David Matthew Baker Report post Posted March 20, 2007 Worst Job: Data Entry for the Inland Revenue (makes me yawn just to think of it). Best Job: This is a hard one. I think it is a tie between the Autistic Special School I worked in doing supply and the Secondary School I worked at as a volunteer teacher in Kenya. Both I got on really really well with staff and students. In Kenya I even ended up spending half my time out there living with one of the other teachers and his family. Am off out there to visit them this holiday.
lorryw Report post Posted March 20, 2007 Working as a cleaner in a local Secondary school when my son was a baby and the mortgage rate was 15%. The boys toilets were dreadful. I would run in, with my eyes half closed and holding my breath, squirt cleaning stuff around, flush the urinals and slam the door behind me. I love being a TA (most of the time) although I do have days when i give serious thought to becoming Johnny Depps personal assistant. Lorainex
smiley Report post Posted March 20, 2007 (edited) Lorry Mr Depp would be delighted to have you as his PA..... Best; Fabulous nannying job (hours were pants, but still..), lurvely merc to drive, work credit card , membership to some fabby places , mingling with the oh-so-famous .............but actually, mainly the three gorgeous little lads . I bumped into the eldest lad the other day, he's taller than me with a tash . Felt sooooooo old! But, he remembered so many things from when i looked after him, was a great feeling to be a happy part of his childhood (he remembered us sliding up and down his mums new wooden flooring ) . Worst; Ironing . I had four jobs at one point, the worse being ironing from home - about five hours each evening - after a long day at work/s Edited March 20, 2007 by smiley
Kathryn Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Great thread! Worst job... Ann Summers HQ . As a temp I survived just one afternoon taking orders from party hosts. I was so slow at inputting the data the customers kept getting cross with me and putting the phone down. And I was 6 months pregnant. I was rather glad to be fired at the end of the day. Best job... the one I'm still looking for. And which is just around the corner, I'm convinced of it! K x
bid Report post Posted March 21, 2007 (edited) Worst job: one summer when I was 18 I worked in a dog beauty parlour I had to spend all morning from about 6am scrubbing dog's bottoms and de-fleaing them And I think I got something like 75p an hour Best job: can't decide between my present job in social care at a residential special school or my original job in my previous existence before I had children when I was an archaeologist! pearl Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Best job: the one I'm doing now, working in a university library. Much better than ordinary libraries. The customers still insult you but they are intelligent insults Worst job: picking mushrooms. Apparently I was a natural, but I only lasted half a day. You have to figure out when they are ready as they dont go red like tomatoes. And they grow in s**t. After several hours it encrusted my fingers like oven gloves, we retired to a concrete hangar for lunch (no washing facilities) when one of the women said she'd no intention of working on CHRISTMAS DAY I found the farmer & told him to pay me for what I'd done, then legged it sharpish. Tally Report post Posted March 21, 2007 All my jobs have been in supermarkets. Mostly it's OK. There haven't been any really horrible jobs. My favourite job was looking after my friend's baby one day a week. The baby was lovely to look after, really content, and old ladies used to come up to me and say, "isn't she lovely," and they were right.
bid Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Hi Hev Sadly I don't work in a head shop (as we used to call them in the the distant days of my hippy-dippy youth ), although I do buy joss sticks and crystals and things Shall I tell you who else is a bit of an old hippy at heart?? I work at a residential special school for kids and young adults with severe epilepsy and related SLD, including autism. I work full-time as waking night staff, and I love it Archaeology...I loved that too. I worked in a university museum and I specialised in Ancient Greek archaeology, specifically the Minoan period (be quiet, Flozza! ). I didn't do it for very long because I had Auriel, so couldn't really go off on digs anymore Boho
something vague Report post Posted March 21, 2007 My best job is most cetainly the one I do now.....TA in an autism unit. The only drawback is the the holidays.........too long My worst job..........nursery officer in a nursery where the staff were so obsessed with teaching the children 'social skills' (using knife and fork, putting coat and MANNERS ergggh) that they didnt have time left to have fun. Hand print pictures were made with NO MESS .........simply paint the hand, stamp it on paper, send it off to be washed. ooops was there a child attached to that hand? a one that wants to explore n be creative...............oh no not allowed!!! Do I sound bitter? I dont know how I 'The Queen of Chaos' managed to survive the 6 months I worked there!! SV

Frangipani Report post Posted March 28, 2007 (edited) WORST JOB Modelling anyone that says its a fun job is a liar.... had to be in bed by 7pm as you would be on locations for photoshoots at 4am in the morning. Spend four hours getting knots out of your hair from teasing it for a fashion parade, being made to swim in fridge cold water for a photoshoot, I could go on and on. Certainly not a glamourous profession, as photographers try to hit on you and fashion designers treat you as if you are an air head. Only fun part was the girls going out to have a winge about it all afterwords. Vanity vanity vanity watching other models would make you laugh as some really thought they were Gods gift and constantly on a diet even though you are under weight. I remember one of my friends laughing at me as my lunch one day consisted of a tub of alfalfa sprouts as the camera puts on 5 kg. stupid I know.... BEST JOB: Accountant for an IT company, I got to take a laptop home and was able to do 3 - 4 hours at home, very flexible and great team, they were like one big happy family, constantly up training us and positive, I do miss them they were awesome. But I really should say the best job I ever had was my kids. Edited March 28, 2007 by Frangipani
