    Feeling uneasy

OK - CoP here: So - the Code says they should take this advice into account ... you could query why they do not accept the opinion of your independent assessor ... be good if you could have a list of their experience in this area ... you probably alrready have HOWEVER They are assessing educational needs - not making or confirming medical diagnoses ... so you could quote this section of the CoP and ask why they feel it necessary to have a medical diagnosis when it is educational needs they are assessing not medical ones OK - back to the Code again - Write to them again and say that you are asking for the clock to be stopped in relation to the proposed statement as you are not in receipt of the full appendices. Explain that you will not be able to comment on the statement until these appendices are received. End by thanking them for their speedy reply to the letter as you all have xxxx's education as your concern and you know they would wish there to be a speedy conclusion in order to make sure that xxxx receives the support he so obviously needs.
  3. Emily - thank you so much for the insight that you give us into our children
  4. <'> <'> <'> Roll on the new school building and his move to a school where people understand
  5. Exactly the same here - it wasn't until the hyperactivity was under control that it became obvious that there was 'something' else ... then we got a dyspraxia diagnosis finally topped off with HFA. J's present consultant said if the ASD had been dignosed first then the ADHD diagnosis wouldn't have been given as it was seen as a co-morbid condition
  6. You should have had a letter acknowledging your request .. not just an Ed Psych report that appears to be designed to fob you off... . You can send in reports from other professionals you have had dealings with - especially good if they refute some of the points of the Ed Psych. The following is from the ACE website regarding Statutory Assessment ... have a read and see whether you think the LEA are trying to put you off rather than agree to an assessment... http://www.ace-ed.org.uk/advice/booklets/Assessment.html
  7. Brilliant - well done that MP! Hope this is the start of better times for you Hev <'> <'> <'> <'> <'>
  8. Way way too vague and Helen's right - there shouldn't be a school named in the proposed statement. You should state the school that you want named and then have a meeting to discuss it if the LEA do not want to name it . Be aware that at some independent schools you may have to pay for the support ....... worth checking out ...
  9. Just discovered this in my TV listings - watching the first one now
  10. Try ringing IPSEA and getting some advice from them too
  11. Have you read Welcome to Holland? Sums it up well on my view ... http://www.nas.com/downsyn/holland.html Better get the tissues out though
  12. Sounds like they are backtracking and trying to cover their backs here ... OK - much as they are being pains in the proverbial here - and it would be great to keep pushing at them to get this sorted - don't forget that you are about to receive a proposed statement and you may not agree with everything in it These are, regrettably, the very people you will have to be dealing with to ensure that the correct provision is in the statement and that it is watertight. This means - unfortunately - that you would be wise not to get their backs up too much now ... How about ... Doesn't actually agree with them but keeps them slightly sweeter whislt still keeping your evidence on record - it also means that they would look to be delaying if they don't get on with sending out the proposed statement!!!
  13. Probably consulting the legal department
  14. Hi and welcome Shamu <'> <'> <'> <'> Take things easy and take them one day at a time - see if there is a family support worker available (probably via portage) to put you in contact with support groups. Take time as a family to be together and adjust to your new situation - don't fret about nursery or house moves - your DS will cope - especially as you as parents love him so much and want the best for him. As for toys etc - my lad loved (and still loves!) things that spin, balls that roll down shutes, revolving lights and Thomas the Tank - he'd watch videos again and again (although we had to screen out any crashes!) Chin up and ask away if you've any questions <'> <'> <'>

    School...

This is an excerpt from the report by the independent EP on my son The rest is fairly similar and doesn't show the school in a very favourable light ho-hum
  17. You're not alone - although I only have the one so can't really speak - but I do hear this from friends with more than one. <'> <'> <'> <'> <'> <'> <'> <'> <'> <'> <'> to get you through the next minute/hour/day/noght/week/fortnight/month/year/decade/century/millenium (delete as appropriate)
