  2. Hi Tabz, can your mum see faces? There is a condition called prosopagnosia or face blindness associated with ASCs which means a person may be completely functionally blind to faces, just seeing a blur or one feature at a time. Usually they don't realise they are supposed to see a whole face, even where they can see pictures of faces in 2D (some can do this others can't). It makes recognising people and reading and responding to emotion very difficult. PM me if you want to know more, if you run a search for prosopagnosia on the forum there are several threads Zemanski

more lyrics? here you go I don't want any trouble. I don't want to make any waves. I don't want any conscience. And I don't wanna be brave. I've kept my distance. My feelings have never been shown. I know that I've been walking fences, Denied what I have known. I carry chains. (I carry chains.) Heavy, heavy chains. (Chains that are made.) I carry chains (I carry chains) 'round my feet. I feel the weight (I feel the weight.) Chains are the different things that should not be hanging on me. I put my conscience under a stone, the stone under the ground. Walked from where I had left it. I hoped it couldn't be found. My conscience persisted. It's a haunted seed I have sown. Calls me out from the distance And it just won't leave me alone. I carry chains. (I carry chains.) Chains that are made. (Chains that are made.) I carry heavy chains. (I carry chains.) Talk about the weight. (I feel the weight.) Chains are the temporary things that should not be hanging on me. n
  4. Funding is not your concern, the school may not use funding issues to determine appropriate provision and if one school can do dual registration and manage the funding successfully so can another - it's their problem, not yours. I don't know much about dual registration and how it works in practice but if it is right for A then go for it. Zemanski
  5. This will get worse if you don't deal with the anxiety As a first step I would say don't formally take him out of school this stage - get a sick note and a referral to CAMHS as others suggest - if you just take him out then you can run into legal trouble unless you deregister him properly, also if you degregister a this point the LEA have no responsibility to provide anything for him. Some people prefer this and it works for them but it is a huge committment, also it rules out specialist placements which might be available and might be the answer for him - a small unit or special school might suit him. Tez and I both decided we wanted the resources of the LEA to support our boys and it has been a struggle but both have had support from an LEA department called EOTAS (education other than at school) who provide tuition and sometimes placement in a small unit. Their aim is officially to reintegrate into mainstream but this should only happen if it is appropriate. Most parents don't know this is available but as a sick child suffering from anxiety your son would be eligible, once the school has the sick note and it is clear he will be absent for more than 15 school days they should contact EOTAS to set this up. This may work out or not, but at any rate it would give you time to explore options and make a decision for your boy in a considered way. just another option Zemanski

    Hi everyone

The MA is very hard work (again) and another 3 years - I'm on the PGC in AS which is counted as the first third and it is pretty tough but an excellent course. I'm toying with the masters but with Com out of school at the moment I don't think I can manage it just yet. PM me if you want to know more Zemanski

    is he?

Com did all those things except he couldn't follow a pointing finger due to visual perceptual difficulties - I'd go anyway if you have concerns, the waiting list is long enough as it is
  8. keep it however much improvement she makes, the first three years of high school are extremely difficult for our kids and she will need that support for the transition at the very least! plus without it you have no right to choose the school you want her to go to Zemanski
  9. we used to have a pair of special compasses, safety compasses of some sort. They looked like a plastic ruler with an adjustable pivot in the middle, they lie flat on the page - might be worth looking in school supplies catalogues Z

    is he?

if you have concerns it's better to start the process sooner than later good luck Z
  11. Com has 'marked sensitivity to failure' all over his reports from a very early age. We used to say: 'if at first you don't succeed, never, ever even think about trying it again!' makes life very difficult sometimes, doesn't it? Z
  12. You got it, jlp - from now on you will just see the numbers representing NC levels, they only put the P in so you know it is a pre-NC or P scale score. a mismatch of 25 centiles in something like spelling (which was where Com's mismatch was) can hold acheivement back - for Com it caused a lot of frustration that he couldn't spell as well as he wanted to and so his work was never perfect enough for him and he wouldn't write. We solved it by stopping all marking and then in Y3 introducing positive marking only, he still has problems with any criticism, however constructive and he's 14 now. Zemanski
  13. I'd agree, his Y1 scores are well into the average for his core subjects but probably not quite the level I would expect for a child with such high ability unless he has an uneven profile - you say that some of his scores are in the 99th centile, are any of his scores much lower? - this will have an impact on acheivement, Dot has verbal scores in the 99th centile but her phonemic awareness is in the 12th so her language on paper is just around average even though the school treat her as G&T, this is understandable for a child with severe dyslexia. This means that school does support her well even though she's acheiving average+ but then her senco is wonderful. The pivats scores are not comparable to NC levels. We used to use W meaning working towards NC level 1 but P scales were introduced to give greater definition to the scores of children at foundation stage and with learning difficulties. They start at P1 and the highest is P8, the next score is then level 1c, so yes his writing is below average as you expect but this is not particularly unusual for Y1, Com didn't get beyond W till he was at the end of Y2 but then got a 2 in his SATs, this was mainly because of his difficulty with making mistakes and refusal to cooperate with writig tasks I don't know what the PSD scores mean, if they are lower than average this does imply he should be getting support regardless of his acheivement
  14. Do change those locks - then at least you will have the ability to control when he comes and goes. Wish I had more to offer we're all thinking of you and sending you our strength take care of yourself Zemanski

  21. Me and Dot sing all the time (it's one of our stims) and Com gets so pissed off, it's great in the mornings now he isn't at school - we can sing to our hearts content while waiting for our very unreliable bus to school without him poking us every time we open our mouths Zemanski
