  1. Darkshine, London boroughs are quite large so anyone knowing the borough I live in wouldn't know the location of where I live inside that borough. Outside London countries are huge so there would need to be more 'local groups', maybe based on large towns.
  2. Did she tell you that if part of you got caught in the mechanism it would drag you inside - that's what my mother told me!
  3. I have no problem with the older type where the top couple of steps stay flat for long enough to get on but there's a newer type where from the top it just looks like a drop into space and that defeats me - I just can't do it.
  4. I've had adverse reactions to a number of antibiotics but seemed OK with Clarithromycin until the last occasion when I experienced anxiety, insomnia, confusion, disorintation, hallucinations, loss of contact with reality and feeling of loss of identity. It was the most frightening thing I've ever experienced. According to my GP, the problem can arise when the drug is produced by companies other than the original makers and mix different compounds with the antibiotic element to form the tablets.
  5. And not just the roads. London Bridge Station is a no-no during the time when most people going to work need to use it.
  6. I'm unrepentant! (LOL). I'm not interested in sport generally and I'd rather watch paint dry than athletics or swimming so I find the 24/7 concentration on the 2012 Olympics hard to take. Also, for those of us living in London there's been constant travel disruption for weeks leading up to the actual start of the Games and this will last throughout the event. My feeling is that it would have been better to hold it in Manchester where there were already facilities in place rather than in a heavily populated area like London and the south-east.
  7. How wide an area would the 'local group' cover? For example, how would London be divided up?
  8. I'm OK travelling in a car if I sit next to the driver but not in a back seat. There's a limit to how long I can travel in a bus but I'm fine on a train.
  9. I don't like it but I eat it- 90% if I can get it - but only a 'square' a day, since I read some time ago all the ways in which it's beneficial to health.
  10. I loved the earlier series - I wouldn't miss an episode - but I started to go off it when the character "Angie" became pregnant and then gave birth. And now, of course, "Temperance" herself has a baby and I've stopped watching altogether.
  11. I've often wondered about this. I think it's because I can show affection to an animal without the underlying fear that I'm gving too much away. With humans there's always the possibility - likelihood in fact - that they'll take advantage of my feelings. Humans don't necessarily say "If you loved me you'd do/wouldn't do X" but often I'm aware that it's hanging there unsaid. That my affection is a chink in my armour. It's not like that with animals.
  12. I hate it when someone is using it to excuse unexceptable behaviour - either by themselves or by their children but it can be useful in certain situations when trying to explain that it's difficult to do certain things. I don't take vacations because the stress involved is too great. In the past I've had to endure people questioning me about it and just not letting go of the subject. Now I just say I have AS and they shut up.
  13. Hi there, Lola. It's good to meet another fan of "Aspergirls". I felt the same way when I read it - as though a burden had been lifted.
  14. Hi and welcome to the two of you.
  15. Those familiar with the movie "Secretary" think the author 'borrowed' the basic idea from that screenplay. (The man in the movie is named Edward Grey). However - and this is just my opinion - the book is badly written and repetitive.
  16. This is where I stalled. I opted for linking to one online using the URL and joined Gravatar. This told me that if I didn't provide a picture one would be produced for me but nothing appears to have happened. I'm obviously doing something wrong but I don't what.
  17. Hi Alex - and welcome. There are quite a number of adults on here who have been diagnosed with AS, although getting a dx when you are 'mature' isn't easy.
