  1. I too have ocd and am really rubbish on esculaters.it takes me ages to step on the things.I cant quite see the connection between the two though.i also have mild aspergers, still don't understand why they should be a problem though!!
  2. Just wanted to add and I dont wamt to worry amyone but i think it has been discussed on here before.Adults with as can become alcoholics to help cope with their inevitable social difficulties. My father suspect as is an alcoholic and I think others on here have said the same
  3. I cant give you much advice I'm afraid but just because someone"Behaves normally" in certain situations does not mean thet don't have as.I have mild as and am well able to appear okay unless you know me well or know as well.Anyone worth they're salt would be well aware of this sadly not everyone is clued up about as.Best of luck
  4. Sue1957 That's great news. Was he born with autism/as then or did he regress after a jab or both? When my daughter had her autistic encephalitus she followed the gluten free, milk free asparteme free diet.I have to confess I couldn't definately say thats what made her recover but who knows perhaps it helped.Hope things continue to improve for your son. We were so so lucky my daughter made a full recovery. It can be so tough having a child on the spectrum Take care.Best wishes
  5. I too am petrified of death and have as not sure if it is more common with people on the spectrum to have fears of death and dying
  6. Sue1957 Can I ask is your son as then? You said something about him recovering so a bit unsure. Zemanski, Jaded and all My daughter had not been suffering from anything that i knew of no colds no flu ear infections or anything otherwise i would not have let her have the jab.I don't think she was under any stress either, but like you say maybe there was something underlying that wasn't obvious.Incidentally what gt ormond street said to me was and I quote'the mmr booster caused the regression but the link could not be proved' So I didn't know what to make of this.I suppose because scientists have yet if ever to prove the link.Guess it doesn't mean there isn't one though. This thread is very interesting. Another thing I think was was she genetically at risk as well.I have very mild as I didn't knoe that at the time.have a three year old non vaccinated (completely) little boy who is nt.
  7. Hi From my experience I have learnt that as people can and do become obsessed with people.i think it is a bit of a misconception that it is only things they become obsessed with. This is generally the rule and people they are not bothered about I know this doesn't help much but I think this has been discussed on here before so someone else might be able to shed some more light on this
  8. Mossgrove, Jaded I take your point that maybe the autism would have come on anyway without the jab but the mmr trigged it.But what I can't understand was if in all likely hood it was going to happen any way. What about my daughter who had the first mmmr at 10 months and was fine no problems but then wasnt on the booster at four years old but then went on tomake a full recovery. If she was so subsepterble why then did she not go on the first mmr????Confused!!!!
  9. Hi Peter sometimes people with as are caught up in their own world pursuing their obsessions and interests and consequeuently forget to initiate contact.I can be a bit caught up in my own world sometimes. . Anyway this is just my observations.I would be interested to hear other people's experiences. Peter. I am not saying you are like this but just explaining
  10. Hi Beverley Autistic encephalitus is where the brain becaomes inflamed in my dughter's case after the mmr booster vaccination. The inflamation caused her to temporarily become autistic for six months. There's more about it on a couple of threads on here at the moment. There's a thread about the mmr booster and also one about the causes of autism genetic, mercury etc.Hope this helps. She is absolutely fine now by the way this was five years ago.
  11. Sorry just caught up with this thread.I suspected as havea very vivid imaginations and write endless poetry..So i so agree with what Baddad was saying and the rest of you.I often don't understand why i offended someone until after the event.Yes I have empathy but show it in a different way to someone else.People on the spectrum can and do have immagination and also feelings.I think as someone was saying the more we learn things are not so black and white and we all present differently. I am really upset when I have upset someone i don't mean to and I am often unawre until someone informs me.I am unable to tell.I can only second what zemanski said we have imagination but cant tell when we offend or how someone is feeling. As a little girl i had an imaginary friend . Like Baddad said ican and do show emotion.i can be totally over emotional in fact. But often like Baddad said i show emotion differently to an nt person.
  12. Phasmid Thanks for your kind words.I'm lucky that my as is very mild.I have no problems with eye contact don't have any obsessions but have problems with communication both in understanding what people are saying and in making myself understood.I also have problems with emotions particularly extreme emotions.I also have big difficulties in reading peoples feelings etc consequently I accidentally offend and can often be unitentionally tactless.I am a big worrier and get very anxious about things.I also have mild ocd which i think can often run alongside as. As far as my father goes yes it is a sad situation I understand from my brother he is an alcoholic which again is fairly common with people with as.No I'm not going to hit the bottle!!!!.
