LKS Report post Posted March 3, 2006 Because of my joy reading the news-letter from school, have only just found a letter from the head in dd's bag. This is because on the 21st Feb. I handed in to the school a form to be completed by a member of staff that works closely with dd (L.S.A. I presumed) It was from a consultant at GOSH and was to do with auditory processing. It was quite a simple form (I had to do one for home) in which the adult had to tick boxes comparing dd's responses to other children of her age e.g. does she have more trouble than her peers at following instructions. They were then asked to draw a very simple diagram on the back to show dd's position in class(Where she usually sits)This really should have taken no more than 10 mins. max. I have asked the LSA 3 times for it now and she has told me that she has completed it but it is with the senco as she wishes to add something to it, she is off today. Anyway head has sent me a letter stating I understand from Mrs. *****(senco) that you have requested some data from us. We hope to have this ready by the end of next week, since it will also require some narrative for contextualisation purposes. (what the $%^?& does that mean) However I would be grateful in the meantime if you can update us, both to the role played by Dr. ******** in *****'s treatment and as to why a plan has been requested. I'm sorry but I think the way he words things just really winds me up. It states very clearly on the form that it is a questionnaire for auditory processing problems, and I'll be blowed if I'm going to discuss what part the consultant plays in her treatment. I am also not willing to wait until the end of next week as that will be 17 days and it is holding up the info I am able to send off.
LKS Report post Posted March 3, 2006 Can someone explain what narrative for contextualisation purposes means. Having achieved a very basic secondary education don't understand what this means.
phasmid Report post Posted March 3, 2006 They want to explain where it took place, when and the reason behind the lesson being observed. They don't want ten minutes being looked at in isolation to the rest of the lesson. HTH
jen Report post Posted March 3, 2006 I would write back to the head teacher saying the consultant is accessing her auditory function within different settings and situations. When he has the data and comes up with any advice or diagnosis you will let the school know. Also the consulatant would like the information by.................... LKS Report post Posted March 4, 2006 Thanks for explaining that Phas. He makes me feel so thick sometimes, even in conversations I don't always know what he's talking about The questions on the form are not really observations of a particular lesson for example. If required to recall spoken information, this child has difficulty hearing and understanding compared to other children of similar age and background. There are then a set of boxes ranging from 1-7 starting at less difficulty and ending with can't funtion. The LSA has filled them in as she knows how dd performs in class. I think the HT and senco are being ###### awkward again. I am returning all of the bits I am supposed to do to GOSH and will say that the school have been unable to complete their part. Thanks jen that is a good way of putting it in writing. I must add that in this letter were also the phrases summative evaluations, authoritative recommendations and substansive to name but a few
LKS Report post Posted March 9, 2006 After finally speaking to the H T on Monday about this ###### form he confirmed that it has been completed and he has told SENCO to give it to me. I explained dd was off and another parent would collect it for me on Tuesday morning. Parent went to Senco who told her I have already posted it H T assures me he told SENCO to actually hand it over to named parent. He said well never mind it has gone first class post so it should be with you on Wednesday. Not here Wed. Not here Thurs School are not returning my calls now. Is it me or don't they like me
LKS Report post Posted March 10, 2006 Phoned school Thursday afternoon again finally spoke to secretary and told her I would be in on Friday to pick up a copy. I asked if they could have it ready for me as I would be bringing dd with me who is still unwell Secretary has phoned me today and said please don't come in to school as the HT is off and so is the SENCO and I have no idea which form you are talking about As I've said before this a simple ###### form that GOSH needed in order for us to progress to the next level of assessment. The consultants secretary said if I received it today I could phone her with the info. then we would be able to make an appt. next week. Well it's too ###### late now I'm so furious as I think school have been purposely awkward.
Brook Report post Posted March 10, 2006 It's a shame the consultants secretary couldn't give the school a ring. They need a kick up the a**e! Brook
phasmid Report post Posted March 10, 2006 Brook may have a good idea there LKS. Phone GOSH and ask them if they would phone the school. This simply isn't good enough.
