    DLA

Hi and good luck with the DLA form filling, my son's was turned down first time and I know now it was lack of information given. But after appealing he won this and was first awarded both low rates on the 2 components. However after a month they reviewed this after requesting this and he was awarded high rate care and also kept the low rate mobility. I would advise whoever has this form is to get help from someone like the CAB or welfare rights or so, this will take off the pressure, but although I believe a diagnosis counts, you need to add the care and support given and write the worse of everything. Where here he is now 13, I still do everything for him, from bathing, help dressing, help with cutting of most foods and so on. Good luck and seek help with these forms if you can. . Di.

    DLA

Hi all. Just like to wish you well with the DLA applications/renewals. All the very best and yes if nothing has changed then its handy to go from the last form, and yet if the situation has got worse then its well worth adding this information, like I did with my son's on a supersession/review then he went from low to high rate, and awarded from 2006 as it was backdated from then until 2013, good luck all. Di.

  15. So annoying isn't it ? Same happened here regarding Daniel's school, they said the opposite of everything, even though he was already under a ED Pysc ! I also sent in stacks of school evidence for them to rectify this and typed a letter to inform them the school obviously had the wrong child, I think this helped to get awarded in the end. This is very common of why dla is let down and they DWP always go for the schools for further information as they know maybe 8/10 the schools always add what they shouldn't add ! My MP's letter also helped and a supporting letter from the disabilities team, as the first time round, I had sent in letters from the specialists etc, and almost forgot to mention, MENCAP are amazing and think their letter pushed for this too. Even though Mencap do not know Daniel personally, they make a home visit to you and will write supporting letters, you just give all the information, as your child does not have to be home, and you just tell them what you do to help and care for your child 24/7. www.mencap.co.uk try these out hun if you have to, but hopefully you won't have to and will be awarded from here. Let me know how you go and we will take it from there hun........I have learn't a lot about DLA over the last few months and have learn't how they work, and also thanks to a great forum like this one. Take care hun and keep in touch ok. Di. xxxxxxx
  16. Hi hun. Do not worry at this stage, easier said than done I know, but you will get there in the end. Can you also ask your local MP to help back you up with this and have you a disability key worker from social services ? (sorry if you have already mentioned this - and I may have missed it along the way), but all this helps. With my son's as you will probably already know, we applied in DEC 2006 and he was refused in March 07 and again during the reconsideration stage, and from what you said it seems like they may have done what you said, made the decision by not checking out the further evidence. Dan my son was finally awarded both low rates in Sept 2007, after an appeal oral hearing then after a month, I asked them to review this on the grounds of detoriation, they had reviewed this and then he was awarded 'high rate care and kept the low rate mobility'. Funny enough, my sister who is now almost 41 is disabled and have had a few operations just before christmas, where she had put in a claim of DLA, just before Christmas she received the letter back to say this was not awarded, so after Christmas she rang them and asked them to send reasons for why she was turned down as she was thinking about asking them to reconsider this and only had so much time to do so. The next thing they said was that the letter she had was sent out by mistake and they were still considering the claim..........so maybe there has also been a batch of letters sent out that shouldn't have if you know what I mean ? She is now waiting for the real letter to come through the post, they said they posted this out on Weds just gone. So like I said before you will get there in the end, and like you have done sent in further evidence they do need to look at that in order to make a decision, so I have a feeling this is now what they are doing hun, and fingers crossed this will be good news. If not keep that chin up and keep fighting..............I promise you will get there and all will be backdated from when you first claimed. Good luck and please keep me informed. Look forward to hearing from you. Take care. Di xxx
  17. Yes.........good luck. I still haven't filled in my form, and keep saying I had better get on with it, its been hanging about for months now. I am now thinking of adding a computer/lappy down on the list for him, although we have this one here, there are always arguments on who's going on next, like my older son who is also studying IT at university and needs this, and cannot afford to buy another one yet. And do think this will help him a lot.
  18. Hi JsMum, not a problem............just glad I remembered something useful for a change lol. Sorry to learn you missed out..............like you said they don't work together and will not mention anything, so thank goodness for websites too lol. I hope they backdated the Carers all the way for you........sometimes to what I am aware of they will do this within a good reason and do think yours was good enough for them to do this for you. All the best hun. Di. xxx
  19. Thank you hun. I will give it my best shot and contact the keyworker too........think it must be worth trying. Will let you know how it goes, cheers again. Di. xxx
  20. Great news. Well done hun. Unless I've missed it somewhere on here and perhaps someone has already mentioned this, but you can also apply for Carer's allowance.......okay this will depend on if your working and what you earn, and does not matter if your other half works or not as this is an allowance for yourself. Good luck and glad you got there. Di. xx
  21. Hi. I was thinking of also applying for a blue badge and feel we will be let down.......with our council depending on who is dealing with it is like trying to get blood out of a stone. My Daniel will be 13 next week and he cannot go out alone and has not a clue when it comes to crossing roads, we take him to and from school, he is easily led and vulnerable, yet intelligent in lots of other ways. Daniel receives 'high rate care & low rate mobility'. We do have a great keyworker and have not thought yet of asking him to help out with this, as he have been doing lots of other things for us too and still is......he is great. If I were to put a letter in I think it will have to look good and any help on here to give me a little head start will be a great help. As I may try myself first then if no joy get the keyworker from the disabilities team involved and maybe my MP too who have been a great help in the past. Any suggestions of what to add in the letter to request the blue badge ? Cheers all. Di. xx
  22. Hi all. Well here I am between, 5ft 5 to 5,6, hubby just touching 6ft, Jamie is 19 and also touching 6ft, although his real dad was about 5ft 10, my youngest son Daniel (ASD) is 12 will be 13 next week is just about the same height as me, his dad is the first one mentioned above.......lol. Daniel is also asthmatic and has steroid medication where i was told this does hold back on the height growth ????????.....so if this is true I imagine he may be taller again. . Di.
  23. Hope your son had a lovely birthday and the same to others who I have missed too. And that picture of that yummy cake...........hmmm, very nice indeed and my mouth was watering looking at it....... . Its Daniel's 13th next week on the 15th Jan on a Tuesday and he wants a blue cake lol, mind you his dad made Daniel's birthday cake when Daniel was about 3 years old, it was in a shape of a car in light blue and what an amazing job he done.........me would not have a clue............ Have not any time this year so will do our best to find a blue cake, other than that I will have to order one...........I did have a go once and messed up BIG time..... , never again......... Di.
  24. Brooke............sorry to hear your darling son is not well........ . We wish him a speedy recovery. Give him a BIG <'> from me, cheers. All the best. Di.
  25. Hi Karen yes I agree. We will all be thinking of Amanda & family, they are all in our thoughts. xxx
