    Colour Change

Nope - not HTML in this case (although it's quite similar). This forum has its own way of allowing its users to change colours in their posts. James
  2. I'm a 25-year-old Aspie male, measuring just a little under 6'0", and weighing around 9st 9lb / 61kg ... read into that whatever you please! James

    any requests

Ah well ... it wasn't to be. (Although I didn't buy a ticket! ) 3 winners sharing the ?126 million jackpot, but none of them coming from the UK. Instead there are one Portuguese and two French people rolling in it. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4676172.stm James

    Just for fun

Back in 2000, when it started, the point of it was a psychological one - to see how different types of people would interact with each other while in a confined space 24/7. Since then, its dramatic surge in popularity has led to it becoming more and more "tabloid" in nature, trying to be sensational and grab large ratings for Channel 4. It's now the biggest show of the year for the money-grabbing executives at C4, as advertisers will pay loads to have their ads shown during Big Brother. That's why each series is getting longer every year. Personally I prefer it with "ordinary" members of the public (and I have little doubt that that's why Chantelle won "Celebrity Big Brother" this year), as you're getting to know them from scratch, along with the rest of the viewing public. Although I can see the attraction of Celebrity Big Brother, as you're seeing celebrities (however far down the alphabet [e.g. "Z-list"] their celebrity may be) having to be themselves, as opposed to just putting on a show, and a fake persona, like they normally do in front of the TV cameras. It's on too much now though. I'm sure I'd continue to enjoy it as much as I used to if I watched all of it, but sacrificing an hour a night for several weeks is too much for me. Maybe I'll watch the launch nights, the final nights, and/or the intermediate eviction nights, but that's usually as far as I'm prepared to go now. Hilarious post! Almost unnervingly realistic too! Yeah - 13 weeks / 4 months / a quarter of a year! Too much, especially now the celebrity version is in full swing these days too. I'd be up for watching it if they restricted it to just the 2 months, like it used to be. That's why I've voted "Take it or leave it" in this poll ... James
  6. Commonwealth Games?!?! Nooooo ... it's the Winter Olympics! You really do need sleep! James
  7. Feel free to send the details of your problem to Microsoft - it won't do you any harm. It might come back with a web page suggesting what the problem might be, and how to resolve it, but in my experience, those pages are useless, and not at all helpful, so I doubt you'd gain much from sending your details to Microsoft. I doubt it's a virus problem, or a fragmentation problem - more likely something like what TuX suggested. So you have two choices ... Try and be patient with Internet Explorer; or Download, install and/or use a different browser, e.g. Firefox, as suggested by MotherEve above, either as your primary browser or just a back-up. James
  8. Believe me - I had put it on the Calendar, but the entry never got approved by an admin or a moderator. See my rant in Techie Corner ... James
  9. I guess not! I suppose I'm neither a parent nor a child, so apparently I'm safe. James
  10. Sorry for getting your gender wrong, punky. *goes to correct the earlier post* But thanks for the clarification. I hope you don't take my earlier criticism personally. James
  11. Your smilies make you look pretty bovered if you ask me! James
  12. I was just thinking about threads that turn into mini-conversations really, rather than one-off posts in lots of threads. Very few people could manage 50 of the latter per day! James
  13. No, it doesn't. All it is is what people with Asperger's are called, as a kind of nickname - for example, I'm an Aspie. I use it regularly, but not for any of the deep reasons people like TuX and Elouise have described! I just use it coz I'm lazy and it's easier to say/type "Aspie" than the alternative! James

    Weird!!

*chuckling at phasmid's very dry sense of humour* In all seriousness(!), I doubt that little feature has anything to do with us. Remember this style of forum appears all over the Internet, and hasn't been custom-made just for us. It's been made by a company that specialises in them - "Invision Power Board" - their links are always at the bottom of each page here. So because they're fairly generic in nature, that's why, when you click on the "Purchase Paid Subscriptions" link, there are no subscriptions available to be selected. James
  15. Well I only said "Asperger's" in my post because punky had in her original post. I was initially going to say "... a parent of someone with an ASD", until I went back to check the quote. James
  16. I got an A in most things. Hmmm ... Mount Carole? Sorry - not getting the pun here. EDIT: Just got it. Very funny. James
  17. Hey! I got an A in GCSE Geography! Got 100% for some of my coursework in that subject too, which I remain very proud of! (Mind you, that was about 10 years ago now. ) James
  18. It's the latter, I'd say. If you click on the "Members" link in the top-right-hand corner of the page, then at the bottom of that page, pick "All Members by Total Posts in Descending Order with 10 results per page" from the relevant menus before clicking on the "Go!" button, you'll see that nellie has made the most posts here, but she's already a "Super Moderator", so her ranking is sorted for life. You're up next in the list though, carole, and I would suggest that the powers-that-be behind the scenes haven't accounted for anyone that's not a moderator making the number of posts you've made! You've gone beyond "Kilimanjaro" status! So you've been defaulted to your username instead! Good one! I reckon you're right on the money there! James
  19. See - this is where the idea of having something like a ranking on a forum can come unstuck. Aspies like microsoft_admin here (I think he's an Aspie anyway! ) want to achieve the highest possible ranking, and find great excitement in that. It's hard to know what should be done about this though, to keep all parties satisfied. Maybe enforce some kind of daily post limit for all users? Say around 50? James

    Guess what?

I saw a flake or two of wet snow falling in Woking yesterday evening, on my way home from London, but that was about it! Who'd've thought, eh? Snow! During the winter! James
  21. Please don't assume everyone here is a parent of someone with Asperger's. It's not very inclusive, and discourages people like me from contributing here. (You're not the only one that does it either.) James
  22. Good idea - I hate it when people don't put their recognised name to a comment they've made ... on other sites, I mean, not this one specifically. Just a suggestion that you should now delete (or at least edit) the pinned "Forum Rules" post on each forum (this is the one on this forum), as they are now out-of-date (missing a rule, and the mention of the 3 new moderators). James

    error messages

Some people are so addicted to this forum that they want to check for new posts here every few seconds. This error is a way of stopping that from happening, and preventing precious (and expensive!) bandwidth from being wasted, by ensuring people wait at least 20 seconds before checking again. James
