "we brush our teeth" "we get washed" "we brush our hair" etc but it doesnt state who does it. Anyway his teacher did a poll, asked a few questions to the class like "who does dressing, washed, etc by themselves" my son put his hand up because everyone else did and he didnt want to be the only one who didnt! his consionce got the better of him later in the day and he told me that he had lied to his teacher, explaining to me what had been discussed in class. and 4 days on the trot now he has done everything himself, teeth, hair, washing, dressing!!!!!!! so now hopefully this will continue with more pleasant mornings!!
  7. It should be noted that a crime can be commited in confusion and comunication though. I read a presentation from the liverpool aspergers team, they have performed a case study, i have looked for the link but can't find it, i will try and post it later. one of the examples that they use is the case of a man who attacked a taxi driver, whilst coming home from chester to liverpool. when they anylysed why the attack had taken place they found that the man had made this journey many times in a taxi with no bother, on this particular day the taxi driver knew that there was congestion through the mersey tunnel, so decided to take the route through runcorn. the man already had fears of being kidnapped and being out of control of a situation, and when he realised that the taxi driver was not going the regular way, attacked him through fear of being kidnapped. communication, paranoia, or misunderstanding a crime still happened that could have been prevented.
  8. try this, i found that the odd page in this booklet was very easy to read and understand, http://aspergertips.com/pageONE.html

  10. My son and I have recently been discussing painting his bedroom. A couple of mornings ago, in an attempt to wake him up for school, I started talking about the bedroom, to which he positively responded. Seeing this as my cue to lure him downstairs to physically get up, I stated, while walking out of the bedroom "come on, we will talk about when we're going to paint, downstairs!" My little boy got so annoyed, stropping about, sulking and demanded that his room be painted first as the living room doesn't need doing! He couldn't get his head around the fact that I meant that we would discuss it downstairs!
