Hectorshouse Report post Posted October 2, 2005 It took just under a year, but we had to go down the private route, the nhs waiting time was 18mths to 3 years for initial assessment ... at that time T was a permanently exploding bomb, school was hell, home was hell, and I couldn't wait, I was fortunate in that my partners parents paid for his assessments. What I wish I had known about then was BIBIC, which is a charity and does the complete range of assessments over a 2-3 day period, it does cost but there are burary's available to those on low incomes. We haven't done it .. yet, giong later in oct as a follow up to everything else that has been going on. But those that I now that have, thought it fantastic but very draining, worth every penny. Elanor Report post Posted October 2, 2005 I answered 0-6 months - but we also went down the private route. The waiting list for the start of diagnosis was 20 weeks.
Malika Report post Posted October 2, 2005 Hi Voted 6months 1year because that is the time it took from when I talked to my GP to get a referal up to the DX report from neurodevelopmental unit. But it took more than 2 years to get some concern and a letter from the school to give to my GP. All the best. Malika.
jayjay Report post Posted October 2, 2005 Hi we are still in process of my son being diagnosed but so far 1 and half years and counting.
Flora Report post Posted October 2, 2005 I ticked 3 years and above because it took me from when my son was 2 until he was a few weeks away from being 9 before anyone took me seriously. (even then I ended up paying for a private psychologist assessment before getting refered by GP. However, once I had a private ed psych report it took about 6 months for child psychiatirst to confirm dx. Lauren

denise2 Report post Posted October 2, 2005 I guess we were really lucky. Paediatrician told us at appointment ( for which we waited 3 months). It was confirmed by a psychologist within a month. We were told he was "classic" Asperger's which was maybe why it was so quick. Denise
wishingwell Report post Posted October 2, 2005 It took 0-6 months; Once I had the names and telephone numbers of the paediatrician & child psychologist I phoned them weekly (maybe more.) I told them my son was at risk and urgent attention was required, the school could not cope and nor could my child. They must have got tired of my voice. His statement was treated in the same manner, I expected to be told about the ADHD but the words autistic shock me. wishingwell

Lynden Report post Posted December 7, 2005 We've been fairly lucky I think. We've been almost bang on 12 month from our first REAL concerns about his development till formal diagnosis. I did get the paranoid mother thing for a few months when I started saying I had concerns but it wasn't long before I was taken seriously and would have been sooner but we moved house and area in that time.
