  1. Hi i have someone coming on thursday from the family fund, and because i have aspergers myself it always helps to know some of the sort of things to expect them to ask or say, so what sort of thing would they ask and do or say? Do they come to watch the child, or not really that much? Im just wondering as my daughter is a completely different person when her sister is around(which she will be as she is onhalf term), she seems to talk alot etc except most of it is copying her sister but maybe the woman wont really notice this and she will just think she is fine. I know im probably worrying about nothing but just wanted some input as to what sort of things they ask and do Thanks
  2. I passed my test 4 years ago and am only just starting to drive! I find it really difficult as i cant tell what others are going to do before they do it, and i also am slow at pulling off at roundabouts etc, i am hoping that with practice i will get better
  3. i didnt vote, i have never voted. i think if i did i would vote lib dem but whats the point they will never beat labour and conservs anyway
  4. good luck with the school, we are at the same stage as you, but although i really dont think my daughter will cope in mainstream all the professionals have said to try it and see how she goes, in a way i wish they would say she needs a special school, as im 99.9999% sure she wont cope in mainstream.
  5. Just wondered if anyone knows much about either of these, i have a feeling the CRISP is only if you live in Birmingham, so others probably wouldnt know. We had my daughters IEP review today and she had a CRISP assessment, and they also wanted to do a high focus review but didnt have the right papers so they will be doing that another time, i know they are to do with how much help she will get when she goes into nursery but what i dont understand is, is it all to do with getting a statement or doenst it neccesarily mean you will get a statement after going through this. She scored 4s and 5s on nearly all of the parts.(0 being the best and 6 the worse) Im not sure if there will be anyone on here who can help but just thought i would ask All we were told is that they are so she can get the help in nursery when she starts in September
  6. I know what you mean. My daughter doesnt really say my name before talking to me, its just we get her to tell us who we all are sometimes to get her used to calling us by our names and that is mostly the time when she might call me any one of the names i put. She will sometimes start saying mum, mum, mum over and over and when i ask her what she wants she will walk away, so she is getting better and starting to realise if she calls me mum then i will respond but still has alot of problems with remembering who i am(or thats how it seems) and also realising when she needs to say my name(well mum, anyway)
  7. What other children with ASD call their mums. My daughter who is 3 next month sometimes callsme mum, sometimes Sarah(my name), sometimes daddy, and even her own name, she has also started to call me Mr Tumble for some strange reason lol. She never calls me by her sisters name and knows her sisters name every time. Just was interested to see what other children call you and if there is ever an age where they have started calling you only mum and not any other names?
  8. It was about 15 months for us, my daughter was just over 18 months when she had her 1st appointment, and was dx last month, she is 3 next month
  9. I didnt want to post on family fund part as i wasnt sure it would get seen, but at end of last month we sent our form, recorded, so i know they have recieved it as i checked on royal mail website, but do you not get any confirmation or anything, or do u just have to wait until they decide to visit or phone?Does anyone know how long is average to wait now?
  10. ok thanks for the help, it is a mainstrem nursery she is going to, i would like her to go to a special school but i am just going to see how she goes on in nursery and then see what the teachers will say as to whether she is progressing or not. Luckily the nursery she is going to i know the staff as my older daughter went there, and they do know my younger 1 has problems but we havent yet told them what her dx is. I have a meeting with them but it is not until July, so i might pop in and have a talk to them and see if they think she will need a statement, as they should eventually be getting a copy of her assessments and then know all her problems. Thanks again for the advice
  11. Im not a teacher but just thought iwould post my bit! My older daughter has recently had some of these spellings: would, could, because, can't, don't and should she is in year 1 and we were told these were year 2 words(so 6or 7 years), but the others i dont know about(maybe im completely wrong but that is the year they told us they are for when she had them)
  12. My daughter was dx with ASD last month, and she is due to start nursery in September, so how do i go about getting a statement, do i need to apply or should i wait until she starts nursery and will they do it?
  13. My daughter, who is 3 next month is also thomas mad, she has so many thomas the tank engines!!! I think it wont be long before there are no others i can get for her!! She will also keep anything with thomas on it(which makes the house a bit of a mess, but when she is not around i can get rid of 1 or 2 of these without her noticing, its just if throw them all that she notices, this is things like magazines, or even the tinyest picture from a magazine, she also has 2 drayton manor leaflets, and she threw it all away except for the thomas part!!) She does love cars aswell but not to the extent of thomas, she has loads of cars but she wont collect magazines of cars or anything like that.
