something vague Report post Posted March 21, 2006 Waccoe <'> , I've found someone else who listens to Elliott Smith, I became a tinsy bit obsessed with his music couple of years ago and was devastated when i realised that he is dead now XO is my favourite album and Tomorrow Tomorrow and Oh Well OK are the most beautiful songs ever written in my opinion By the way for those of you who like Pink Floyd, Ambulance ltd have just released an Ep which features a cover of Fearless (from Meddle). I think its very good but then I'm biased, am a big fan of Ambulance ltd Simon dont let Baddad know you listen to YES, he'll take the P mercilessly. BTW, I like Billy Bragg too only wish he could sing in key more often SV
littlenemo Report post Posted March 23, 2006 This month's favourites: Green day - American Idiot (excellent for doing housework to) Lee "Scratch" Perry podcast They Might Be Giants podcast Elvis Costello live '77 Orbital - Dublin & Amsterdam 1999 Vivian Stanshall - Rat Juggler and all this talk of Rush has got me listening to them again for the first time since Permanent Waves, specifically The Appliance of Science (Live 1980) - the 3 drumkit drum solo was much better seen than heard, though. Can anyone recommend any comedy thrash/punk/metal (other than Me First and the Gimme Gimmes )?
something vague Report post Posted March 23, 2006 Nemo, What is podcast? Is it the same as a compilation? I'm confused. I went to see Elvis Costello in the late '70s, he was brilliant. He did a cover of the Dusty Springfield song 'I just dont know what to do with myself'. It was fantastic and really suited his voice. That is still one of my 'special' memories. It isn't on the live '77 album by any chance? SV
littlenemo Report post Posted March 23, 2006 Hi SV Podcast is just a pretentious word for an mp3 file. The only difference is that they are usually done as a series (one a week/month) sort of like a radio show. TMBG and Scratch are both monthly, and using a program like iTunes, you can get your computer to automatically download the latest one when it comes out. The most poular pocast in the world is In Our Time, the radio 4 'explain something monumentally complicated in 43 minutes' show which, imho, means there's hope for the world yet. I saw Elvis in 77 too, and remember him doing ' I just don't know...' (he also did it on The Old Grey Whistle Test, I seem to remember). It was the high point of the gig, as most of his own material sounded better on the record (maybe it was just a bad night for him). Unfortunately this gig is a recording of his first gig in the States, so it's almost all Armed Forces tracks. It's a very slick performance, though, and has had me dredging up memories from when I was nicknamed 'Elvis' just cos I had the same glasses and haircut nemo
~Jonathan~ Report post Posted March 25, 2006 And Rush! Are they still around, I used to have All th World's a Stage when I was a teenager. Yep, still going. I was fortunate to see them play back in 2004 to celebrate their 30th anniversary playing together. I mean as Neil Peart/Geddy Lee/Alex Lifeson because John Rutsey was the drummer before that. They're in the process of working on their next album which should be out either later this year or early next.
