  5. she obviously struggled for a long time without any help. I know an old lady near to us a few years ago who had a downs son, he would pull her away from anyone she tried to talk to and shout at her to buy him sweets. He was nothing short of a bully she was a frail lady of 70 and he was a big man of 40. who knows what she had to put up with. drs and social workers are willing to hellp when yr kids are small but noone wants to help an adult.
  6. maybe you cd get help with funeral expenses, dont the goverment contribute so much according to circumstances? hope u find an answer for this

  10. we have been invited to a fireworks party next week. now we have a dilemma one of our kids loves fireworks tom hates them. i want to go to this party too, but there is no-one to take care of tom. these days we never seem to go out as a family im sick of staying at home with tom when my duaghter and hubby go out to parties. Would you take him, and allow him to stay indoors while the fireworks are popping or have yet another night at ho me with him? my dh drives and i dont thats why i never go out
  11. oh thats funny my daughter love that cillit bang commercial will have to show her that one
  12. anyone see the breif last week, how many times lately has ppl with AS been portrayed as violent, and a risk to others in cop or crime programmes. It seems to be the fashion lately to have an aspie who killed his mother as in the brief, or who harmed someone else. I am worried that kids who go to school with my son see these programmes and think he is going to harm someone or goad him into getting angry to see what he does next. Isnt life difficult enough for our kids without portraying them as violent people. I dont think this raises public awareness at all, the programme always makes out that it was a mistake but the violent label has already been imprinted before they do that.
  13. out of the mouths of babes! well done you!
  14. aww good luck with it all. I was in pretty much the same situation with Tom, took a move of docs to get him sorted, and i think dh was in denial too. Tom is 12 now and it seems a long time ago, but i still remeber the overwhelming feeling of lonliness. wish i had this group then, i hope u get yr answers and continue to be strong for yr daughters sake. ther is help out there, you have to find it though and there are plenty of ppl in here who have 'been there and done that'. thinking of your family
  15. i loved it tom did too, he loves that sort of humour.
  16. my son was about 12 months when i thought all was not well, but i was a nursery nurse and knew what to look for, he would make a bee line for the same toy at playgroup everytime and wouldnt play with ahything else. Hie eye contact was really bad and he wouldnt aknowledge my mom at all, he wouldnt even look at her and to this day has never sat on her lap. also, he would walk round the edge of the room at story time he hated sitting with the other children.
  17. ! agree with the post about the sounds, thats just what happens with us, tom hates the sounds that accompany the adverts so we dont go in till theyve finsihed - even if it means crawling along in the dark trying to find a seat lol
  18. oh we loved it too, it was sad and happy at the same time, although gruesome too in places!
  19. that sounds fabulous, although tom hates music so guess it would be a nono for him
