  1. I put that my son has a mental health problem because the other two sentecnces did not seem to fit - ad AUTISM/ Aspergers are included in DSMIV - which is termed a list of mental health disoders. Not that I think that these conditions should be termed as such as they ar developmental disorders but that the DLA would recognie these terms and understand them.
  2. Yes thanks for sorting that out, and to lufty for reassuring email this morning - I thought it was me who had done something to the site! Cannot understand what people get from doing this sort of thing Will keep an eye out now for unusual things I managed to affect my pc and laptop (twice in the case of my laptop as I went back to site after I had cleared the trojan off my machine to see if everyone else was ok) good eh!
  3. Lisa Check out http://www.childcarecareers.gov.uk/ and for local info: http://www.rotherham.gov.uk/graphics/Learn...n+childcare.htm for more advice. On the Rotherham council website it has following message of who to contact to discuss further. For more information about training please ring Paula Williams or Pam Hawkins on 01709 822691 I know you get a lot of help if you are setting up to be a childminder and maybe this is the case if you want to train to be a nursery nurse. Good luck! Debbie

    DLA

Did you not get a letter saying that they had received your application and that you should hear again within 8wks? We got a letter when we reapplied, which was Feb. we reapplied around that time and got decision within 8wks as promised. I thought even if they had not decided they should have sent you another letter saying they had some more chasing to do... Also they send us form in Jan. and because we did not fill it in after a few weeks (actually a couple of days after we sent the form they sent us a "reminder" letter - have you had anything like that which would suggest they did not get the form???) Perhaps a phone call to them would be appropriate if they have not contacted you at all I sent the application by recorded delivery by the way so that I could be sure it had arrived - it took us ages to complete the form and I did not want it to get lost! Take care Debbie

