  1. Ah bless I liked the fact that they were in a relationship, sweet! I hope my son grows up to have a nice relationship like that (not that I would let him ... or that any woman would ever be good enough for him mind!)
  2. I've seen my son occasionally do the one where he pulls kind of a long face mouth open etc - usually when he feels he is being watched (in the school play etc) sometimes accompanied with fast blinking. He used to do a stim where he licked his fingers and ran them down each side of his nose but that stopped ... I am hoping that the other tics will too.
  3. Yeah I am the same Faye ... I asked about the separate jabs and the immediate response was "well we don't do them and you won't get them done around here or in London (I live in Staines)!" and it will cost you "hundreds of pounds" ... again, it is down the knowledge of the individual at the Health Centre ... just telling you what she herself has been told to say. Even though I have had numerous chats with them about my 15 month old not getting it done .. they still keep ringing me and giving me the guilt trip. I just can't take the risk.
  4. My son can have smarties and they have no effect on him whatsoever ... However, give him one of those smarties push up lollies and he goes completely crazy, absolutely do-lally and hyper, shouting, screaming etc. (normally he is very reserved and well behaved). He had loads of smarties eggs too ... shame he doesn't react ... I could eat them if he did!
  5. My son (age 5) has high functioning autism.
  6. Let's just say - she's 'different' ... I could add that she is two faced, not the best mother in the world and likes to expand the truth but that could be seen as cruel.
  7. James Hetfield - Metallica is probably my fave, I could do a top list and will ponder on that .. will be all heavy metal though cos I'm a total rock chick!!!
  8. What do you get for 1000 posts then?? Surely there is some sort of reward system in place? ... now go and get a life woman! lol.
  9. Thanks everyone, I only just found this post, but it made me smile!!!!
  10. .. and baby oil is fab in a stainless steel sink as nothing sticks to it, just rub some on after you've done your washing up and leave it. Hmm baby oil and latex gloves - kinky!
  11. Just don't be afraid to try it again, even though your previous tries were unsuccessful. My son was out of them just before he turned 4 and I never thought he would be. In the end, I had to dedicate 2 weeks to just taking him to the toilet, sitting him on it with a book, reading to him, singing to him, writing social stories, getting the Potty Time video - everything!! He eventually cracked it much to my disbelief ...! I was so stressed about it all the time, I was afraid to try it, especially with a new cream carpet down!!! I think he knew I was stressed and it made him worse and he began to get upset about it. Also he noticed the other children going to the toilet at playschool and it made him wonder why. Stickers worked, rewards worked, a potty didn't work, pull up nappies didn't work! He went straight on the toilet, with one of those cushioned seats from mothercare and he needed the reassurance of having his feet on the stool as he sat there, rather than having his legs dangling. I made up two very silly songs, one for a wee and one for a poo with actions (yes I am slightly insane) but they worked! Give it a go again, he might not be ready ... but it might make him more ready for the next time you try. We are now in the process of trying to getting to pee standing up but it's not going so well.
  12. Oh no - I hate these programmes, always living in fear that someone in my family will watch it and relate it to my son .... and I am so not ready for them to know yet.
  13. What a silly cow! Yeah go and see someone else and make a point of telling her that you have done!!! People just don't understand do they? Good luck with getting him sorted out.
  14. Hmm the vonteuse failed on mine (it came off his head and stuck to my thigh making it non sterile) they then used forceps - poor kid! I would be interested to hear of any research. When I was 36 weeks pregnant I had a routine scan and the sonographer checked his brain and they said that my son had too much fluid in the ventricular horns in his brain but it would go down, I had another scan at 38 weeks and they just said everything was fine. I often wonder whether that was something to do with it and the hospital were glossing over something. Who knows?? Would be interested to see any feedback on this though, although if it did come back as evidence I would blame myself for not trying harder to give birth and them having to resort to forceps.
  15. I went on Saturday - and one of the boat rides broke down with us on it!!! Nightmare!!!! DS coped fine, bless him! However .. it was fab, the exit system is top banana!!! Just for those who wondered, I don't think there is that much for the older kids there ... kids between 3 and 8 get the most out of it, older children and the under 2's are not catered for all that much but there are a couple of bigger roller coasters now. I mean traditional coasters, there are no rides that take you upside down or endanger your life etc!!! Legoland is for little kids. Chessington World of Adventures for middle kids. Thorpe Park for bigger kids. I live close by, count me in!! I will hold all your handbags, pushchairs etc ... cos I'm too chicken to go on anything!!!
