  1. Hi lorraine <'> <'> for you Sorry if your having a stressful time at the moment, I can understand what your going through and other parents on here more than likely as to. My son is 10 now but he was doing the same thing for example: drawing on the walls about age 6-7 approx he stopped writing his name on our leather suite... writing Actionman on doors but mostly furniture He wrote Actionman on our car... using a stone and noughts and crosses with it too.. He has got out of it now though thank god, I could say hide all the pencils etc but not sure that will achieve anything from my experience anyway. Give it time maybe perhaps reward him on a daily or weekly basis for not drawing elsewhere or if you draw yourself draw with him perhaps make it a fun thing. Sorry not sure what else to say, I draw myself it's all in our genes my dad was very artistic and my daughter draws well too. My son just tells me I dont know for most things when I ask him or says cant remember where he leaves his hat etc... Let us know what you have tried to do to deal with the problem they can be little terrors when they want to be... you could even say like if he has a comic or treats regular stop it when he does it might make him think differently. Take care Amanda <'> <'>
  2. justamom My son was born with a inperforated anus (no opening at the back end) He had a colostomy at 1 day old, when he was about 5-6 mths he had his back end opened up, then about 10-11mths he had the stoma pulled back through to join back on to the bowel. Apparently the bowels hadn't formed 100% and he's 10 now and still having enemas daily to try to clean him out but dont always work. The consultant told us last yr he thinks it's more psycological now than a problem and probably be clean 100% when he reaches puberty. Im still waiting for a reply off the consultant but he's a great surgeon and willing to wait. Many thanks will try some of these out that you all have gave me..... <'>
  3. Hi everyone... <'> Sorry not been on much as not been connected up to net at home but only on PAYG just when we need it. I hope all of you are ok and doing really well and having the support you need and entitled to. Im having some trouble with my son (10) soiling himself again like he's gone backwards not forwards. He says nothing's bothering him at school and the household is fine also nothing different or his diet. He tells me that the teacher hadn't told him he needed to go but I said to him he needs to know and not to depend on everyone else. It might be a bit he soils but the teacher said the children are noticing aswell as the teachers and sept 07 he's in secondary school. I have e.mailed his consultant who was due to see him in feb this yr but still no appointment which is every yr. I have not received any mail as yet to get some advice off him or a appointment sooner if he's not busy as I can understand how busy he's gets and he's good at his job. Sorry to go on but really stuck what to do, doing a sticker chart but that hasn't worked. Any thoughts? He has had bowel surgery and it is delayed but not sure if its lazyness or like he said cant feel it sometimes coming out. Many thanks...... Amanda
  4. My son is going to secondary school next year so will need to know where we are sending him by october because of the numbers. We have had a review of his statement recently and the teacher said that he's not ready for mainstream and I doubt myself if he will be ready by next year. There is one school by me that as a unit and I have a appointment to have a look round to see for myself. The teacher told me to write some questions down about what help he will get and how much etc but not sure what to ask??? I have heard that this school as alot of bullying with special kids taking bags etc so Im very put off already. Please can you give me some advice. Mant thanks Amanda <'>
  5. Hi everyone.......... Hope you all had a lovely christmas and New yr...... Sorry not been on alot, to be honest we were all on the computer too much and it was getting a habit. We are doing more with each other since not using one. We go to Canada in October and already trying to sort everything out. I took my son to the photo booth the other day and he ended up crying his eyes out and sitting on the floor while it took the photo... He said mam cant do it so I was told to tak him to Klicks as they will do it on a digi camera for a passport. He has gone back a bit on some things again and all of a sudden hes always upstairs on his own too much. He his upstairs for his dinner Xbox and prefers being alone and his work is got behind. So me and the teacher as discussed about time out after an hr or so on Xbox etc and spend time with us in which he finds very boring. We have had an assessement done with the SALT about a week ago and shes has to finish it at school. They still say hes got to have things in place but now as given me work for him to do each night to work with me rather than be on his own alot. Not sure when im on next but I hope this site carrys on for a long time as it as helped me alot Im still at my job and happy I have the odd day that I feel low but trying to get on with like we all do. Take care of yourselves and hope you are all well in yourselves lots of <'> <'> <'> Love Amandaxxxxxxx

