HiFolks,My 12 year old son is due to start his nurture unit on tuesday along with his tutor he is worried stressed about it is ok at momnet but then has has negative thoughts says hes not going we are waiting for dx from CAMHS i think he has aspergers as my 3 older children have traits and grand daighter is been seen by speech and language ...........is there anything i could do to help him or is it something we have to deal with on the day he hates changes in routines and has a big phobia about school this nurture unit is attached to a secondary school but they dont have to enter it if too anxious only have 10 children in it ..........lindy

Hi, Thank you for sharing yourstory as it gives me hoep for my 12 year old son who has had home tutor for the last year and now he is suppose to go to nurture unit in another comprensive school he is very anxious about this we are getting dx soon from CAMHS hope we can getsome help......school is a scary place for him ...........lindy

Hi, Its not just for autistic children ...i think the other children have mainly social issues dont really know as iahve only visited the unit 3 times jsut before summer holidays started so will find out mor when we go.....there is only 10 children in unit and my son doesnt have statem ent yet but is going through the process ......my community mnetal health nurse informed me the staff are fully trained in dealing with children who have problems in all areas.......there is a place for him he will go for an hour with his tutor one day a week as he is only allocated 5 hours with tutor a week.....our tutor is lovley she was arranged through secondary school when we realised it would be hard for him to go to mainstream..........i will getting dx soon soon cant wait....being in limbo is not nice.........lindy

Hi,I have 4 children aged 32,25,21 and 12.....the yougest is being assessed by CAMHS hopefully get dx soon i think he has aspergers his brothers and sister have traits not dx......he does not attend school due to it being too stresssful for him have home tutor supplied by school september we should be attending a nurture unit within the loacal secondary school .....hes already worried about that although weve had a couple of visits ...he has issues with clothing doesnt like lables or wooly things .....he has obsession with computer since he was 2ish ....his tutor said he isclever but finds it hard to rememeber memory problems he hates supermarkets bright lights loud noises food issues he likes one thing for a long time then says he hates it dont give me that again he talks about killing himself during meltdowns critises me at this time says it my fault...can get really angry like yesterday managed to get himto come to a car boot with his nan he walked really close to me and didntlike people bumping into him....said i know i shouldnt have come and ranted .......he is anxious when out and about....he finds it hard to get to sleep when his cousins have came round when i had a barbeque he said i want them to leave now when they started to touch his things i said you cant jsut say leave he didnt understand that.....there is more to say about him but as oyu said it would take a while.............i have tried to diverthis attention when he gets into meltdown soemtimes it works and other times it doesnt and he coudl go on for a while until he comes out of it ....it is distressing and drains me as i have MS and have been in tears over it .......so i know how you feel..............lindy

Hi, Yes i have the same with polyester and wool drives me crazy i have found cotton is good hate supermarkets with loud music our Asda is terrible.....lindy

Hi Your son sounds alot like mine he is 12 has anxiety quite extreme sometimes ....doesnt attend school has home tutor supplied by school as he he couldnt cope with goign to local high school now waiting to see if he can cope with goign to a Nurture unit in another school couple of miles away his hoem tutor will go with him for an hour at first and try and get him used to it but last night he had a meltdown worrying about it.....he is being assessed by CAMHS hoep to get dx soon i think he has aspergers as my 32 year old son has traits of it all his life and my 3 other children 21yrs, 25yrs old.....it is ahrd going soemtimes last night i was crying he didnt really show any compassion no emphathy .......we have a mental health nurse coming every 3 weeks so he can refer back to dr who is assessing him.....but hes fed up with him coming says its spoilign his summer again his obsession is the computer has been since he was in nappies........hes been out of schoolsince a year passed april...special needs teacher at comp should be able to have meeting with you to talk over his needs and see if they have a quiet room he can go to when anxious.......hope you get help ........message me if you want to talk....linda

