karin Report post Posted November 11, 2006 what a week ive had woke up early hours of tuesday with youngest complaining of sore leg rubbed it as i thought it was cramp he got up to go to school limping but by end of day he is not too bad, wednesday goes to school but by end of day limping again gets him home and he cries off and on all nite (even through the nite) phones docs thurs emergency appt see doc next thing sent to hosp with letter for ward, arrives he is in a lot of pain they do blood tests and x-ray of his hip, waits for a bones specialist to see him,he is beeped at 2:00 turns up at 9:00 at nite to tell me they have found a virus in his system but do not know where it is in his body, next day fri has to have x-ray on leg still sore and ultrasoound on his hip they come back clear, bone man says he has a virus (that means they dont know what it is) instead of it coming out of his body it has gone inward and attacked his hip they call it irritable hip syndrome apparantley common in children we now have to wait for blood results as they are doing a blood culture this means they take his blood and grow it in the lab for 24-48 hours to see what transpires, but no antibiotics for him as that will mask whatever problem he has in his body, get home yesterday with him to find out my eldest dd has been laid off of his job ho hum what a week oh well as they say things can only get better karin

keepingmesane Report post Posted November 11, 2006 (((hugs))) that is very similar to what happened with dd1. she was only 11 months old but we were in and out of hosp for two weeks, they eventually did a small op to drain the infection from her left hip and found that she had septic arthritis.. all due to a virus she was fine almost straight away and has no lasting problems
