Recommended Posts

hi, my 9yr old AS son keeps feeling like he's being watched from behind,he's obviously scared by this, I have been reassuring him that he's not being watched but I really don't know what's going on.

Has anyone experienced anything like this with your AS kids?

This has been happening for quite a long time, probably about a year but he only mentions it about once a month. Any ideas would be appreciated. :(

have you spoken to any specialists about it? they might be able to give you more info. if it's really worrying him you could try telling him it's a guardian angel keeping an eye on him, see if that makes him feel any better.

Our son wont stay in a room on his own at the mo this has been going on for bout 3 months now and he says he is scared of monsters, ghosts and death. It has got to the point where if he cant see me he is screaming and running to find me so now he just sticks with me at what ever i am doing even giving up his playstation so i know it is bothering him bad. The autism lady who came to see me advised to just ignore it completely and let him follow me as she feels that it has now turned into an obsession so at the mo am trying that. hope that helps.

Thanks, that helps a lot. It's funny you mention playstations, my son hasn't given his up yet but he did say he keeps losing on his game because he has to keep looking around to see if anyone is behind him, he finds that really annoying!!

Kinky, I had considered saying something along those lines (guardian angel) but decided it could be too hard to explain, and he used to be obsessed with death and dying so I don't want to bring that back again,

I think the thought of anyone or anything watching over him whether good or bad would worry him.

I haven't mentioned this to any health professionals, mainly because I never think of it when I'm there, if it gets worse though I will make an appointment.

This may sound really strange, but would wearing a hat help, it may help if he feels more protected around his head.My son went through a similar quirk. He wears his hood up alot.It made my son feel more cocoon and less vulnerable.

It could be a sensory issue like Suze says but........have you considered taking him to see a reputable psychic?

Not kidding here, he may just have a sixth sense. Have a look at photos of him (like in the film Sixth Sense) and see if there are any odd light anomalies in the photos which have a repetitiveness about them - particularly behind or to the side of him.

If you don't feel daft doing it, try asking your child to describe the "person" who is watching him - it may well be that "Guardian Angel" or Spirit Guide and you may recognise the description - Spirit Guides often take on a younger version of themselves.

AS children often have a problem with death anyway because it is unpredictable which is why they become so obsessed about it but it could be he really does "see dead people".

I am Clairsentient - I have the ability to sense spirits and occasionally to see them too, but my mind has to be pretty vacant to see them. I instinctively know when spirits are about and where vortexes lie - it took me a long time to find a house to live in which is not haunted (our current home) - you wouldn't believe how many houses have a spirit memory in them. I can't speak to them like Derek Akorah or Colin Fry I can only sense bits and pieces about them. When we took over the care of our young nephew he came with two spirit guides who were very evident - they have now stepped back which gives me great confidence in the childs' future in our care.

Daisy - definitely got me interested too.

When my daughter was younger (probably around 4-7yrs) she would very often say who was that in the hall - or what were they doing by there (referring to an elderly lady or a boy).

She also for a very long time used to say to me why has your colour changed - you've got a blue one today - or daddy's orange I don't like that, etc...

During one of the appointments with the CPN my daughter brought up the colour thing again and she said that some AS kids can be extremely sensitive to this kind of thing

Hi JB,

Auras are a different kettle of fish again really. I'll post this link but if the mods don't approve then I'll PM it to you. It's all about aura colours.

http://www.paralumun.com/auracolour.htm

Apparently we can all see auras it just takes practice, so I guess the sensitivity issue would be strong here too.

I've always been a bit of a New Age child really - hubbs and I considered being Travellers when we first got together but then the real world intervened and we just got swept along with it really. I enjoy reading spiritual magazines and watching the more genuine programmes. One's with such titles as "When Ghosts Attack...." I avoid like the plague!

Did you ever see "Ghosts caught on Film" - what a load of twaddle.

David and Matthew both see people walking past our kitchen window. The window leads to a brick wall. David also sees a guy standing at the foot of our stairs on a regular basis - I can not see him but I do sense him. David feels people in his room and this was one of the problems we had when he was younger and could not explain why he was so afraid. He now accepts this - even though he's still not happy with it. Today he says he saw a child dressed like Oliver Twist walk past the window. I had told him not to mention the people to Matthew incase it frightened him. However a few months ago while David and I were busy cooking tea Matthew walked into the kitchen and said 'Oh look those people have just walked past the window again' David was elated and yelled 'You can see them to?' At this point I interjected that 'of course he can see them too! David calls his sensations De ja Vu. He can often predict things before they happen and often say he dreamt them before they did happen.

