    Hitting self

dont be overly worried, it sounds like shes having serious trouble coping and the only way she can deal with it is by crying out and pulling hair. A lot of autistic people do similar things, hurt themselves, smash things up when they cant cope or understand why the routine is being messed up, aspergers is basically the high end of autism so under stress it appears similar. Try talking to her asking what it is that makes her feel that way and see if you can do anything to resolve it. And if it cant be solved easily or something else sets her off, there are methods you could show her on how to calm down. Such as when shes upset, instead of giving into the urge to pull hair or shout she could go for a fast walk or squeeze an stressball
  2. could you describe what things happened to you or you had trouble with that made you ask for a chat with the lady mentioned?
  3. if it is anxiety making him feel that way could you try to help him with finding work, even part time, I have aspergers, i went through 20 plus jobs in two years because i was always bullied, couldnt understand the till, couldnt look customers in the eye and got called rude. Best job is probably something working alone or with people he knows and trusts. Could try talking to him and say, what is it that makes you so anxious or have such trouble with going out to work, what do you fear will happen? And then talk him through the problems he has with it and try to help
  4. ? says on the direct gov website aspergers is a condition you MAY need to tell them about, IF it affects your driving. How can it affect it directly?
  5. ickle engined motorbike costs me... about 20 in fuel per week and 2.50 in oil [needs it to be mixed for engine]. But when i started riding aged 16 it was about 90 pence a litre i think. Now its nearly half on top again. All because government knows it can tax fuel very high and people will still pay to get it. Take away the fuel tax it would cost about... 30 something pence per litre? or less than that even
  6. fight back! Appeal over and over, keep giving information and ask your gp for help with it too, as they often ask them about it to make sure things arent being made up.
  7. could you state more about his mental health difficulties? Just having aspergers isnt really enough to claim, there needs to be more evidence, like, because of his aspegers, did he realise he was different from everybody and become depressed, develop strange ideas about himself or the world, become on edge/paranoid?
  8. esa is run by atos, and yeah its hard to get on it and stay on it. Glad to hear you won the appeal though. I think it is mainly more for physical difficulties but really a mental health difficulty could be just as hard to deal with if not worse when trying to work. Like if you put a manicly depressed schizophrenic into an office who thought snipers were going to shoot him or her through the window, what sort of behaviour would result? Would they be dangerous to the other workers? Perhaps they think that once the original claim is denied the applicant wont bother trying to appeal so they dont have to pay out as much cash, jobseekers costs the government less. But if that is the case, everyone should appeal, especially if they have real difficulties in life and have A.S, the system was invented for a reason and meant to help people who need it
  9. its most likely a genetic cause. A study in a university found HALF of all the asd adults they tested had the same piece of dna make up missing. I think it was chromosone 15 from the dad wasnt there, but the mothers was. Sound familiar?
  10. !!! 42 is really high! I did that test and got 36! Could you please describe in more detail what difficulties she has, perhaps ask her why she gets anxious. Does she have trouble with eye contact and understanding how people feel? Getting a proper diagnosis is a good thing, A.S isnt a form of low intelligence, its the way the brain has developed differently, better in some areas than in social interaction, probably why its so draining for her, having to think so hard about what to say and do!
  11. are you saying that when this time happens and you wont have anyone to talk to you feel down, hence the need to ring samaritans to talk about your feelings? it isnt weird at all to want to talk to someone, especially when you feel down. If it gets really bad sometimes the only thing that does help or stop people doing silly things to themselves IS talking about it to a friendly voice. Does your father not understand a lot of the things you do? It can be difficult for parents to accept their children as different
  12. I have aspergers, yes, it does sound like your have traits of the diagnosis, that is to say, you dont sound like you function well around people, but you're not completely unable to do so. Best bet as said I think is to go ask your gp for advice, they might get you to see a mental health worker or psychiatrist, who can then diagnose you and offer you help and support. Its amazing how much help there is once you are diagnosed if it is he case, help with interacting with people, techniques to help you understand people etc. Have you ever tried wearing a pair of sunglasses when you are outside or at a party, or somewhere u have to look at people? If its hard to do eye contact, which it is for me, I find I can do it fine if i wear sunglasses because it doesnt feel like my eye is making contact with the other person, its more like im not really there if that makes sense. But the things you describe do sound like it. You said you HAVE to do certain things when you talk? That sounds like, a bit of aspergers and a bit of ocd too. What things do you feel you have to do when you talk? Do you have any strict routines or obsessions?
  13. might not be of much help but it is common for autistic and aspergers to not like different sensations, such as things on their teeth or mouth. All I can think of is that you ask your gp for help and advice, just say he really doesnt like putting things in there, is there anything he could prescribe, like a special make of paste for sensitive teeth so it wont taste of anything?
  14. hey mate, sorry to hear about that! It doesnt sound like he's just got A.S to be honest, sounds more like he real emotional problems and coping difficulties, hence his extreme outbursts, it is normal for people on the spectrum to have meltdowns, just like everyone does at times when things get bad, but to be saying violent things how you described, Id suggest first explaining to him how it makes everyone else feel, scared, worried, and ask him if there is anything making him feel that way. Does he spend a lot of time in his room alone? If you could get to the root of his anger it would help, and if he doesnt respond to that, it's probably time to get a mental health counsellor and your GP involved. Only go for police etc if he really does get violent. He may have said about burning the house down if you sleep there, the question is why would he feel the need to do that. Does he have a real problem with you? If he does and he imagines doing that in his head it may seem fine to him, but he probably doesnt realise the consequences of his actions, for example, if he really did set fire to the house or hurt one of you, he would be jailed or sectioned, with the guilt of knowing hes hurt someone! But please contact someone professional about it first, hope that helps!

    DLA.

i believe dla is being replaced in a couple of years time with personal independence payment, as a way for government to bring down the cost of paying out by not giving out as much to those who dont appear to need it, ie, ones with hidden disabilities, aspergers, moderate autism/ ocd etc, which of course is completely backwards, because the need for that help is still there, it just isnt as obvious. I think they dont care about how hard it is to get dla in the first place or if people cant claim this new one, its all about bringing costs down. I have emailed my local mp about this. What are your thoughts on the whole system being revamped?