  7. Hi dorsetmummy Lots of us on here have had or going through the same thing with sleep, either getting off to sleep or staying asleep all night. My son cant get to sleep but I have given up now just let him go to sleep when he wants. The paediatrician told me just let him go to bed by 9pm (he's 9) as long as he's quiet and stays in his room let him go when he's tired even if it's 12am and that's usually most nights. Try these thread see if they help Getting a night's sleep http://www.asd-forum.org.uk/forum/index.ph...t=0entry36976 Sleep...or not.. http://www.asd-forum.org.uk/forum/index.ph...st=0entry1277 Bedtime http://www.asd-forum.org.uk/forum/index.ph...t=0entry16123 Take care Amanda
  8. All I know about sats is that they have stopped sats for 7 year olds and only do then for 11 just before they enter secondary school. My son is 9 and never had any tests done and think they are still roughly still doing work on KS1 with him........ i asked them before what books to get few mths ago and they just said keep to that one. Sorry no advice..... Take care Amanda
  9. My son had a bit of a discussion with me yesterday about dying yet again but very different to what he usually talks about. When my hubby got home from work I told him and to be honest he had to walk out the room he started... I went out and asked him is he ok but all he said is my son is making him sad and he's worried about his future as an adult, age 9 at present. Well he kept saying Why do we have to die?.......Do monsters live?....Do pencils or paper live or when they get used what happens to them then, Do invisible ghosts exist?.......... He wants to live forever and I told him he would be very unhappy after a while.... He kept a straight face no tears and I bottled it all up to be strong for my hubby the best I could. Yes we all worry about our kids future but it can be very stressful, emotional time with our kids and some people dont understand what we have to deal with with what things they say etc. Not sure why he has come out with things that dont exist and say things why they dont live but this is new to me. Lets hope things Ive told him about the living and the the things that haven't got a heart beat gets through to him........ Thanks for listening Amanda <'>
  10. The other week I asked my daughter what she would like to do, still the same...Vet so I told her she needs to carry on working hard if she really wants it badly. Well my son who is 9 who didn't hear it from me said nothing just be normal Mam..... I think he knows more about his problems more than I think to be honest. He doesn't want to be a Policeman, Doctor or anything else just ride his bike and play. I think at age 9 is too young to know what they want really as they always change their minds but I do hope he will have a great future ahead of him as I do worry what sort of adult he would make. Me and the school has to discuss secondary school in the summer for the following year what we think he should be doing such as mainstream class or a unit but have to wait until then to get it sorted. I really would hope that he does mature when he reaches adulthood as it would upset me especially when he's a teenager bullying is more of a problem I think. All us parents can do is try our best to bring our kids up and see what the outcome is we will all love them the same anyway. Take care Amanda
  11. None of us are perfect as we are all on edge when our kids want to play outside where there's danger around them with cars etc. Lately my son comes in from school and says he wants to go out on his bike as soon as he's changed... Around the backs of the houses there are side roads and keep telling him to be very careful, in the front of my house there is the main road (very busy) fast cars... So I tell him to stay around the backs but look out for cars pulling in aswell and I got to let him out one day without worrying too much. A neighbour has told me that she said to my son to watch the cars and all he said was Dont Care...... Then she said well your mam would So he said..... I told him off for that anyway, he came in crying the other day saying that a girl put her wheel of her bike against his but nothing else so they all made fun of him because he was upset of silly things. I do get annoyed with other kids because he's different as they can be very mean especially teasing etc. I just got him together with friend same age has him who as learning difficulties but quite independant just behind a bit. I explained to his dad as his mother is not around for him that my son cant walk all the way to the local shop alone as he cant be trusted. He's coming to tea tomorrow and the cinema with us on saturday..... To be honest some of the kids around us would end up getting him into trouble going out on the busy roads and this boy doesn't go out much himself and is very quiet so at least he's not going to be lead astray.... Take care ALL Amanda <'> <'> <'>