Many years ago I would have sent for the white van and the men wearing white coats. However I had a very strange experience when David was a very small baby. I woke one night and seen the most beautiful little boy standing swinging David's crib. He was wearing a nightshirt and had beautiful blue eyes and blonde hair. When he realised that I could see him he just vanished. The image has never faded it is imprinted on my mind. To the point that from Matthew being a toddler I just knew where I had seen the face before. Spooky or what ?

OK you can all call for the Van for me now if you wish.

It would be a pretty crowded van I reckon Carole

I think the imprint is very true, once you've seen a spirit you never, ever forget them or what they look like. My most memorable spirit was a page boy witnessed at Warkworth Castle. One of our hobbies is historical re-enactment and I saw him one night when we were kipping in the place. He was probably about ten years old and very curious - no name though.

Another I remember very clearly was a young girl looking out of a window in a restaurant in Crawcrook - the restaurant had just been done out and the upstairs was formerly an attic where the stairs had been removed. She was looking out of the window waiting for someone and the name I received from her was clearly Isabella. I thought it was her name until I looked on the internet and discovered the Isabella Pit was near Crawcrook - think the person she waited for never came home - she's still waiting bless her.

I dream too. My worst was when I dreamt a young girl trapped either behind a wall or under floorboards - she tried to show me the house, it was a council house and I knew she was in Sunderland. It really freaked me out - next day they discovered the body of a girl who had been abducted found under floorboards in Sunderland. I knew instantly it was her in my dream - I still wish I'd known, maybe I could have saved her - that memory haunts me all my life.

I dream a lot of deaths - but only discover who they were afterwards. I dreamt my old priest crying over the body of a woman lying on a bed - next morning I told my husband (he was my boyfriend then) and he said "that's strange Father **** mother died last night."

I could go on ......... sweet dreams :D

Wow! The first thing his dad said was along the same lines, he's really into all that spiritual stuff, but I have no idea about all that kind of thing.

I suppose it's a nice idea, the thought of him being watched over by some kind of spirit guide or guardian angel. One things for sure, it's better than my initial reaction, that it was a mental health problem like paranoia or something. This has turned into a much more interesting thread though!!

That is allso amazing, I believe in all this too, my youngest son saw our neighbour in his garden a week after he had died, my son was only nearly 2 and was adamant it was him, he was waving at him and was able to show us exactly where he was and what he was doing.

His wife found it very comforting and my son still says he can see him sometimes 2 years on.

My eldest son is 11 and has AS/ASD he keeps telling me he hears voices when hes upset saying awful things and now says he sees skeletons telling him these things ("you will die" is a main one he hears)

Got room in the van for one more??!

I can usually tell if there is 'someone' in the room - usually down to name, but i cant always see them. Its never frightening - just abit weird IYSWIM.

M will sometimes say if he see's someone - though usually, it's the auras he see's much more clearly - and he has a very freaky six-sense, he can usually tell me exactly what i've done whilst he's been at school - or will go on and on about someone - then we hear somethings happened to them.

I know when someone close to me is hurt or very unhappy - god knows how - i just can. Strong feeling in the pit of my stomach. I drove my dad insane one evening when i was little, begging him to call my friend. He eventually called - and there had been a fire at her house - thankfully, all were well.

Strangest thing for me was seeing a psychic. I went along to one in a village hall with a friend. The lady knew everything about me  , she knew M's name, my name, date of birth, profession.... it went on and on... The only part that disappointed me was she didn't mention my grandad - who i was sure was with me alot of the time, i could sometimes feel his hands on my shoulders....... 'Bout 6 months later, a friend called - and said very sheepishly (i hadn't told anyone about 'grandad') that she'd been told her grandad was watching over a friend of hers, and described me perfectly. Curiosity got the better of her and she called me to check it out.....

Fascinating stuff!

FAB - not sure if this helps much!

I am glad someone here has linked in spectrum disorders with psychic ability or experience.

I am psychic myself ? this is something that has always ran on my mums side of the family, being psychic sounds very mysterious, in fact I see it as a neuro condition.

I don?t discount those who can see beyond what others see or what others feel, I do myself but Id do not consider that I have anything wrong with me. The brain must be seen a radio ? a receiver ? everyone?s brain is different and tunes in at a different level. On each of those levels different things can accessed. We must accept that as human beings we all quite literally see and hear the world different, like different radio shows.

I have undertook extensive research into being psychic, when I was 15 I underwent a psychic experience, which changed my life, I experienced something out of this world. It happened over a period of three years and left me questioning everything about the world and myself.

