  1. Thanks for that J`smum, could have written it myself not so long ago!!!! how are things with you? we are mainly "coping" due to meds and careful handling, but still a minefield some days.
  2. Hi, I have the cards for DS, the "this young person has autism" ones, have used them twice with good effect, once when he was laying on the road... and once when he unexpectedly freaked out on an escalator!
  3. sadly yes, lots of my family are nervous of DS, shame but understandable
  4. I always leave withheld numbers, screen them, they will leave a message if important. I hate people turning up unannounced, they could at least text first.
  5. I used to agree with the non drug appraoch too, but now its a no brainer for us, we drug him, or he kills us or himself. simple as that.
  6. hi, been gone myself for a bit, but back for a look see!!

  9. Lovely news. so pleased to hear after the trials he put you through, my eldest, 21, also just started work, took him longer then yours to sort himself out, but he did it in the end!!!
  10. Hi, not been on the forum for a while but I remember your story. My son, 14 now, has been on respidone for "behaviour" ie, violent/aggressive/self harm etc etc for at least 2 years, the effect on him had been dramatic, we lowered it recently, I was unhappy with him being on it long term, the result was an appalling series of violent incidents last november, he is now on 4 mgs a day, which is high but without it we/him cannot cope.
  11. I!m done, for all 4 kids and family/friends, did it early and nearly paid off!!!! we have a new puppy, as my old dog sadly died in the summer, so tree is not going up till the last possible day I can get away with it....... Enid

  13. Hi, mine definately has mental health issues, it started at about age 11 to 12, with the onset of puberty. although at the time they, Cahms, would not have it, they are now of the opinion it is early onset childhood bi polar. resperidone saved us, literally, as my sons bizarre behaviour put him and us at risk, He still takes meds for his ADHD, straterra, and there dosnt seem to be any side effects. the biggest side effect with the resperidone is the weight gain, but for us it was a no brainer. Now his behaviour is "under control" I am able to address his diet. feel free to pm as there is a lot I cant say on an open forum. <'> Enid
