helenl53 Report post Posted February 21, 2006 PP - It is far too loose and vague. Certain 'misinterpretable' words. Also I believe (but don't quote me) that LEA's must quantify provision (time wise) and not just apply blanket funding bands. IPSEA or NAS can help. You need to go through all the reports that have been prepared including your own and pick out all the needs that are identified and then pick out the provision to meet those need The rule of thumb is - what is the need, what provision is required to meet the need, who will deliver the intervention or provision, what specialist knowledge or training is required to be able to deliver this provision, and how often and for how long. You have to imagine that you could timetable your daughters day from the information that you have seen on the statement Hope this helps HelenL
LKS Report post Posted February 22, 2006 PP have to agree with Helen. Nas or Ipsea need to talk you through this step by step. There are a few things that I noticed but there are probably many more I haven't ! In the communication section they mention face to face if necessary. I hate the word if necessary in statements, who decides this is it the SALT. Under personal social and emotional social skills programme, how often will this happen who will devise this programme, access (another woolly word) to regular ( )adult assistance when required! don't like any of that access in what ways, regular says who , adult assistance (are we talking specialist teacher L.S.A) when required. Again who will decide this. If you think little p requires daily 1:1 assitance and for how long this should go in. Physical and sensory, individual learning programme, what, when, how often, support and advice from the support service how often termly, twice termly, once a year, how often will this be reviewed. Sorry PP I have probably confused you more Also if she has problems with writing this should really be included somewhere because the statement needs to show how they will address this, same if there are any problems with reading or numeracy. I believe statements have got to be so clear that it is obvious to any professional etc. who looks at it exactly what is supposed to be happening. I have to say though I haven't quite got there with my children's statements yet.
jen Report post Posted February 22, 2006 There needs additional information such as LEA trained in..................... It vague as who is providing the finance because the LEA should provide it irrespective of how it is given out by the LEA. You need to recheck the reports on your child and make sure the childs currect problems are in part 2 then provision to meet that in part 3. It took me 2 whole days to check my childs report and identify what was and was not in the statement. Check the toolkit it has examples in I think its section 7. Does this statement accurately describe your childs difficulties and the provision needs. Speak to IPSE. You should of had a letter stating if you do not agree you have the right to meet with the LEA officer to discuss the proposed statement. I would write the letter saying you want to meet and in the meantime check reports contact IPSEA seek a friendly representative who can accompany you. We are currently going to tribunal with our finalised statement. Jen
