  5. Youngest DD has been going on transition visits to her new special school for the past 2 weeks (two afternoons a week, for approx 1.5 hr) with a TA from her present class. She is booked to go this afternoon and Wednesday afternoon. The visit on Wednesday was specifically scheduled so she could participate in the hydrotherapy session. Got a call this morning from her present teacher saying they could no longer lose a member of staff to support DD and any further transition visits could only take place if DH or I supported her, inlcuding the one this afternoon. Apparantly this was writtan in her home/school diary on Friday, but for whatever reason the diary was never sent home. I can appreciate they have limited resources, but I do wish we'd of been forewarned of this from the beginning. Thankfully I'm free this afternoon to collect her and support her, and DH is free on Wednesday, because if the visits were cancelled DD would of been absolutely distraught....especially so the one today, with no prior warning being given to DD. It's further complicated by the fact that both DD's present school, and new school, are both in different towns, in opposite directions to the town we live in

I wouldn't get past the "dear husband" bit before alarm bells began ringing in his head Plus he's already wondering who will be available to discuss the off side rule with......I've told him the majority of peeps going are female, so he's not a happy bunny
  7. Dogs have always been a huge issue for our youngest DD. When she was very young, and still in a pushchair, she would scream, cry and become very very distressed whenever she saw a dog...even if it was on a lead, and well away from us. I began to dread encountering dogs at all when we were out. Visiting people who owned dogs became a big no no for us. I can't say this fear was confined to dogs alone, as she seemed to have real fear of animals like hamsters, and one of our friends had a cat, and youngest DD was very scared of it. We found getting guinea pigs helped....I know, sounds abit daft doesn't it. But because they just sat there, hardly moving, and were happy to be stroked and cuddled, she began to tolerate them more and more. Now I can hardly keep her away from our piggies, and have to keep a close eye on her that she is treating them appropriately. We've have a few incidents when she has treated them in an unkind way, although I'm unsure if this is deliberate. I've noticed since she's began to handle the guinea pigs, and has overcome any fear she had of them, she is more tolerant of dogs. She will stroke them now, so long as they are calm and not jumpy. We can visit people who own dogs now, although if they begin to wander around alot, or sniff around her, she gets abit jittery. I think she struggles because she doesn't know what they will do next. I've always had abit of phobia regarding dogs...which is ironic really because my dad trained police dogs Actually it's probably not that bizarre, having spent many times as a child watching him being regularly "attacked" in a padded suit. I always give dogs off the lead a wide berth if I'm out, and I can't bare dogs which leap up at you, even if I know the dog.

Sorry Smiley, that edit reason made me laugh. Don't think DH will let me go AWOL........maybe I could send him and kiddiewinks to buy an icecream and do a runner Well, it wouldn't be a runner exactly, more a sort of very fast out of breath walk

Oh, wasn't it fab Why have the darleks still got whisks as arms though? I'd quite like James Nesbitt.....think he's smashing and have enjoyed most of his stuff, so I'd be happy..........and as for JD, well, yum yum Although I think JD would be better suited in a Harry Potter film Has anyone mentioned Alan Rickman? Now he'd be good, although maybe abit too intense..........agree with David Thewlis too What about a female Dr Who.........Julie Walters Dawn French Does anyone actually know who IS the new one?
  15. Oh Pearl, that sounds/looks awful <'> Don't our bodies have a strange way of reacting to stress............I developed excema last year due to stress, my hair fell out and I only ever get a coldsore (same place) when I'm really run down. Hope the GP can give you something to ease the pain <'>

    my positive thread

I've had a fabby day today Had to take eldest DD hammy to the vet this morning, because when she got back from her week away she found it bald and scabby Not totally, just a large patch, but thankfully it's nothing serious (although the bill cost more than the hammy) Then I took both girlies on a forest walkway.....full of carved wooden animals, with an adventure playground in the middle, it was smashing. When I got home the postie had delivered the first series of SATC And......Doctor Who looks fantastic tonight
