  1. Hmmm, yeah, I think that's a definite appeal of this; lots of disembodied voices - just voices, just minds. The other stuff just really doesn't matter. It's not that it's of no interest at all - I do wonder about appearance a bit, although not as a preoccupation - but voice and mind predominate, and that's cool.
  2. I have - omnium. I still don't quite get it, though
  3. Not a fascinating topic, I know, but needs must. My son bites his toenails until they bleed and we put plasters on them. Usually any old plaster will do because his socks and shoes keep them in place. In the warmer weather, though, he wears sandals and, on the beach, nothing on his feet. I really am sick of redressing after 20 minutes or even less. It's worth spending out for some half decent plasters. Ideas?
  4. You asked what I've been wondering for ages. I've always liked to assume that we are not all part of some melting-pot experiment , so how it all came about is interesting. Fame at last. I don't need to bother training like crazy for two years to become an Olympic curling medalist now. I kind of assumed the opposite - that it was set up for those with a diagnosis and that us parents are the interlopers.
  5. Sorry, don't want to break the mood, so please do ignore this and continue with the banter.
  6. Dunno about autism, but Lola Labrador definitely has SAD, so this summer hasn't been a great one for her. I wake up in the morning, see the rain and think, 'Wish I had some dog Serotonin for Lola'. She won't do her business in the rain, either.
  7. Hi, Robert I wonder if you're related to my husband somehow? He likes working out his family tree, but we haven't found a Robert Mann on there yet.
  8. Oh yeah, Warrior, that's so cool! Great post.
  9. Sorry, AS Warrior, I seem to have killed the thread
  10. Stuff my dream job for a minute. The best job I ever had was as a cleaner at a leisure centre on the seafront. The huge glass windows meant that I could pretty well always see the sea. The best thing, though, was that while I was there it existed within a time and space bubble in which everyone was pleasant to each other, whatever a person's position within the centre. The centre manager was given no more or less respect than me as a cleaner. As employees we could use the gym whenever we wanted, and I eventually taught swimming (very bizarre, considering I can only just about manage two lengths!). I was there for two years from the age of 19. If I could again work in those conditions well within school hours and not during school holidays, and if I could earn enough on that to enable my husband to work less, then that would probably pretty much be my dream job. Sorry, Warrior, if that doesn't fit your ambitious criteria, but if you think about it, the likelihood of all those conditions ever being met are probably less likely than your rocket idea.
  11. Aah, so you have. Thanks for the reply
  12. Well done on all the quoting! It took me about a month to get the hang of that
  13. The part of the screen which used to be devoted to 'recent topics' has been replaced by birthdays. Have I inadvertently changed my settings, or has this happened to everyone?
  14. Back from my bruv-in-law. We got some sunshine!

  15. Yeah, there's lots of helpful stuff on here
  16. I've had two recurring dreams in life. In the first one I'm wandering around town naked, and everyone's behaving normally, but I have this strong sense that being naked is not the best idea. Thankfully I haven't had this dream for ages. (Why isn't there an unmistakable embarrassed emoticon?) In the other one I have two days in which to catch up on about six months-worth of A-level courses. I haven't had that dream since I started my OU degree, it seems to have neutralised it. My other dreams tend to be random but very detailed.

I forgot to mention the diving. I really care what happens to Tom Daley because I watched a documentary about him and the bond between him and his dad, who died earlier this year after a five year-long battle with brain cancer, was inspiring. I really hope he does ok, because he's a lovely lad who works hard and, as far as I can work out, cares about others.
  18. I dunno, I've sucked frozen peas my whole life, and the dentist reckoned it was a reasonable thing to do. It's no cure all, but it's something to do if you're driven to distraction by the discomfort. My mum used to give me frozen peas and sunflower seeds in lieu of sweets. My kids are fond of frozen peas, too. When I consider it, I suppose it is mildly odd, but I don't think it's a habit we'll be kicking any time soon,
  19. It sounds silly, but when I had infected wisdom teeth and it was driving me crazy, I sucked frozen peas until I got to the dentist. When I told the dentist he approved of the strategy.

Usually end up watching a bit of gymnastics.
  21. It was annoyingly late, which meant getting up for a reenactment day this morning was a chore. There was some incredible vision involved, though, and a sense of community and cooperation, because I think a lot of it was achieved on the back of volunteer service.
  22. Ok, this isn't even about the music, I just find these two mesmerisingly cool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdoFiRWInXg
  23. Can we assume that it was higher than you expected, given your interest in the effect of alcohol on your result? I mean, it wouldn't be that interesting if it was a low result, would it?
