  1. hi was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a dry itchy scalp its driving r mad theres no visitors in his hair ive checked ,ive tried numerous dry scalp shampoos and tried rubbing oil on his head if i can catch him before washing his hair, have big trouble with washing hair putting things on his hair a he's terrified of anything going in his ears
  2. hi just wanted to let everyone know that if your child is interested in castles and you live in wales or are going to visit you can gain fre entry to castles owned by CADW(they look after some of the historic sites in wales) they do not display this on the board outside the attractions, well not the one we visited "caerphilly castle"but having looked at their website before hand it is mentioned there that it is free entry for disabled peple along with a carer offered proof of r's disability but they didnt want to look at it just accepted what i said that he was autistic thought this might be useful for those of you who like me has a child who loves museums and castles cheap couple of hours out
  3. hi bike mad i didnt hve social worker till the mum of autistic boy in my sons class told me she had one for him and about the things they can help you with. What i did then was ring up social worker and told them i wanted to "self refer" they said theyd come out and decide if i was entitled to a s worker for r it didnt take them long to decide that we could have one(r not having good day when they came to see us ), as well as disabled badge have had toilet put in for r downstairs he has obsession with toilet ,also they were able to refer us to learning support nurse who comes out to see us regularly and does some work with r on his anxiety and obsessions hope this some helps pm me if you want any futher info good luck <'>
  4. hi bikemad ive had a badge for r for past 3 years its made such a difference ,can park nearer shops, stop on double yellow to use shops etc when hes with me. Also can save you money in certain car parks make sure you check the notice boards, dont feel guilty i did at first but found life so much easier since had ours , i live in wales like you and i asked social worker to sort it out i just had to pay �2 and supply a current picture of r good luck
  5. i im looking for a shampoo shield for r whose 11 he would need an adult size one he wouldnt tolerate those elasticated ones he hates water in eyes but more obsessed about getting water in ears we usually manage with him holding flannel on each ear and me shampooing hair for him its not ideal
  6. ID LIKE A FRIEND FOR R TOO, SOMEONE WHO HE COULD SEE ON A REGULAR BASIS AND ACCEPT HIM FOR WHO HE IS ID ALSO LIKE A PLACE TO TAKE HIM TO ENJOY SOME LEISURE TIME/FUN THAT WOULDN'T BE FULL OF STARING PEOPLE AND WOULD HAVE UNDERSTANDING LEADERS ,WORKERS AHH IF ONLY
  7. welcome jannih it must have been very tough for you growing up not knowing why you acted differently to everyone else my heart goes out to you <'> <'> <'> i have son with asd been diagnosed 7 years and even now members of close family have trouble understanding his social problems push gp to refer you for assesment and get diagnosis and i would try to get job thats less stressful fo you if possible public dont understand conditions they cannot see is there any support groups in your area? stay with this forum its great for support my best wishes go out to you ope thing get better for you soon
  8. hi been on cipralex for about 5 years now know i couldnt cope without them struggled for about a year panic attacks crying worrying all time had to give in in the end and take them glad i did they help keep my mood even most of time i,m on my own with autistic son 11yrs old love him to bits have v little support dont know how id keep going without them best bit of advice someone gave me be kind to yourself dont worry if house not tidy try to relax do something to help yourself chill out read listen to music etc when child will let you helps to keep anxiety levels dowm take care everyone be good to yourselves <'> <'>
  9. have mixed emotions at moment r leaving asd unit to go to special school glad hes going there its great school but its like leaving a part of your family behind r has been with asd unit from age 4 to now 11yrs and they have been bril to him and me made tea for me and time to chat when going through the roller coaster of getting diagnosis and accepting he has autism will miss them but know he needs to move on know new school is right fo him
  10. hi my son has phobia of flies as well we nearly crashed last year when large blue bottle flew in car and settled on his leg started screaming hysterically luckily was shorty distance away frm somewhere to stop people by house nearby thought he was hurt came running over to help we found a fly gun last summer they really good can kill fly straight away when it lands you can buy them on ebay and gadgets 4 you hes also got venus fly trap in his room just in case they dare to go in there hope this some help 4 u also u can buy fly sreen material u cut to size ive bought it to fit over bathroom window stops them coming in hope this some help take care

  12. hi annie bean r was more like your L till about a year ago quieter wouldnt look at people but this last year hes much worse i know hormones are probably playing a part as well as change to new school trouble is its really hard when they intelligent but unable to interact socailly like most others thats why trying to set up a club so can have leisure time away from stares ,people who invade his space etc .one possitive thing that should happen soon for us is that we are going to have small space in house converted into chillout sensory room padded walls calming music ligh show etc O T is organising for us somewhere for him to go when close to overload think i,ll be in there when he at school rocking back and for only joking, could you see about something like this for L place for him to go when his senses getting overloaded Does he have area to go at scool to chill cos i know mine uite quiet at school but it expldes like firework when he gets home tink they have to release stress when get home we so lucky to have thi pleasure take care
  13. for sure annie obsessed about people looking at him of course people will look when he's shouting and being agressive ,cant get this through to him though. he want to go places but doesnt want others to be ther ahh if only could win loto could be like stars and have places opened just for us ohh what bliss that would be, is yours in special school mine been in autistic unit for 7 years transfering to special school from sept visits going well fingers crossed

  16. hi all thanks for the warm welcome and suggestions will have to try st -----near capital havent been for years lets pray for fine day put off train for while took him at xmas with friend and her children not to bad on way reserved seat thank god melt down narrowly avoidedbut made up for it on return as lost the pen to the hand held electronic game (you know the one )major major meltdown wholetrain starring making comments etc i had major job to keep him seated till our stop major nightmare ps 10 of those pens in my purse now at all times

  18. hi i new here great site just woundering how others manage on weekends school hols i have 11 year old autistic son who likes to go places do things but the usual problems occur melt down cos to busy ,people looking at him queues ,noise ,not exactly as last visit etc perfect recipe for meltdown he now almost as tall as me and is as strong as me . have just sent off pile of letters to councillors, disabilities group and anyone else can think of to see if i can get a building along with staff trained in autism to run a weekly club for autistic kids in our borough why cant our kids have some fun like other children , they deserve it and so do parents sorry to moan on it just drives me mad that theres nothing to suit him not in my area anyway (south wales) how /what does everyone esle do that suits their autistic child?
  19. hi i,m new to i,m single mum with 11 year old with autism do you have good leisure activities for your autistic child in your area? mine is terrible .Iam currentley harressing councillors anyone else i can think, off to provide appropriate building and staff (trained in autism) to run a weekly club for autistic children as theres no where to suit him our children deserve fun out of school activities just like other children sorry to go on ho does everyoe ese manage with weekends and taking their children out and about