    Advice

Thanks alot everyone............... means alot. I think alot of people do criticise about our children as they dont understand them very well. Whether it would be family or strangers, im glad it's been on the tv, papers etc more so people can start to realise our kids are different in they own way. They should NOT get compared to someone that as no problems and I can safely say im not on my own as you all have probably gone through the same thing with your family members to. He has not said anything else since but if he does Im going to put him straight again and tell him that if he wants to interfere he's not welcome as im an adult/mother and wife not a child to be told what to do....... It's so difficult as they interfere when they come down saying that needs doing, you want to sort that out..IT'S OUR HOUSE for god sake. Just like to say thanks for all the support in the past you all have been a great help........... Yes Littlenemo I do play with my son but I find it difficult to do small talk with action figures not sure what to say....... We had fun the other day he was on my back and I was on all fours he thought that was very funny he couldn't stop laughing....... He made a new friend yesterday he's 7 just moved in recently so they went out on their bikes, son dressed up as darth vader and his friend wore my son's spiderman costume that had got to small so we gave it to him to keep. Sorry about the life story I apologise yet again. Take care Amanda

    Advice

Hi everybody Need some advice on what to do with my son playing with toys and other children. He's 9 yrs old and he was very obsessed with Actionman but he seems to be all talk about power rangers dino thunder. Very annoyed this morning interfering in-laws again......... I was very argumentative and my father-in-law went red as he suffer's with high blood pressure. He kept saying he should be just reading/writing and learning not playing with toys like power rangers etc. I kept saying he should be a child and learn and play. He said he's a baby and that those sort of toys are for 3/4 yr olds.. He shouldn't be playing with a 5 year old, well i know that much but there is nonone else for him around by me. the only boys around here would end up getting my son in trouble or getting him riding his bike over the roads and he's not like them if you know what I mean. What my hubby told me is that my inlaw didn't read or write until he was a teenager and he's trying to alter my son and not do what he did. This is the first time I answered back but I nearly lost it with him. His friends are in school but he got upset when I told him that the boy he plays with age 5 is to young for him . I just went out and bought him black ranger etc, have I done the right thing as I do help him with reading, learnign etc but he get's very frustrated so got to get him in the right mood. He has not been on the Xbox in a few weeks just wants to ride his bike in which that's no problems as it's good exercise for him. Sorry to go on but really blanked off. To be honest my hubby said that he doesn't think his father really understands ASD in children and my son's difficulties etc, like most other family members I expect. Please any advice would be appreciated as ive told him that Im not a bad parent I do the best I can. Not been on much been busy sorting the house out and work.......Sorry and hope everyone is fine. Take care Amanda
  16. Hi something different Not been on much lately as on overtime etc.........sorry. YOU LUCKY.....BLANK..... Im really...... now wish I was going with you, it's what ive always wanted to do since I was 14 to experience seeing the world from up above. Im a bit over the weight limit for a tandem fall at the moment but hoping to sort that problem out and see what to do about either paying for it myself or raising funds for charity...... I know I will do it because never forgive myself If I dont do it, if I was at the right weight now and had the money id really come with you. The only reason with a tandem is I dont like heights but this is my dream so if I did happen to feel faint then at least I got someone with me to talk it through. Im so proud of you raising money for charity good for you in the amount you have raised............. Do let us know how it went as I know I can get it recorded for an extra cost, I have all the information of what barracks to go to so its the weight that has to come off so that's my goal. I think the tandem im supposed to be doing when I book is 10,000 or 15,000 feet.......... All the best for sunday have fun and enjoy the experience of a lifetime and im sure you will be fine on sunday so dont get nervous. All the best Amanda <'>
  17. My daughter always gets headlice quite often since in primary school and now shes in her second year of comp. Why dont some of the parents check their kids hair... My daughter as got to the stage she'd rather stay home and it's always arguments in the house over it as she's really had enough of it. Why dont they have the nit nurse anymore???..I wanted to do a petition to get the department to fund nit nurses again as she is really getting a sore scalp all the time. Not sure what to do as my hands are tied because she thinks if I complain in a letter or more the other kids will know she has them and may pick on her. Really dont know what to do. My hubby is going out to buy some stuff tomorrow as she hasn't used anything for a while only just conditioner with a nit comb as everything stopped working. Any advice what to do with doing a complaint as its been like this since primary school and every night I comb her hair and find them......... Many thanks Amanda
  18. Hi jools My son was in pull ups until he was about 5/6 yr old due to soiling more than wetting himself and still soiling now. Do push for some answers from the doctors etc as it must be hard for your son at age 8 still having problems with his toiletting when they can be a target for bullying. My son is 9 and still soils himself but can be very good then have some bad days, he's on fleet enemas daily to clean him out. It can work sometimes but might not the next day, without it he can soil, with it he can soil so never know whats going to happen. It's more psychological ive been told more than less now from the consultant who I will see next year. I was told it is an overflow or something when the child is constipated and ends up getting incontinence.......... but he has had a few ops on his bowels since birth as they was not formed properly. Dont know much about dyspraxia...Sorry, do go for the alarm as that wont hurt at all I cant tell you that much as other members have already given you great advice... Let us know how you get on as I understand what your going through as I have to take wet wipes/pants wherever I go just incase he gets messy... Try these links http://www.aboutincontinence.org/causes.html http://www.aboutincontinence.org/Children.html Take care Amanda