I myself suffer from a sleep condition ? I have noticed here people talking about Aspergers and sensory issues. I quite often wake at night with lights above me or shapes standing around the bed. Some people say these are hallucinations and I guess on one level they must be but over time I have come to understand how my brain works.

For instance when I am going to sleep, if I am really tired my brain trips over itself, subconsciously I am violently pulled forwards and I become conscious and aware, I pulled further forwards which is frightening, I am able to ear my own heartbeat. To the outside person I appear to be having a fit before I shake myself awake. Inside I am able to either slow down and stop inside my mind, in the blackness quietly meditating or I can come out of my body, drift over the bed and come back again.

This is very similar to something my mum can do. I am a very creative person by nature, my frequency if you like is highly tuned and I often sense, hear or understand things without knowing.

Of course medication, drugs can have an influence and Aspergers is no limit to the imagination, quite the opposite, generalising, the only area where an Aspergers person is meant to struggle is problem solving, thinking on your feet, and thinking out of the box, which I guess ties in with routine.

What I am trying to advise hear is that I have lived with this all my life, I do not consider it to be Aspergers Syndrome. Although I do believe the two can be linked. Children often have heightened senses, their minds are not polluted and as their brain develops they often hear and see things. Around the age of six, I had an ongoing series of nightmares where I thought I was awake in my room and people would appear from the walls to play with me. I thought nothing of it; looking back I can see that it was just me developing.

Psychic is a much overused and misunderstood term; to be psychic simply means an increase in the sense, using the 6th sense, which we had when we were intune with nature.

The downside to my condition, apart from how frightening it can be, for me and those watching is the tiredness and strain it places. A night?s sleep can be ruined after an episode ? sometime not, sometimes it quite pleasant to be able to construct your own dreams.

If anyone would like to further discuss sleep conditions, please feel free to PM.

The psychic term for this is astral projection.

Hi Label,

I see this is your first post so welcome to the forum.

What you say about the night-time and semi-conscious periods is probably common in many children which may explain night terrors etc. After my grandmother died son number 2 had nights and nights being woken by an old lady. Eventually he came down to me and said "mum I can't get to sleep because the old lady keeps talking to me."

I went up to his room, sat on the bed with him and said "Gran, you're frightening the child. Let him be and go to the light."

She did and didn't disturb him again.

I too had many nights as a child lying awake while a presence sat on the end of my bed, I wasn't frightened by them and realise now it was probably one of my own spirit guides - an uncle of mine - watching over me. He's still around now, still watching, still caring. I love him so dearly

I wish everyone could sense the spirit world - then perhaps the death of a loved one wouldn't be so traumatic for them. I feel no trauma for those that pass over to the other worlds - even those who don't believe find somewhere to call home in the next worlds.

If you're still having problems blocking them out then see a reputable psychic they will teach you barrier techniques.

Daisy

thank you for the introduction.

i spent 3 years with an excellent medium who straightened me out - i learnt a lot about my pyshic side and my emotions/sense and everything else. She kind of helped me grow up and become a human being with confidence, self belief and self esteem.

i personally belive the spirit world in a mutated reflection of this, though i have sat with mediums and talked with spirits who argue the opposite.

I am also aware that pyschic ability is tied in with mental health. As a 17 year old i spent a year addicted to the paranormal - I learnt a lot, but lost alot of myself. As a teen my home situation meant that I caused a poltergeist affect, which was difficult, very common amongst teens in puberty and going through emtional stress.

I have always been close to spirits, mediums describe me a gateway - becuase of my sleep thing I am very close to both sides of the coin.

I am not a great medium though and I am quite undiscplined. When I was 17 I had a choice, grow up and be a normal teenager or follow another path. I chose socialising, girls and drink. on other words, normal teenage growing up.

My sleep condition is always there and although I talk about it openingly - particualrly becuase I have suffered with my own mental health.

I am not the cleverest person alive, but I am pretty much able to suss out people immediately and i can also read people - know what thye are thinking, their mood etc. if you spend a lot of time with me, it is pointless lying about yourself - I just know people. Oh I am not really special and all powerful, just have this sense.

It's a side of me that those close know, yet complete strnagers don't, I live these two lives. i don't mind, I don't mind, it gives me an excellent creative streak!

My sleep condition i suspect is very common - I wish someone could share it becuase in a strnage way it is an amazing experience.

What about yourself, what are your experiences apart from the presence on the bed - I am going through another phase of lights watching me at night, they wake me up then rush towards me.