Hi, I could identify with you and your son i have a son 12 years old in process of getting dx seen by CAMHS....i think he has aspergers as my other 3 older children have traits we had to t ake him out of school last april 2010.....due to anxieties about being there and he calmed down alot since then we registered him with comprenhensive school but he hasnt managed to go so home tutor was sent 2 days a week we still ahve her and shes lovley.....he gets really distressed about the thought of going back to school as well head tutor has now found a nurture centre attached to other local comprenhensive ...we visited it yesterday his obsession is computers so because they ahve approx 20 their he liked that part ....we might visit tomorrow and hopefullly go there for a few hours in september with home tutor..he doesnt like going out much has to eb good reason has meltdowns he used to talk aobut killing himself but not as much now........when i first took him out of school i wrote a letter to LEA explaining the school contacted me for more info then hoem tutor was allocated ....thats been since last september.....i was worried same as you thought i would go to jail etc......very stressful time but now i feel i might be getting somewhere getting dx will help us as a family at the moment in limbo........message me if you want more info.......lindy

Yesterday my sons tutor and i visited a nurture unit attached to local comprehensive school i was impressed and we hopeto gethim a place there at themoment he has tutor twice a week but school we are registeed with dont have the same facilities ......he is 12 years old and i think he has aspergers ....should be getting feedback soon from CAMHS.........so hoping to show him the unit next week he seems excited about it although he gets anxious about new things etc.......

Hi, I totally agree with you on this.... my 12 year old son has home tutor atmoment and his meltdowns are fewer than when he attended school......my eldest son[32] said school was the worst times of his life .......my 4 children are on the spectrum youngest being dx with CAMHS,,,,,......lindy

Hi, I know how you feel my son nearly 12 has problems going to school so he ahs tutor coming to home twice a week he getsreallly anxious have seen CAMHS a couple of times and now waiitng to to see nurse so she can get to know campbell dr not made up his mind yet......he goes offon ranting rages has spoke about killing himself meltdowns...my other 3 older children have aspie traits......it is hard every day.....i only waited 6 months so can understand .....lindy

Hi, I am scottish live in south wales now my 11 year old son is waiting dx he couldnt handle going to school as he got very anxious meltdowns etc so the school supplied a tutor.....my next meeting with CAMHS i will getfeedback and see what they think he has....he shows signs of aspergers as do my other 3 older children .....2 of them live in falkirk......lindy

Hi, My 11 year old son hates writing....my eldestson was the same...........he said it hurts his hands he prefers to type......im sure irts an aspie trait im waitinf doe final meeting with CAMHS...to get dx....he has home tutor suplied by school at the moment as school gives him anxiety.....lindy

I am goign for 2nd appoitment with CAMHS tomorrow letter said 3DIassessment ......my son is 11 years old showingsigns of asperegrs or soemthing on the spectrum.........in the letter they sent atfirst it said my son would get tested with play etc o n his own with them and i would sit in another room and she would finish off family history as we run out of time last appoitment.......yesterday they phoned to say i was to come on my own without my son......dont knowwhy.....can anyone tell me what to expect with the 3di assessment if that is what they are doing now and if you were on your own..........thanks....lindy

Hi, I joined last year due to my 11 year ols son having problems being in school had to take him out last april we registered with secondary school but he gets home tutor at moment.....he finds it hard being around alot of noise lights changes....school is pleased with his work he only gets 5 subjects.....we are being assessed with CAMHS had first interview a few weeks ago waiting for the 3DI assessment.............then we might get dx..........i know how tyou feel......some days are good some not........lindy

Hi, Welcome ... i am quite new late last year i joined....my youngest of 4 is waiting to get seen by CAMHS.....first appoitment next tuesday.....my sons diet is not very good either used to blame myself alhtough i eat good food make most of my meals from scatch but hes not interested....but i had this with my other 3 as well....he is 11 and we have home tutor as going to school has been stressful for him.....he has had some incontinence although he was toilet trained from 3 years...i want him dx so i can explain to family people why we cant come to different outings etc., noise lights too many people.......and also so i can get some guidance .....hope this year brings some results and i know how you feel......pm me if you want to talk....lindy
