darkshine Report post Posted December 14, 2011 Never seen the blind side - but love the other 3, haven't seen planes, trains & automobiles for years though! Green Mile is a bit depressing, but I still like it. Usual suspects is a great film - I thought the end was brilliant Another one from me is: con air

AdamJ Report post Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) When i want a laugh i always dig out Planes, trains & Automobiles. i just love this film A good weekend movie for me would be; The Green Mile, The Blind Side, The Usual Suspects [spoiler warning for The Usual Suspects] Do you remember the poster advertising The Usual Suspects? It was a picture of all the gang members lined up in an identity parade. I used to get the tube every day from West Kensington to Liverpool Street and on just about every poster at every station on the way, some joker had used a marker pen to draw a big arrow pointing to Kevin Spacey and the words "IT WAS HIM!!" What a killjoy! Anyway, that was one of my favourite films too. Also Kill Bill (especially Vol 1), any other Tarantino film, most Woody Allen movies, and most of Hitchcock's stuff, Shawshank Redemption, Schindler's List, most Pixar movies, the Bourne trilogy, The Matrix, Groundhog Day, Dumb and Dumber, The Life of Brian. Special plug also for Fanny and Alexander - the unedited version is over five hours long but it's a really lovely movie. . darkshine Report post Posted February 5, 2012 What's really great about this thread is that you can have lists with schindler's list contrasted with dumb & dumber - just think that's brilliant (I like most of them films too Adam - I've seen Shawshank so many times I can virtually write the whole script out!) matzoball Report post Posted May 5, 2012 Do you mean the movie you posted or the movie title I posted the movie i posted(paul posted it originally!) - my boyfriend thinks it's a brilliant movie but he has really effed up tastes! If anyone asks you to watch it - don't! Also NEVER watch A Serbian Film. NEVER.
Paul Armstrong Report post Posted May 7, 2012 I refuse to watch that movie. Anything that has a 10 minute graphic sexual assault isn't cinema to me... yes but it was one of the first films i watched that wasn't just because a parent, friend, or tv scheduling decided it. also it caught me in that teenage window where you're so receptive to media. if memory serves i'd read an article about the controversy it caused on its release in France, heard that Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk was doing the soundtrack (probably the only musical act that i'm still listening to a decade later), and was a member at the time of the Prince Charles Cinema so when they had a showing there was no way i wasn't front and centre. it's a tough film no doubt but you're skipping over how because of its reverse chronological order that all the unpleasantness is over by the film's last third and that the very worst of it is over by the second third leading to the last/first third where it's charming, funny, tragic, and reminded me of incredible stream of consciousness conversations and sparks of connection i've had and all leading into that dizzying closing scene in that Parisian park on a summer's day and the playing of Beethoven's 7th. it's a film that attacks you like Le Tenia does Alex but if you don't let the subject matter or aggressive camerawork put you off you're in for an experience the movie i posted(paul posted it originally!) - my boyfriend thinks it's a brilliant movie but he has really effed up tastes! If anyone asks you to watch it - don't! Also NEVER watch A Serbian Film. NEVER. me! i've strayed away from the video nasty scene as when they're to that extent it means they'll not get a cinema release outside of something like FrightFest and to be watching something like that at home... for example i've seen Irreversible twice both times at the cinema but almost a decade between viewings, had the dvd for all that time too but never watched it because as well as being one of those films that really needs to be seen at the cinema the thought of watching it at home just seems to much like masochism ah come on, A Serbian Film's fun! while everyone was getting all in a fuss over Human Centipede it was actually Serbian Film that had a bite to it. love how half the time when mentioning it to supposed film buffs i'm met with the response sans any humour of "but what's it called?". is essentially 8MM but on PCP last viewing of Irreversible i went to the audience was supes creepy. was a Kensington and Chelsea looking couple sitting a few seats over from me that had stepped straight out of a Laura Ashley catalogue, brought a picnic with them, and then spent the majority of the film making out. the worst was these handful of businessmen that turned up just as it was about to start and sat in the front row, THEY WERE ALL IDENTICAL LOOKING! suits, shaven heads, those funny pinstripe shirts where the collar's a different colour, at least six foot, and built like they lived on a diet of horse meat oh and here's the opening credits to the Irreversible director's follow up film, it's kinda like that Patrick Swayze film
matzoball Report post Posted May 7, 2012 Adam(my boyfriend) says that too about Irreversible - but I can't watch anything where there is graphic assault like that no matter how small a part of the movie it is. I point blank refused to go see Last House on the Left (the remake) for the exact same reason. A Serbian Film is just complete depravity and I get that it's supposed to really be about the goverment and the state of politics yadda yadda, but to me it's sensationalism for the sake of it. Just not my scene in any way whatsoever. Having been with Adam as long as I have, I have seen many an effed up movie but still found the good in it (Martyrs, IIchi the Killer, Frontieres) - but I have limits! Annnnnnnnnnnnyway... I can't wait to see this - one of my favourite groups does the soundtrack

I can't wait to see this - one of my favourite groups does the soundtrack understandable. as an aside in Last House on the Left it wasn't nearly to Irreversible's ten minute extent, had to see it as i'm a fan of Garret Dillahunt! I Spit on Your Grave (the remake) was a little much. low budget, nasty, and without any of the creative elements such as one half of Daft Punk or a handsome leading actor like the above two but it's done with a Hobo with a Shotgun (what's it about?) manic enthusiasm! but yeah maybe it could of done without the child stuff and the fusion of hardcore pornography and video nasty gore was unsettling see Martyrs was one that didn't sit well with me. oh hey let's induce beautification in a teenage girl by beating her every day to within an inch of her life. and there was me thinking looking up and to the right to be remembering something, not the last step before canonisation! did you see Kill List? ha! yeah anyways... Udo Kier hamming it up as per usual! what group, One Direction?

If anyone asks you to watch it - don't! Also NEVER watch A Serbian Film. NEVER. My question was so stupid!!! I think it was a moment of blindness as I didn't even read the second half of your sentence - if I had I would have realised what you meant - especially since there most definitely is not a 10 minute graphic sexual assult scene in What about Bob and for the total joking shame, one of these is due for me: I've never heard of any of those films (following your initial posting of the film you wouldn't watch)

steverogers Report post Posted May 3, 2015 A hard one, (no innuendo intended) as there are so many great films out there which I like. So I'll go with a film which I considered my favorite back when I was a teenager up until my early 20s... Drum Roll..... 'The Terminator' 1984 I also quite like the 2nd and 4th ones (also I'm looking forward to the new one as well) but the first one is the best for me.
