  2. I had a very similar list with me when I went to GP about my daughter. We were refered very quickly, and got an immidiate diagnosis. (ADHA and AS) Having the diagnosis has really helped us, as we now know what we are dealing with. aslo the medication we got for her ADHD is amazing, and at 4pm, rather than being hysterical after scool, doing no homework and causing uproar in the family, I now have my fabulous girl back. She is calm, bright and has made a new friend. Really push for a referal, don't give up, good luck at the appt, let us know how it goes. Harmony
  3. Likewise, I don't think you should worry, but in my limmited experience, it could be a case of them feeling that some medication could hep. harmony x

  7. My daughter was diagnosed privately, the same consultant and his team also work for NHS, but one or two days a week they work privately. We have health insurance, so not sure of cost, but get your referal first, then phone the consultants secretary, and ask him/her of costs, they will be able to tell you. I think it will be around 150 for a first appt, then about 120 there after.
  8. Hi, Hypermobility has plagued me all my life, due to lax joints, my handwriring was dreadful, the muscles (low tone) and joints couldn't support the nerves from brain to hand correctly, hence my fine motor control was dreadful. my daughter has had this from birth aswell, I picked up on her poor pen control, and long loose limbs when she was 2 or 3, eventually she was diagnosed with dyspraxia (one of the main features of this is hypermobility) She has since been diagnosed with AS. I have managed to aleviate many of the side of effects of my hypermobility by practicing yoga, to strengthen the muscles to support the nerves. To strengthen bones (bone loading) to improve balance and co-ordination. I can now control my lax joints almost completly. My DD has begun yoga now, and we are already noticing that she is gaining muscle, and her balance has improved. All very interesting stuff Harmony x
  9. HIYA I think what you are going through is quite normal. You have a real positive though. He tells you he needs to go, which is brill. There is a connection with dyspraxia and bladder control (don't know if your son has that) my daughter has AS dyspraxia (motor control issues) and ADHD. She is 12, we saw consultant re bladder who gave us a series of excercises to try, where you hold on for ten mins longer, then get a reward then another ten etc etc. Best tried on a day when you are not too busy. It worked for a bit with DD, but now she is 12 she won't do it. DD always is wet, she wets her knickers a bit two or three times a day. Night time she is sodden, and will not wear pull ups. (real nightmare for all of us, today i got rid of matress number 5 or is it 6) The connection with dyspraxia and wetting goes alongside joint laxity. The nerves from brain to bladder are not supported correctly by the muscula/skeletal system, hence the message of needing to wee, is not great, the urge is sudden and can take the child by surprise. also the message the bladder gives to the brain that it is full is distorted, eventually the brain begins to think that the bladder is full even if there is only a little bit of wee in it. (not sure if I am explaining my self very well) There are a couple of solutions, bladder training as above, medication to stop the need to go so oftern (very useful on days out and at school) eventually when the child is bigger the muscles become stronger, and the nerve pathways will be better supported helping brain to bladder messages be more effective. It is a stressfull situation for all, but go back to your GP and try and get some support. wish you well with this one. Harmony x

  13. My daughter was diagnosed with dyspraxia age 5. we had help etc, but nothing since age 10 she is 12 now. Went to see GP becaues of bed wetting (had already seen consultant, but needed another referal) spoke with GP about all DD's other issues, list v long. as I am sure you can immagine. She said that she felt perhaps there was some AS behaviours that were obvious. Made an appt to see consultant, who is quite well known in this field. had an appt within the week, immidiate diagnossis on spending time with daughter. (it probably helped that daughter had her precious bendy straws coming out of every pocket, and became distressesd when she lost 1. Was diagnosed with ADHD as well as AS. RX for ritalin, have found when she takes it the bed wetting is much less. Hooray!!!!, she has since got a certificate for cooking at school. And a certificate for academic improvement. Yippie!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now we know why she has meltdowns, why she talks for hours about ---anything---- why she finds friendships hard to maintain etc etc. So to cut a long story short either you could say her diagnosis took a week, or perhaps it really took 7 years. I so wish I had my marvelous GP all those years ago, I also wish I had made more noise sooner! love Harmony x