  14. thanks for the advice, how do i know when it is up for renewal? i never knew they might put the care rate down, i think she has more problems now than when we first applied but maybe i would be better to just leave it for now
  15. My daughter currently gets middle rate care of DLA. This was applied for before her diagnosis of ASD, and she is also 3 next month, so i just wondered what i do about telling them and applying for mobility, can i just fill out a new form online and mention she already gets it but i wanted to claim mobility too or do i have to ring them up?
  16. i thought that program on CNN is at 4pm not 5pm...? I looked on CNN last night and it was advertising it for 1600 hrs
  17. With us it is the other way around, and its still really hard! My youngest is the 1 diagnosed with ASD she is 3 in May, the older 1 is 6 this month (NT) and even she doesnt understand that the younger 1 isnt being naughty as such but she doesnt know what is right and wrong. We use a reward chart with both of them, and obviously it is mainly for the NT 1 as she goes up if she is good or down if she is bad, the 1 with ASD also goes up and down if she is good or bad but she obviously doesnt understand, but at least it is making the older 1 feel that they are both being disciplined in the same sort of way even though they are not
  18. i was and still am to some extent like this, i never like to throw things away, but now im not quite as bad because i know if i dont throw some of the things i really really dont need, then hubby will just get everything that he thinks would be rubbish and throw it away, so i have some sort of control over it now(if he wasnt around though my house would be full of all sorts as i wouldnt want to throw anything away)
  19. ...give money for a pushchair? My daughter is nearly 3 and i need a new pushchair for her as hers is nearly 3 years old, and she cant go out without it as she runs off, or does completely the opposite and just stands there and wont move So will they give money for a new pushchair, as i have seen a 3 wheeler which would be good as it is ok until 22 kgs and she is only 14kgs at the moment Has anyone ever asked for 1 before from them and did you get it?

  21. Hi i have heard people talking about getting nappies on the nhs, and was wondering what age you can get them from and how you go about doing it. Do you have to do it through your HV as i dont get on well with her as she has always been trying to tell me im a overprotective mom and am worrying about nothing, when i expressed my concerns to her about dd having ASD, so if there is another way to do it can someone let me know as i dont really want to do it through her
  22. thanks for all your advice, i am going to have to buy her a completely different cup as they only have 1 in the shops that is the same sort of spout on it, and i really dont want this happening again , so i want to get her used to all different cups. I will definatly be trying putting pictures or laminated paper that is the same colour as her old cup, i never even thought of these ideas, but really they are very simple things to do! Thanks again for all the advice, its been a great help
  23. i have got one of those, but she wont touch it, i have tried a few times but she says it is her sisters not hers!!! I would of prefered her to drink from one of them as they are better for when she is at school and that, then she wont look babyish but she just wont have it
  24. Hi Well i thought i would post on here for advice, as my daughter who is 3 in May has never liked changing her beaker, she went until she was 18 months using a bottle, which she would only drink milk from and only used the same type, she would only use the avent 1s, when she was 18 months(we tried before a few times but it was a massive struggle) we decided enough was enough and she wasnt drinking from a bottle anymore, so we eventually, after nearly a week of drinking hardley anything except for bits we could squirt into her mouth before she realised what we were doing we got her to drink from a beaker. She has had this since then(the same 1) and as you can imagine its tatty and has lots of teeth marks in and she could really do with a new 1. Theres 1 big problem though, i went in every shop i could think of to have a look 1 exactly the same and there wasnt 1, i looked on the internet on the website of whose beaker it is and they didnt have any there either so they obviously dont make them like that any more, i also looked on ebay but they had none. So has anyone got any advice on how to get her to drink from a different beaker(if you have had this problem yourself) or will i just have to go days of her not drinking again? She wont drink from a normal cup or glass, and she cant understand how to use a straw, so she is going to need to use a baby/toddler cup. I did try and get her to help me choose her a new cup but she said no to them all, i can find them with the same sort of teet(it looks like a straw but it needs tipping up to drink it) but they are not the same colour as hers so she wasnt interested. She has a bit of speech but not much understanding so i cant really explain it to her as she doesnt know what i mean So any advice on how to go about it would be great
  25. I wondered this too, a few weeks ago, my daughter has just been diagnosed with ASD and she wasnt breathing when she was born, she started breathing a couple of minutes after the birth, i have AS and i also wasnt breathing when i was born, but it could also be that because i have AS that my daughter has autism