  16. Just discussed this on another thread - the one where that boy died of measles .. the first case of death from measles in 14 years (he lived on a gypsy camp and had an already weakened immune system). I think it made people panic, but you have to put it into perspective ... like how many children have died of a common cold in the last 14 years, thousands probably. Many children have measles and mumps and are fine (I had both as a child). Personal choice indeed and it is a tough decision to make. My son had his MMR at 16 months, I had heard of autism at that point but didn't know what it was so we did the old "it won't affect us so we will get him injected like everyone else because we should" - pah! Two months later and it all went pear shaped ... and unfortunately I had to learn about what autism was (and I so wish I had known before). I declined his booster at age 4 (much gasping from the nurse at the health centre). His brother who is 15 months old and so far NT is going absolutely nowhere near the needle. We are taking a risk but it is very calculated. If he is still NT at 4 years old, we may let him have the injection before he starts school, if enough evidence is around to support our decision at that time. Difficult to know who to believe, thalidomide was once a wonder drug and Doctors were still in denial about it having caused birth defects for some time (idiots!) Has there been enough research into MMR - no! Are there people on this forum who believe that their child has autism because of the MMR jab - yes! No smoke without fire?? Are we just paranoid? Who knows? Just don't let the health professionals bully you into making the decision for yourself, they don't have all the facts, they are going by what they are told to say, not what they know and they are giving you the worst case scenario all the time. Ask them what fillers are in the injections and what the exact contents are .. that may tell you how much they actually know about what they are about to stab into your childs arm. The truth is out there!
  17. Following on from that, I am going to write a social story about sharing - if it works I'll let you know!
  18. Lol I am going through just the same - my 5 year old keeps snatching and taking whatever his 15 month old brother is playing with. My 15 month ends up screaming, I end up screaming at the 5 year old - and he argues back. He seems to like playing with the toddlers toys more than his own - and likes the fact he has power and dominance over his brother. He is normally well behaved and mild mannered, and I hope he is not doing the same at school. The other issue I have is the other way around ... my eldest plays with Happyland - gets it all set up, the village vet, the coffee shop etc. all meticulously placed where they should be ... and then my youngest walks in and totally destroys it, and walks off with some of it ... then warfare begins. Eldest won't play with it anymore, he gets bored and says "I can't do anything Mummy" so I have to drop whatever I am doing and play something with him, whilst the little one is out of the way sleeping etc. He's also become really whiney since he started school and it drives me mad. I just put this down to general sibling behaviour with an added ASD twist, and I am hoping he grows out of it ...soon! What joy the Easter holiday brings!
  19. Great! We live close by so have annual passes. The carer and exit system works really well .... but they like you to contact them in advance for a carers pass and you need to take some form of evidence that your child has had a DX (just for those who are thinking of going). We'll be there on Saturday!
  20. Actually that came out more negatively than I wanted it to, I will take all that back, Sorry!
  21. But this was the first fatality in 14 years ... put that into perspective!! How many children have died with a common cold in the last 14 years - thousands!!! Measles is still very rare these days, very few are opting out of the MMR. I know of loads of people who have had measles and mumps in infancy and have been fine - I'm one of them. Yes I know there are others that haven't been fine, but they are the minority. My ASD son had his MMR at 14 months, but I declined the booster. My other son who is 15 months won't be having it unless I am sure he is NT .. then he can have it at 4 just before he starts school. Personal choice. Just wanted to put a different opinion across.
  22. My Mum lives in Skeggy! A lot of the hotels are your usual standard old B&B type places, they seem to lack hotels with any finesse. Did you try the Tourist Info Service? What about Butlins ... self catering? There are zillions of caravans there too (but expensive!) Let me phone my Mum and get back to you with some hotels.
  23. I think we all do it because we know the trigger words (like my friend told me her child loves things that spin ... and everytime I see him now I am watching him to see if he has other traits). I am watching my younger son the same - actually I just posted a notice about walking on toes ... and then I read your post, spooky! Lets face it we all have some kind of traits, ways of doing things or some such and apparently it is common to find children with one or two of the things on the triad of impairments, who can't meet the third criteria and are therefore not diagnosed - or even assessed. If that sounded negative, it wasn't meant to ... I have just written an article on the traits of the autistic spectrum found in under 5 year olds, to try and raise awareness of the importance of early diagnosis and intervention.