  13. Hi Phasmid Just wanted to say i am like your friend on the course with you.I realised my estranged dad in all probability has as.He is in his mid sixties too and I only realised about a year ago.I find it kind of heartbreaking because i guess I would have had a dad if he didn't have as. Hi sarah Welcome to the forum.I have mild as but for me I don't think i need a diagnosis.I have a office job and am happily married with two children.i got through school ok although i was very shy and a huge worrier.I now realise this was probably my as.Best of luck to you and once again welcome.I only realised i had as in the last few months and I am 37.So 23 isnt old! Take care
  14. Hi welcome.Coffee for me please white no sugar.I've got mild as welcome to the forum.I'm married with two nt children although my daughter had autistic encephalitus for six months bu tmade a full recovery
  15. Malika Thanks so much for the quotes and research you have done. This is very interesting and is exactly what happened to my daughter within seven days of having her mmr booster at four she was showing many signs of autism. We were told it was the measels part of the vaccination that had gone into her brain produced encephalitus which had then brought on the autism.Hense she then got a diagnosis of autistic encephalitus. Her symptoms got worse and worse over three months. The next three months she got better and better and at the end of month six she was practically back to her normal self.I have to say gr ormand street were amazed by this because they thought she would not recover.I knoe wmany people with encephalitus don't recover. So am quite puzzled but very relieved that she got better. This happened five years ago now but about two years ago I suspected my father to have aspergers. So was she genetically at risk and why didn't it happen on the first vaccination???? Incidentally I have a three year old non vaccinated son who is nt.Nothing wrong whatsoever.Too scared to have any more though because not sure if I am at risk. This thread is very interesting and gives me a lot to think about!!!!
  16. My daughter had autistic encephalitus of the brain following her mmr booster at four years old but is absolutely fine now.So in some cases the mmr can act as a trigger.
  17. Streamindreams Just caught up with your reply to me apologies.!!!The only thing I would say is at least your aware of how you can be.You are not in denial.I am aware of how I can be I have mild aspergers.I cant always stop myself from doing it though!!!
  18. Lucas You have your opinion and I have mine, so let's leave it there. You may or may not be interested to know I have a brother just like you. When you are posting it is as though I am debating something with my brother.I knowfrom my experience with him that this debate could go on forever. My brother has aspergers.Anyway I know what I saw with my own eyes and I also know my daughter does not have autism aspergers or is on the spectrum in any way.Believe me I would know if she was.I know the conditions inside out and backwoods like lots of us in here.
  19. Lucas Maybe they fear you might offend someone. If my daughter didn't have autistic encephalitus because it doesn't exsist then surely she would still be autistic to this day and she isn't.There is nothing wrong with her.If she didn't have autistic encephalitus then what did she have? Have you got any children?Have you ever watched a child who was normal for four years regress after a vaccination?
  20. I dont know. I bet you are great company with a good sense of humour different and not boring very clever and with a lot to give.I bet you would make a loyal friend and I bet you are a good listener.you have a lot to give and if people don't like you it's because they don't understand you and it is them that is missing out for not enjoying your differences. I didnt like myself when I first realised i have as now as my husband says if I was any different I wouldn't be me.I know whilst I have difficulties in certain areas I have a lot to give and I know that my mum, my sister, husband and two children love me for who I am.Think of your positive points not your negative...I hope I am explaining myself properly.Take care thinking of you.
  21. You did not over react.I would have reacted in the same way. This womam doesn't know what she is talking about. She very likely knows very little about asd therefore she should have said nothing. You always get people everywhere who think they know everything about everything. We have a woman like this where I work. She thinks she knows all about kids and parenting. She doesn't even have any kids. She knows all about driving. She cant even drive!I endevour to bight my tongue but often dont succeed. She sits right behind me and moans about kids all day long.If she had children she would be a better person than she is.Anyway rant over! I would say ignore her or calmly say to her You don't know what your talking about you dont have a child with asd.It is your choice what to do, not for other people to comment on.
  22. Noetic My daughter had three months of getting worst and worst i.e. displaying more and more symptoms of autism. At one point I had a list of thirty different things she was doing which she had never done in the four years of her llife. Then in month four the symptons began to gradually disappear. In month six she was almost back to normal.By the time she started school in september, probably before that she was back to normal. She had the vaccination 2nd January.
  23. Exactly Noetic.Whilst it might only be a small preportion of autistics who had autistc encephalitus. It can and does exsist. What I have never heard of is someone recovering completely.Has anyone ever heard of anyone recovering? We are so lucky and every day I count my blessings.
  24. what a tragic and sad story.I'm not even going to comment on this one.I don't think alot of these people that are passing comment have any idea what she went through each day. What a sad state of affairs. She has punished herself enough. She needs support now.
  25. Thank you for that information Jaded very interesting I shall be showing it to my husband tonight.Despite what lucas is saying my daughter did have autistic encephalitus of the brain. Many people with encephalitus and there are many types of encephalitus(inflamation of the brain)do not recover from it Therefore has she not recovered from it she would have been autistic and displayed the same symptoms as any other autistic child. Her autistic enceohalitus was brought on by the mmr from the time period of when she started showing autistic symptoms we were told it was the measels part of the vaccination that caused the encephalitus. One of the side effect of measels is encephalitus. Incidentally there is a man down my father in laws road who was fine went on holiday and picked up something and ended up having encephalitus. This was about five years ago an d he struggles to know what day of the week it is and shows no sign of recovering.I think autistic encephalitus is very rare but then having read Jaded posting perhaps it is not. When my daughter was in gt ormond street there was a ten year old girl there who had caught a virus that had attacked her brain leaving her with encephalitus(not autistic encephalitus) and she could not speak at all So in conclusion autistic encephalitus can and does exsist. The infection came out of her brain and she went back to normal. She had a brain infection that brough on autism caused by the mmr.I know because I was there.