Hi Tracey My son is cruel to our cat who's only 1 year old, here's some of the things he has done to him in the past. Put his hands around his neck... Hit him Flick him Tease him Aggravate him alot Kicks him I could go on, but now it's not that bad just teases him, caught him hitting him now and again, but mainly aggravating him...ALOT. He has scratched his face/arm but that was my son's fault for not leaving him alone. We have a fish but doesn't take any notice of that. Other animals he his nervous but sometimes he his friendly cant tell what mood he his in. Too be honest he does cuddle him alot in the house but tends to do it too much and he doesn't like it and the cat is already spoilt...... Take care Amanda <'>

  22. Been trying to get on since yesterday, not sure if anyone had caught this mornings programme about a boy with ADHD. I only managed to watch the last 5 mins but it made me cry seeing the mother upset with her son's violence... I was filling up felt really sorry for her coping with the difficulties she's been having. He used to stamp on his sister's neck, threatened her with a knife.. He hit his mother with a piece of wood and I could go on. She was concerned about when he reaches the age to drink alcohol with his temper. I think he as done really well as they said violence as not been serious since june... Goodluck to the family and hope everything works out well with them as it looks like the son as got lots of support as she said she cant give up on him ..... <'> <'> Sorry if anyone as already discussed this. Take care Amanda <'> <'>
  23. How many of you have had to deal with odd behaviour when out with your child?..I know kids will be kids but I went out today and he kept climbing shop windows, very high ones too and all of a sudden he started to act like an ape crawling and hoping like one more an less. Then he went on the floor and just crawled and everyone and believe me were staring. We went into a shop and he started to open a toy gun and as I was busy sorting myself out at the checkout the lady kept telling him not to touch and all he said was he wanted to try it first to see what it did, I was waiting for him to get very rude as hes been quite bad lately. Sorry to go on yet again but when he does odd things like acting like an ape, he does funny body movements and he does get attention when he does this. He's 9 and doing the best I can with odd behaviour when out in public but its a nightmare because I cant always be calm. Take care Amanda