LKS Report post Posted March 10, 2006 Thanks brook. I thought what a good idea why didn't I think of that Gosh secretary said of course she wouldn't mind phoning the school. She had to give her number so that the school secretary could phone her back. School sec. said she was very sorry but the Senco does not work Fridays anf the HT was out of school today at meetings. Unfortunately she did not know which form Mrs. ***** was referring to and she had been unable to contact anyone to help her. Well I give up now It's going to have to wait until Monday. Hopefully dd will be back at school and I shall stand in the office until they give me a ###### copy. I know I've turned into a cynical beast over the years but I can't help wondering whether the school have been deliberately awkward here. They haven't been pleased with the thought of us persuing the auditory processing route and agreed with the EP that we were in danger of over diagnosing dd It is not something (and I keep telling them this) that I have pushed for but something that the neurlogist at GOSH wants investigating, but I'm sure the senco knows best
CarerQuie Report post Posted March 10, 2006 Yes,as a result of her years of medical training!!!xx
phasmid Report post Posted March 10, 2006 Over-diagnosis!!! What utter rubbish! For crying out loud, since when has there been a limit on the number of difficulties a child can have? Sorry but if there is a problem there then it needs to be investigated, identified and addressed. If the SENCO doesn't like that the school now have the number of the specialist at GOSH - perhaps they can have a chat about it!
Brook Report post Posted March 10, 2006 At least they now know that GOSH is eager to have this form back otherwise the secretary wouldn't have called them. It might be the jolt they need. Brook
LKS Report post Posted March 11, 2006 When I turned on the computer this morning there was an e-mail from head I thought I'd share it with you. I am sorry to hear that the Royal Mail has so far been unable to deliver a letter which was sent directly to you 1st class on Tues. 7th March. I would not have been able to supply you with a copy of this form as firstly I would have been unsure as to whether a copy had been kept and also because Mrs. *****(senco) keeps all such confidential correspondance in her locked filing cabinet. It is not our usual habit to make copies of profile forms since these are meaningless without the template. Also usually such forms are sent directly from the doctor concerned to be returned to them. I must say this current procedure differs markedly from what we are used to. However because Mrs. ***** had finally decided to send it to you because *** has not been in school fortunately she did make a copy, which she will make available to you first thing Monday morning. What a complete load of c**p. 'firstly' I cannot beleive a school would not make copies of all correspondance regarding their children. This ###### form does not need a ###### template. It explains certain situations and how a child might react. It is self explanitory(sp) Well bully for the senco how marvellous that she made a copy which she will make available to me. The reason that the form did not go direct to the school was the consultant gave them to me so that I could explain what was needed (although as I've said it was pretty clear) and everything including my bits could be sent off together. Do I gather from this as well that the school have in the past received forms concerning children from hospitals and they haven't copied the parents There was also no mention about the phone call from Gosh, perhaps the secretary had forgot to mention it It ended with a paragraph as to how postmen have been known to just dump letters and he trusts this is not what has happened in my case
annie Report post Posted March 11, 2006 I think you should send a copy of the letter to the Guinness Book of Records. It looks like they are going for the record of the 'most excuses in one e-mail/letter'.
LKS Report post Posted March 11, 2006 think you could be right annie. I need some help to word a suitable reply now. Seems a bit suspicious that senco knew how much i needed this form and it never arrived
annie Report post Posted March 11, 2006 My suggestion - Dear Mr/Mrs *****, I have noted your reasons (excuses ) for the delay in my receiving the requested form. I am now pleased to inform you that it's mysterious disappearance has now been solved..........it was the tooth fairy. Yours sincerely, Mrs S Claus. Second thoughts, they'd probably take it seriously . Seriously, I hope you get your hands on the form first thing Monday morning . Annie xx
LKS Report post Posted March 11, 2006 tee hee thanks annie
LKS Report post Posted March 13, 2006 Senco comes trotting up to me in the playground smiling and waving a brown envelope about. She said I did send it to you honestly Wish there was a smilie with a long nose. There is also a report attached to the form in which she goes into lengthy discussion about how much support dd receives in class, which wasn't really required, and that she sits where she does because of her daily and regular( ) access to the computer cue smilie with long nose again Still at least I have it now. First prize to the school for most exscuses and delaying tactics.
Brook Report post Posted March 13, 2006 Looks like your persistence paid off. I wonder what story the kids are having today, erm, let me try and guess, erm PINOCHIO (sp?) Brook
Kathryn Report post Posted March 13, 2006 Well done for persisting! You might want to drop a line to let the school know about the recorded delivery system next time they have to send something to anyone. With all these rogue postmen dumping mail they can't be too careful! K
Hectorshouse Report post Posted March 13, 2006 Well done for sticking at it LKS, and keep an eye out for dumped piles of letters randomly appearing in a door way near you!! HHxx
LKS Report post Posted March 13, 2006 thanks all I shall be keeping an eye out for those awful postmen that refuse to deliver letters. I told senco I've made enquiries at sorting office to see if there is an undelivered letter there. I asked her what time was the letter sent and was it franked, she blustered and umhed and aahed can't wait til she goes
