What an absolute twit I am. I was just thinking the other day that I thought I had ordered some DVD's off amazon and it was strange that they hadn't come...just about to buy something now and it sent me a message saying that there two other things in my basket...I forgot to buy it!!!! I do worry about myself!!

:wallbash:

Useless bit of information for you but hey ho!

If half the people did this when they'd finished shopping...and came back after having eaten, slept, or whatever...most people would probably not buy half of what they picked up to start with.

It can be a wise thing to do - to save the items and come back and then buy them if they still want them. Too many people buy things they don't need and during the recession careful shopping can be quite saving!

Thats the best way to make a mistake.

A year ago I was building my dream triathlon bike on a website I use a lot. I use it so much I have a platinum account with them, and it is set up for one click purchasing for ease.

I was using the basket as a holding space to swop and change items around a bit. The final cost of the bike was around the £7800 mark. The next day I got an e-mail appologising that 3 of the items were not in stock, did I want the main order to be dispatched or for them to wait a week or so untill everything was all there. Out of habit I had hit the purchase button to close the screen down and there was enough credit on the card I use to make the purchase.

I have to admit the temptation to say wait till its all there and plead innocence with my partner was a massive temptation. I would honstly have given myself a 75% chance that i would have been allowed to keep the stuff, they say love is blind, I would have been in the dog house for a week or so, but it would have been worth it, built up it was a pretty special bike.

I had to say I am sorry about this but I made a mistake, they were nice about it and refunded my credit card, and have even kept a note of the bikes specification should I change my mind. To be honest there is no point in them doing so because some better stuff has come out this year current estimate for my dream bike is now at the £8600 mark, as I have said to my partner the sooner she lets me go ahead with the purchase the more money she will save in the long run, somehow she hasn't worked that one out yet.

And then you have you on the extreme end of the scale  and there's me struggling to justify 200-300 quid for a new bike next year - and I really am struggling to justify it - and what's worse is I haven't got a clue what to get because the choices are so limited and boring.... :D

I have no online access to cash - well - not to my own cash anyway - but last time I was on amazon I got permission from a family member to use their debit card and then was gonna transfer the cash in later - and I pressed the wrong person's card on Amazon and ended up grovelling for a couple of days

Good job they had cash in their account!!

Not having access to cash online is such a good thing.

I am in the stupid position of having a platinum account and credit cards which gives me all sorts of benefits but the credit limit on the card is something stupid like £15,000 grand if not more. The fact that I get about £20 a week on benefits doesn't seem to affect their view because my credit rating is so high. The only reason my credit rating is so good is because I used to buy lots of things on my card and was always able to pay them off pretty quickly.

Banks and financial credit ratings really is a fools paradise. The daft thing was when i went to university and wanted a card with no overdraft and a £100 a week withdrawl limit in case I lost it the bank couldn't do it for me, how stupid is that.

I could enter my card details, but I opted to annoy 4 people by having theirs on my computer instead - they obviously trust me  the useful thing is it makes me think twice about anything I want to order - although I reduce that chance in the first place by not going on such sites unless I actually need something - it is mildly annoying having to phone people to check if they have funds and then setting up a transfer - but it's worth it in the long run.

As for credit cards, I refuse to have one, if I had one of those on the wrong day I could do some damage - especially when it comes to obsessional interests... it's all like a trap isn't it? Those things encourages people to spend today and worry about paying some time in the future - and whenever I do it I resent having to pay afterwards - I'd rather save up and pay cash and I try to do so most of the time, unless something vital breaks or the cat or dog requires veterinary care - but even I'm human and do give in to temptation at times - but I always limit those things according to my finances and realistic payment times...

However, not everyone can do that - I'd rather go without than get into debt and then be forced to go without even more I guess - and because I've gone without a lot and not always because of my failings either - I am very motivated to be firm with finances :)

Brilliant story LancsLad!

Your bike reminds me of when I started buying expensive pro camera gear - cameras/lenses etc. Each lens had a specific purpose for which I could justify its purchase but I never told my wife the exact price - although she knew the equipment wasn't amateur gear. Most of the lenses I do use, but one or two are more specialist lenses that I don't use often enough but want to keep as I laid out the expense. They would be more expensive to buy now of course which is the other reason for keeping them.
