bid Report post Posted April 2, 2009 Thank you all again! Just looking at Stella's thread about OJ and his beautiful singing...that's what makes our forum so special: we cheer each other on and give each other a hug when needed Just one serious point: the reason Meg is still alive is really down to the fact that the driver was doing below the 30 MPH speed limit. Her accident has really made me review my driving habits and I've had to be honest with myself and admit that I often go over the limit, especially when the road is quiet, etc. I know the driver has been badly affected by knocking Meg down...and they did nothing wrong at all, she just stepped out without looking. How much worse would any of us feel if we had been going over the limit? Serious stuff over...working my way down a bottle of red after 6? nights on a hospital camp bed! Thanks again you lovely lot! <'> <'> Bidx

Karen A Report post Posted April 3, 2009 Serious stuff over...working my way down a bottle of red after 6? nights on a hospital camp bed! Thanks again you lovely lot! <'> <'> Bidx Six nights dry eh.I could not drink last night becuase J is away skiing with the school and I needed to drive him to school at 0400.I had to remember to leave the red alone....six nights sounds like a long time. I do think you are right about speed limits. In my area speed cameras now operate on many local roads.I have been surprised how often my speed creeps over 30 now that I take more notice under threat of a fine.Karen. bid Report post Posted April 3, 2009 (edited) She's finally been able to have a bath (cunningly wrapped cast in cling film!) and a hair wash (she had a scalp wound glued, so had to keep her hair dry) so she feels a bit more back to normal now She's being brilliant at doing as much for herself as she can, like putting on her hand splint, etc She's settled on the sofa with a couple of new books, and I'm absolutely exhausted! Bid Hi.Helpful hint learned here last year. There is a company that make special covers with a seal at the cuff in different sizes to protect plasters etc.We used one last year.Very good rapid delivery on phone order and they are great.Ben went swimming with one on holiday last year and had no problem at all. PM me if you want details and I will find a number for you. Ben soon adapted. The biggest problem was stopping him doing things he was not supposed to like using his plaster as a weapon in play fights.Karen. jb1964 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 Only just read this Bid - glad to see she's home safe and fingers and toes crossed that everything heals pretty quickly. Hope you're ok too - it's things like this that really put's everything into perspective and it usually hits you a while afterwards - just in case you suddenly find yourself feeling pretty weepy. pookie170 Report post Posted April 4, 2009 Lordy, Bid, I only just read this- I'm so darn glad Meg's gonna be alright! Ooh, these offspring creatures, they don't half put you through the wringer, eh? I had a similar accident when I was a wee girl, I stepped right out from behind the bus cos I could see my Dad at our living room window, the bus stop being opposite our house and all. I thought he was waving so I scooted out, grinning and waving back. Turns out he was motioning at me to try and say 'Go back!!!', but I misread it and as a result I got very friendly with the front end of a ford escort very quickly! I got off lightly, with severe bruising (it took a week to appear!) and concussion, but the old man who hit me went into severe shock and needed as much assistance as I did! Like Meg, the docs reckoned if the car had been doin 30 or over, I'd have been a goner for sure. I have certainly been guilty of speeding from time to time, but hand on heart, I cannot bring myself to go through a built up area at anything over 25 mph....... and when I pass a bus or ice cream van that has stopped, I'm over-cautious...... Bid, I hope her recovery is swift (the bionic hand thing sounds way cool though!)- and that your poor nerves recover swiftly too!! Hugs n' stuff, Esther x

bid Report post Posted April 14, 2009 (edited) Just seen this, Bid, how are things now? <'> K x Not so great, TBH...thank you for asking <'> She is still in quite a lot of pain, especially at night. She's also still very frail, and walking is difficult. I don't think there's any way she will be going back to school next week, and when she does go back I think it will have to be half days to start with. She's also quite low in herself. Tally Report post Posted April 14, 2009 Sorry to hear that Bid. Do you think it might help if some of her friends could pay a short visit? Maybe even going out for a short drive would cheer her up a bit. My brother's friend had a bad accident a few years ago, and those things really cheered her up while she was recovering. Maybe even going out for a short drive would cheer her up a bit. My brother's friend had a bad accident a few years ago, and those things really cheered her up while she was recovering. She has had visits from school friends, but the last one had to be cancelled because she felt too unwell Yesterday she sat in the garden, and I think today DH may take her for a short drive (I'm at work catching up on coursework again ) Thank you guys for your kind thoughts, it does make a difference <'> I feel pretty low too about the nerve damage, although I know even if her hand never recovers it's a small price to pay for still having her. bid Report post Posted May 1, 2009 On the down side, the consultant thinks she may have scoliosis (unrelated to the accident). She's being seen again in a couple of months to check for this.
