girl interrupted Report post Posted July 20, 2008 have you ever listened to any songs or read any poems that sum up how you feel or how it feels to care for someone with it? I tend to think "how soon is now" by the smiths or "dear hermoine" by bowie are good examples. whats yours?
Frangipani Report post Posted July 20, 2008 To be honest I am not sure. However, I have heard people mention Kate Bush wrote some songs. But again some others could be more helpful. But I love this song. Some of the words in the song make me wonder when you read between the lines. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Hv0azq9GF_g When I was younger we did ballet to this, and the dance was really cool not to mention the dresses we wore. Hi Jessica, <'> Can you pop the youtube links up to the songs you mention here and above, as I would like to listen to them. Also, some people on here don't know how to do youtube links and I am sure they would love to hear them. There have been a few threads in the past to this, but I cant think of any songs. I remember one by Coldplay but not sure which song it was, on the video there was a robot. This was for more ASD than Aspergers I think. xx
Mumble Report post Posted July 20, 2008 Not sure what pi is. It's a mathematical constant defined as the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, i.e. pi=c/d (or it can also be the ratio of a circle's area to a square defined by the circle's radius). Pi is an irrational number (I wonder if that means I should or should not like it ) and although it has been calculated to a trillion (10 to the power 12) digits, is often truncated to 3.14. Alternatively, pi is apple filled pastry served with ice-cream or custard - Simpsons Maths - Personally, I don't find it one of the most fascinating branches of mathematics - now Fibonacci sequences on the other hand ... baddad Report post Posted July 20, 2008 Pi - yep, extremely 'autie' but many of her other songs have that sort of introspective 'noodly' quality about them, and the subject matter is often very off-the-wall and 'visual thinking'... Hounds of Love is almost all like that - minute details in intense focus etc... Counting Backwards by Throwing Muses (though I know that's about KH's Schizophrenia, so maybe that's why?) - and lots of other KH tracks are about obsession... darky Report post Posted July 20, 2008 This is going to sound really stupid one song makes me think of my son. He loves music so much. When he was diagnosed, I heard this song and it just seemed to fit with his passive personality. I cried buckets. Silly I know. Flashdance, what a feeling. First, when there's nothing but a slow glowing dream That your fear seems to hide deep inside your mind All alone I have cried silent tears full of pride In a world made of steel, made of stone Well I hear the music, close my eyes, feel the rhythm Wrap around, take a hold of my heart [Chorus:] What a feeling, bein's believin' I can't have it all, now I'm dancin' for my life Take your passion, and make it happen Pictures come alive, you can dance right through your life [solo] Now I hear the music, close my eyes, I am rhythm In a flash it takes hold of my heart [chorus (with ... "now I'm dancing through my life")] What a feeling What a feeling (I am music now), bein's believin' (I am rhythm now) Pictures come alive, you can dance right through your life What a feeling (I can really have it all) What a feeling (Pictures come alive when I call) I can have it all (I can really have it all) Have it all (Pictures come alive when I call) (call, call, call, call, what a feeling) I can have it all (Bein's believin') bein's believin' (Take your passion, make it happen) make it happen (What a feeling) what a feeling... baddad Report post Posted July 20, 2008 AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Feinites! Pax!! FOUL!!!! Referee!!!! I'm not sure what that is - dirty dancin' or flashdance - but no matter how much it reminds you of you littlun there can be absolutely NO excuse for slipping Chick-Flick mawk under the fence when nobody's looking! What next 'Wind beneath my wings'? 'My heart will go on?' I'm off to have a shower... i feel kinda 'soiled' somehow (and no, I didn't have a very hot curry last night ) Disclaimer: Not knocking Chick Flicks, or their fans, or the emoshuns expressed in them... i just think there's a time and place... The time - now... the place room 101 NB_ what is interesting is the word association (football) element of this post... you heard this song when he was diagnosed, and it stayed with you to remind you of him... Just as well they didn't play 'Ernie, the fastest milkman in the west' you'd have a hard job explaining the floods of tears the next time that came on in B&Q! bid Report post Posted July 20, 2008 This is part of a poem about having AS, and perfectly sums up how autism effects my interaction with the rest of the world at a core level. Doesn't mean I'm unhappy all the time, or anything, just this is me in the NT world. to live is the most difficult thing for me to others it comes naturally like breathing for me i must fight an uphill battle just to exist without falling in on myself (from How I Feel Tonight, Mary Margaret Britton Yearwood)

darky Report post Posted July 22, 2008 Left outside alone by Annastacia has deep meanings for me in relation to how I feel and the relationship I had with my mother. She never "got me" at all I know this song relates to a man, but it hits a nerve for me every time I hear it. All my life I've been waiting For you to bring a fairytale my way Been livin in a fantasy without meaning It's not okay I don't feel safe I Don't Feel Safe Oohhh Left broken empty in despair Wanna breathe can't find air Thought you were sent from up above But you and me never had love So much more I have to say Help me find a way And I wonder if you know How it really feels To be left outside alone When it's cold out here Well maybe you should know Just how it feels To be left outside alone To be left outside alone I'll tell you All my life I've been For you to bring a fairytale my way Been living in a fantasy without meaning It's not okay I don't feel safe I need to pray Why do you play me like a game? Always someone else to blame Careless, helpless little man Someday you might understand There's not much more to say But I hope you find a way Still I wonder if you know How it really feels To be left outside alone When it's cold out here Well maybe you should know Just how it feels To be left outside alone To be left outside alone I'll tell you All my life I've been waiting For you to bring a fairytale my way Been living in a fantasy without meaning It's not okay I don't feel safe I need to pray oohhh ohhh Pray! Heavenly father please save me (heavenly father Save me!) oohhh oohhhh ohh And I wonder if you know How it really feels To be left outside alone (im outside alone and you know it) When it's cold out here Well maybe you should know Just how it feels To be left outside alone To be left outside alone Oohhhhh ohhhh All my life I've been waiting For you to bring a fairytale my way Been living in a fantasy without meaning Oh! It's not okay I don't feel safe I need toooo praayy!

Frangipani Report post Posted July 25, 2008 Hi GI I was driving around today and heard this song, and thought about this thread you started. I just feel as a parent and having friends on the spectrum I think this song sums it up to be honest. Its the friends and family in your life that are there for you no matter what that take you as you are AS NT or whatever. We all have our flaws, but, those that accept us as we are faults and all are the ones I call friends. When you are having a hard day songs like this set things in concrete, or make it clearer, what is really important in life, and that is those we love, friends and family. Not a label. Just being there for each other. Through the good times and the bad times. So after my waffle here is that song. I have always found this song makes me feel happy, strong and connected with people. Or forgiving of those that have totally p xxxx d me off. iykwim. <'> <'> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAH98lG1wXs...feature=related Never give up, just always keep putting one foot in front of the other, and you just keep getting there.
