  1. Me three! J doesn't see why he needs to learn 'manners' - if they don't like what he does that's their problem!
  2. 101 secs 1st time - I was trying to get 33 too! 51 seconds second time
  3. 'I felt like my head was exploding' A 12-year-old pupil with autism describes his traumatic first year in a new secondary school Worrying as j goes up to secondary in september - we've got the annual review in a fortnight to decide his support - why do i feel stressed? http://education.guardian.co.uk/egweekly/s...1969412,00.html

    GOT IT!!!!!

Well done and congrats for getting the proposed statement Extremely woolly! The school will make the following provision ...- not should! Flexibly ... how can that be monitored and worked practically - could be used as 2 weeks of 2 1/2 hours and then a week of 25 hours ...!!!! What 'other' 'devolved and school based resources'? What quantity of assistance would this provide? I would suggest getting IPSEA to have a look ...

    Feeling uneasy

It's a marathon slog getting the statement sorted but you're doing well - just keep at them and don't take anything at face value
  7. So was ours - in the June ... still hadn't done anything until November when we chased them Worth checking up ...
  8. Hmmm ... some LEAs seem to be assuming that the school will provide the first 5 hours of support and they then 'top-up' with 20 hours on the statement to make up 25 hours of 'full time' support - is this waht the LEA is assuming? - if so then the 5 hours should be detailed in the 'school will provide' section of Part 3
  9. We're going down the OT route again due to sensory problems identified (again!) by the private EP .. it was ignored last time in J's statement and we spent 4 months battling to get SALT in J's statement that we left the OT stuff alone - getting a private OT report this time ...
  10. zilch learned to do without it like oxgirl
  11. May be of interest to some of the children (and adults!!!) http://www.nanoquest.ie/play.html
  12. <'> <'> <'> If he were mine I'd let him stay home but make sure he knows that this doesn't mean that he can always opt out of stressful situations (no point storing up trouble for the future! ) If the final statement hasn't arrived then I'd chase up the LEA and get them to at least confirm which school they are naming on the statement as well as pressurising them to get their act together and get it to you. ask them to deliver it by hand due to the Christmas postal system - parent partnership will often do this for parents. <'> <'> <'>
  13. Hope it goes well today hev - will be
  14. Have a great time ... - have you got any space for another???? I could do with getting away too!
  15. The problem with many NHS reports is that they are resource-led ... if the OT says he would benefit from 1/2 hour per week OT working on gross and fine motor skills then the OT then has to find that 1/2 hour per week - resources are finite and so they do not recommend further input for those who are over a certain level - even if they do show a deficit in motor skills ... I know that sounds cynical but such is life - you could always query the report and ask the OT to add what their recommendations for therapy would be if resources were no problem whilst underlining the proviso that their department would not be able to resource the recommendations.
  16. Not even sure I understand it ... What did it actually say in the report recommending OT? I would be wary of having a number put on this in the statement - what if 6 sessions aren't enough? How about something like ... Weekly/Fortnightly/Monthly Occupational Therapy, of a minimum duration of ??? minutes, by a qualified and experienced children's Occupational Therapist with specialist training in Sensory Needs. How often are the sessions? Could be once a year with this wording ... To be followed by ... when exactly - six months later???? Six years later??? sixty years later ??? (you get my drift ...) Surely the OT needs reinforcing while it is ongoing as well - rather than afterwards as a sort of add-on Occupation Therapy to be reinforced, in the educational setting, by programmes designed and monitored (minimum termly in education setting ) by the occupational therapist but delivered by education staff. Don't know if this helps as I don't know the specifics but I would look carefully at the wording of the rest of the statement to make sure that the rest is a bit more specific than this bit

  19. Reuby2 - good to see you again but sorry things are rough at the moment. Hard though it may sound things will get better - good counselling draws this stuff out and gets it sorted but it hurts while it's happening. No real advice but lots of <'> <'> <'> <'> <'> <'> <'> <'> <'> <'> and feel free to off load on us lot here We're broad shouldered - (Note: must cut down on the doughnuts!) and there's always someone around <'> <'> <'> <'> <'> <'>
