Favourite Words

Recommended Posts

Sat on the bus on the way to work this morning I was thinking about pretty much nothing (as usual), texted Mrs TheNeil a couple of times and realised that some words just sound nice (to me). Anybody else like the sound of certain words? I don't mean, for example, 'chips' just because chips are nice but words that you just like to say/hear

Mine would be:

Hat

Hair

Handbag

Flange

Flaps

Paradigm

Or am I descending further into insanity?

Flange - excellent word!

Plinth has always been a favourite here

Largactyl - don't know what it's for, but it sounds wonderfully gothic.

Smoot - a commonly used (in this house) alternative to swearing

I wonder if all families adopt their own language!!!

We've got a few based on the funny things they said as toddlers

Doubla yogy (two yoghurts at once)

lana nana noo noo (banana)

Calpopol (calpol)

dWink (drink)

snuggly buggly (cuddle)

I won't go on but we've go loads of 'em. I've even accidently said them to strangers

I hadn't even realised that other people used nonsense words. A fave in the TheNeil household is 'shug' which is a hug between me and Mrs TheNeil (and we always refer to ourselves as 'Team Sh')

Huggle Buggle ~ cuddle

Nom noms ~ sweeties

Bo Bo bee bee peeps ~ sleep

Oh and not forgetting the nick names by hubby has for our kids

Twig ~ our eldest daughter, derived from Twiggy because she is so slim (he now calls her this permanently)

Mess ~ our youngest daughter, came from Messy Jess...now shortened....(he uses this all the time aswell)

Sooo embarrassing when we're out and he's shouting Mess or Twig, come here etc

Will have a longer think and add somemore later :D

We also have words that have stuck from when they were babies;

bockle - for a bottle

noo noo - dummy

But as for favourite words they would have to be:

delightful

dainty

enchanting

and Thierry Henry saying 'Va va voom!'

Hi im Hayden,

I have a thing about straight lines, if someone doesnt underline a word with a ruler it makes me cringe!! (i have AS). my fave words probably are

- peristalsis

- laminator

- amor

- summer

- yo kukomi (japanese for a karate kick) - im a brown belt!!

i cant think of any else. i hate the words for sexual organs, someone could have thought of some nicer terms!!

I'm there with 'flange' but lots of my other faves start with F too:

Filbert

Fulcrum

Ferkin

Frottage

Fumble

Flume...

G is for grunt, grout and gargle

H is for hallibut

I is for Indiscriminate....

Ooooohhhhh loads.... I'd better stop...

Fave pseud phrase is still Frank Zappa's 'conceptual continuity' (eat my aura, Dora)

I'll come back on 'family words' but a couple of quickies:

Billy- Bockle (bottle - babies for the use of!)

Bukiform (school uniform)

Spider Lasers (stabilisers, as found on a bike)

Scampion (scorpion)

doubt of the benefit (benefit of the doubt)....

L&P

Baddad (ben and dad) ;)

We use 'tuppence' too

Men's bits are always referred to as 'tommies' - don't ask me why :D
