If everything was done right for him with adequate support then mainstream. Senior school however I believe matters may change. Play it by ear I suppose.

This is probably going to sound daft, but I really don't know

Alex is 16 now, during his school life we've tried

Mainstream - disaster.

Mainstream with ASD unit - disaster.

Special school - we had a look at some which were unsuitable for Alex, but he really didn't want to go to one anyway.

Home education - I didn't feel it was a good idea for either Alex or myself.

Other - The education package that Alex has now is working well, but he only does 7-8 hours of lessons per week.

I would like a specialist provision rather than special school.

I think that so long as the education fits the child then the setting is not so important.

However, wherever our kids are, crowded noisy large schools are not the answer.

For dd it has to be special school all the way, mainstream couldn't cope with her and she couldn't cope with mainstream. Too many kids per class, too much noise, not enough structure etc etc. and not enough understanding for my liking.

He's in mainstream now but idealy, I'd prefer he had access to an ASD unit. At this school there is only an EBD unit in the junior section, nothing in the infants section at all but then i don't think an EBD unit is what he needs! :( Once I have the dx confirmed, I'll probably push for an ASD unit which is in another school I have approached regarding getting T transferred to.

My son wouldn't be able to cope in a big mainstream school, the one he is in has about 9 pupils per year average so its not too bad. He has been to a special school for a holidays playscheme today and says he wants to go there tho :( Had to let him down gently that he can't.