this is on the tv at ours and I have to say I haven't heard anything particularly inspiring so far!!! I Enjoy reading the subtitles to songs that are in another language - to see if the words make sense I did not even realise it was that time of the year again - although I had heard the song a number of times over the past few weeks, I did not realise it was our entry. Its different isnt it?
  8. Mr&Mrs Phas How did it go??? Hope everything went okay, and that phas jr enjoyed his first day as an employed person! Debbie
  9. ditto and thanks for your comments
  10. me too - what a load of cobblers!!!! What can you do to convince someone with this attitude?
  11. Lisa Hi I live in Rotherham, just like you! And yes it was kids! They are really sweet (honest!!!) Paula glad you will get out after all, hope you have a great evening
  12. Lisa you cannot live that far away from me so can I fetch my kids round saturday please? could all interested parties post in a new thread on this forum, with their name/no of kids/ location; and then after a certain amount of time (X weeks?) they could be sorted geographically and then parents could arrange to meet and discuss the idea further??????? Or if bothered about posting personal details direct on here perhaps someone could be the co-ordinator to whom this info should be sent (a moderator or regular user?) then the info is not spread to all and sundry just a thought.. <'> to Paula, though at least your frustration has led to you posting this excellent idea!
  13. Aspergers.... what does it mean to me (a workbook explaining self awareness and life lessons to the child or youth with high functioning autism and aspergers. Catherine Faherty is the author, ISBN188547759-7 It is a workbook for the child and the parent/ teacher to look through and complete TOGETHER (not just advice for parent/ teacher). Chapter 1 covers topics such as "how to use the book", "strengths and talents", "autism is a thing about me", "what is autism", "Why do I have autism" and "was I born with autism". Other chapters cover "ways of thinking", "The sensory experience", "Artistic talent", "people", "understanding", "thoughts", "communication", "school""friends", "feeling upset" Many topics are covered within each chapter, pages which are a workbook for child and parent/ teacher to complete, and also some guidance and info. for parents and teachers to read about how to introduce the topic and work with the child to help them learn. Has anyone else seen used this book. I have bought it and it looks good (was made aware of it by professional who assessed my son and who is going to advise on which particular chapters are relevant to him, though I will look through it all as it looks interesting
  14. Hi I dont know if this will help you, but my son is also age 7 and has a diagnosis of PDA I have been recommended a book (by a professional who is expert is autism/ ASDs and the condition my son has been diagnosed with, PDA) . It is called Aspergers.... what does it mean to me (a workbook explaining self awareness and life lessons to the child or youth with high functioning autism and aspergers. Catherine Faherty is the author, ISBN188547759-7 It is a workbook for the child and the parent/ teacher to look through and complete TOGETHER (not just advice for parent). It has many sections , and I suppose not all will be relevant to everyone. I have started reading first part for my own knowledge (the professional is going to recommend that me and my son work through particular sections but I do not know which ones they will be) but it has sections on "how to use the book", "strengths and talents", "autism is a thing about me", "what is autism", "Why do I have autism" and "was I born with autism". Other chapters cover "ways of thinking", "The sensory experience", "Artistic talent", "people", "understanding", "thoughts", "communication", "school""friends", "feeling upset" (many topics covered within each chapter as workbook for parent and child to complete, and also info. for parents and teachers to read alone. She said that my son was a little younger than age it is intended but she thinks he will be able to understand it because he is quite intelligent. I think this is true, especially if I look first and am able to help him work through it. I found it cheapest at amazon.co.uk, and it was delivered in a couple of days.. Has anyone else on the forum seen or used this book? Perhaps you could see if you can hire it from a library to have a look before you commit to buying it???? I also agree with other posters that these things should not have been said to him at all, and you should find out who it was who said this to him sounds like an angry adults comments rather than a childs comments (my opinion)
  15. This is an issue we have been wondering about also. We did not know there was something significantly different about our eldest till he was just over two (as soon as he could walk he was always on the go and used to have tantrums if you stopped him doing something and certain behaviours before that age were just written off as with him being an only child who did not mix much with other young children we had no one else to compare to and just thought he was being a typical toddler). My second son is just over 1, and as a baby was a happy little chappie mostly (though more demanding that my eldest was at that age!). Now he too is starting to get around more and over the past few months has started with having tantrums, banging his head on the floor and trying desperately to get away when we try to dress him (has no issues with being naked ) and he has bitten us a couple of times (this was a MAJOR issue with our eldest at one time, but he did not start biting until he was about 2 and at a nursery). I say sometimes when C is having a tantrum that it is just like J used to be. Is that what all kids are like at that age though??? Note their is a 6yr age gap so it is not that the youngest is copying the eldest - Well, I dont think thats the case at least -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  16. Jonhathan I think your postings are interesting and valid therefore you should continue to post. If your replies were so wrong someone else would have said so - and no one else has, <'> so your input is really good - please keep contributing!
  17. Hello This week myself, my husband and my son went to the Elizabeth Newson centre in Nottingham for an assessment to confirm the diagnosis of PDA, This centre is expert in Autism, Development disorders and communication disorders. It was a long assesment and very thorough. Tney carried out a number of test and assessments relating to communication and social aspects of his personality and they confirmed that the PDA diagnosis was correct and they are sending us a comprehensice report about our son, which will include ways to help him etc. It was excellent and we are so glad we were given this opportunity to visit this centre. I still have no positive opinion on whether this is separate (but related) to ASD or just one part of ASD but I think that their advice and opinion is very important and valid..... would still like to see more people's opinions !!! Debbie
  18. we are going to florida in a couple of weeks and I think I will take my sons DLA letter, and the diagnosis letter to see if we can get these passes - he goes crazy when in queues and gets really irate. We made him wait in Disney Paris, but it did not make for a particularly pleasant holiday! It would be a lot easier to have to not wait so long for a ride....
  19. Congratulations, hope he really gets a lot out of it, <'> <'> also think its great how everyone offers support and help to others on this site! Everyone needs a hand or a sympathetic ear at some time in their life and it is forums like this that keep me (and I am sure others) sane. I do not post an awful lot - not always sure what to put, but think it is great!
  20. Viper I am so sorry you were not accepted. <'> <'> My son who is 7 still h as issues with poohing on the toilet (does not use nappies just holds it in so long that the soft stuff leaks into his pants - a couple of weeks ago I found about 12 pairs of pants hidden behind his bed that he had hidden because they were soiled and he knows we keep asking him to go to the toilet. I hope you find someone to consult about the issues - I think seeing your GP would be a good idea - they may be able to refer you to someone who can help (though keep trying the house or what about little angels - I remember reading a post from someone who had been rejected for one programme but accepted on the other (Debbie?)
  21. Yes congratulations and best wishes to you all
