Update Between October '11 and February '12 I did an internship with an electronics firm in Cambridge in the hope that it would lead to a permanent job. Unfortunately it didn't, and on leaving I moved back in with my parents and I joined the Prospects waiting list for the fourth time. (Each time I've joined their waiting list I get shoved to the back of the queue again.) I did try to get ahead of things by posting my CV on job boards and applying for positions while I was still in work, but all that led to were a couple of phone interviews. Since then I've been rung by several recruitment consultancies but haven't had any more interviews - only technical tests, based on the fact that I mention C# and Python on my CV, but I haven't passed any of them.

That would be Martian in the Playground by Clare Sainsbury. And yes, she is related to the supermarket chain. This is her father.

Is there much point after all these years? The criminal conviction I got has been spent since 2003; it would only be an issue if I wanted to work in the armaments industry, which obviously I don't.

At the time of the offence I'm not sure if I'd even heard of AS. That was in September 1998 and I was diagnosed nearly three years later.

I don't know how you measure that quantitatively.

Stairway to Heaven features recorders. Just felt I had to mention that.

What would be your biggest tip to any parent of ASD child?
Aeolienne replied to Sally44's topic in General Discussion
What's wrong with leaving your ASD child to purchase his/her own confectionary from their pocket money? Then they will learn a useful life skill about money management: namely, that the more you spend on transient (and tooth-rotting) pleasures, the less there will be to spend on more lasting accoutrements such bicycles, computer games, clothes etc. -

Make sure they get work experience before leaving school. Don't assume that if they focus on their special interest they'll be able to waltz straight into a meaningful career on the strength of their degree result. -
Back before I was diagnosed with AS I was arrested at a peaceful sit-down protest against an arms fair. My recollection is that we were told that the police would have to warn us a certain number of time before making an arrest, which I took to mean being warned individually as opposed to collectively. I was held in a police cell with the other protestors (one of them Angie Zelter of Ploughshares Four fame) then released on bail. At the magistrates' court a month later I chose to plead guilty to the charge of obstructing the public highway, and forked out a £50 fine and £50 court costs. However some of the other protestors pleaded not guilty and got away with a conditional discharge.

What learning difficulty? I thought that was ruled out by an Asperger's diagnosis.
-
Isn't a language delay also part of the definition? As in, HFAs have (or have had) a delay in learning to speak, people with Asperger's syndrome don't.

I've seen A Bridge Too Far. How true-to-life the Dutch dialogue in that?

Duran Duran, Wild Boys My Duran-related claim to fame: I was taught Latin by a teacher who'd previously taught Amanda de Cadenet who later married (and subsequently divorced) John Taylor. Is that cool or what?!

Do you mean you were working full-time when you were diagnosed or that you are working full-time now?
